While you do have some point in you censorship talk, i think its important that you use words right, pro ship means you dont send death treats you shipper who ships things you dont like.

Like Kataang or Zutara (most fighting in ships i could think of)

When i use the term “proship content” i am referring to ships that are things like minor x adult, incest, etc. unfortunately the terms of pro-ship/anti-ship tend to have different meanings depending on what fandom space you’re in. I remember being in one fandom where proship means what you described, and another fandom’s proship is when you’re shipping the incest and pedophilia stuff, etc. it honestly depends on who you ask. I think death threats are TERRIBLE, but to say i am a proshipper is like saying sunsets aren’t beautiful. i am not familiar with the ships kataang or zutara (i dont feel like searching them up i’m sorry)

and as far as the slenderman murder thing goes, i am going to answer according to what i remember, so if i say something wrong please correct me. (And i am assuming you’re referring to the case involving morgan geyser from 2014)

If slenderman is just a horror game, nothing wrong with that. I think it was based off fanon? (and a large amount of mental confusion) that would have influenced what she did. Though, i dont know much about the slenderman fandom and last i looked into the case was at least a year ago, so i don’t feel educated enough to talk about it too much, so forgive me if what i said was wrong. Though mind you, morgan had absolutely no business attempting murder. She is the one who should be held accountable.

i am very sorry that the bible scared you as a kid, i know religious trauma is tough, so i very much apologize that that has happened to you. i feel like i should have been more clear in my post that when certain types of heavy subjects are in media, it is different when it’s against things like pedophilia and incest.And the only way to learn about heavy themes is If those sort of topics are brought up.

Its not a matter of “this contains evil things, we need to ban this immediately “. It is solely based off context and what message a piece of media brings.

In the context of the bible, it is heavily against things like sa, pedophilia, murder, things of that nature. It is FAR different to read a book which tells you how wrong pedophilia is than to seek out content of an adult and a child kissing.

(Also i am very sorry but i just feel like i need to add, imo the bible is far from fiction, there is actually a lot of archaeological evidence of stories from the bible being real, i highly suggest looking into it bc its really interesting actually 👀)

Something i wished more people talked about on the topic of pro-shipping is when people say that pro-ship material is wrong, it’s not just the fact that “oh what if a kid sees this” but more so the fact that pro-ship material, does in fact, influence you no matter your age.

The younger you are, the more something will influence you, yes. but even if you’re 60, You WILL get desensitized to it. And when i say “desensitized” i don’t mean seeing fanart of an a fictional minor shipped with a fictional adult and not caring at all. I mean you start to hear of real life scenarios of incest or pedophilia and start to care less, or think, “oh maybe it’s not that bad.” And the worst part is: most of the time, you change without even realizing.

I think it is a slippery slope to say that someone is automatically going to become a pedophile when someone seeks out pro-ship content, but it is very much real that pro-ship content WILL make you numb to real life scenarios that happen to real people, and things that might happen to yourself.

And this isn’t just with pro-ship content either. The same goes for things like gore. Now videos of someone getting murdered and minor x adult fanart from a tv show are VASTLY different, but just hear me out on this. Both types of media ARE addictive. They not only change how you think in terms of morality, but affect you mentally as well. There ARE cases where someone who watches gore ends up committing terrible acts, and same goes for pro-ship content. This does NOT happen to everybody, but you genuinely never know, because every person is different.

Someone who is addicted to drugs didn’t take their first dose wanting to be controlled by substances for the rest of their life, they took that first dose thinking nothing bad will come out of it, and the same happens when you seek out pro-ship content. I need to clarify that censorship is a HORRIBLE thing. But it is very harmful to call every “anti-shipper” you see on your dash a fascist. Abuse of that word causes it to lose its meaning, the same way terms like narcissist and delusional has lost their meaning. It is not fascism to say that you shouldn’t look at fictional CSAM media, because it makes you desensitized to what happens in real life.

anyways my point is, fiction very much DOES affect reality. This is what propaganda, fables, cautionary tales, and literal grooming has been doing since forever.

Also,side note: something that really rubs me the wrong way is when people automatically call proshippers “irredeemable”. I am NOT at all talking about people who interact with irl CSAM or people who sa in general. That type of “human” needs to be punished to the utmost extent. I am talking about people who are not educated, and fall into the trap of desensitization and realize they NEED to change and do take steps to change. Accountability is still very much in order, but if someone finally wakes up and realizes “oh my gosh what am i doing?!?”, changes and makes up for past actions (like, for instance, advocating against what they used to stand for, and deleting the media they once created), it needs realized that someone is NOT defined by their past wrongdoings anymore, though no one is obligated to interact with anyone, and it doesn’t change what they did.

Also any proshippers watching this, i doubt you’re shaking in your boots from this post, but as some “etiquette” please take more actions to make sure your content doesnt reach kids, because yeah they are way more likely to be influenced, and that sort of content is still VERY accessible to minors.

Things like putting a mature content label on a post, proper tagging, and making sure your posts cant be found from a very simple google image search would be great. As someone who is a minor, i am tired of getting jump scared and seeing something my eyes shouldn’t see because someone didn’t tag their post properly, or didn’t put a mature content label on their post.
