i had a dream that before a hl2vrai stream wayne was doing a kinda 'waiting for everyone to get ready' thing where he had one of those spinning wheel roulette things but every time hed spin itd just display words like "STOMACH" "BODY" "HARMONIUM" "TRIANGULAR" "SKIN" or whatever in an orange font while a deep voice read them out. he got the word "STOMACH" many times. then he got eaten by his computer and the stream started as if nothing happened.

AWESOME COOL GORDON @ STAIN V. BENREY ANALYSIS

ive seen people talk a lot about how stain is the antithesis of benrey and i totally agree with that. ive seen people say how stain lets himself be open to love and friends and kindness and benrey shuts himself away and thats the main difference which is fire but also

i think a main reason theyre different and maybe one of The reasons why gordon likes stain so much is kind of the difference in how they respond to being controlled??

like okay. a lot of the reason gordon is so freaked out in hl1vr is due to the fact that the npcs are Not Following The Protocol. they brush off everything gordon says and do not act like the standard half life scientists. and i feel like gordon improves on this in some ways towards the end but he kind of keeps this very specific undertone of constantly wanting to be the titular protagonist and leader of the science team even if he tries to not make that be visible

which is why i feel like gordon hates benrey the most. despite benrey being a jerk to him in general, one of the consistent thinks benrey does is break the game and mess with the overall plot. he constantly goes against what gordon wants to do by talking to military men, being behind doors he shouldnt, entering cutscenes hes not supposed to and screwing with the game in general. gordon is very much so a control freak and i feel like benrey changing what Should happen to what he wants to do fucks with gordon on a metaphysical level. he doesnt do what he wants him to. hence why he has such a big resentment towards him

stain on the other hand.......... he is accepting and kind and So nice but a lot of the time he also listens. he leaves with gordon. gordon brings him along, actually INVITES him, instead of being asserted by benrey that he has to be watched over. he tries to listen to gordons lessons the best he can, he gets close to gordon, he doesnt contradict gordon. the closest he gets to going against him is when gordon ponders throwing a fucking BRICK at him 😭😭😭 he acts like a normal person, he screams when attacked, dies for longer periods of time than the others- he is not above the game like benrey is. he is a damsel in distress gordon needs to save and be the hero for, and therefore gordon loves stain because of it. he can show stain the things he wants to show stain. he can teach him. he gets to play the protagonist for a person, like a video game should be. he has the control here. yk????

i do not think gordon thinks this consciously, AND I DO NOT THINK GORDON IS EVIL. I DO NOT THINK HE SUCKS AND IS BAD HE JUST. he very obviously has some problems he is projecting onto stain and i think the comparisons of the stainrey foils vs gordon. is pretty freaking cool. like. gordon is pretty averse to telling his friends in hl1vr that theyre ais in a video game. and even now, he subconsciously favors people who act more like npcs yk. idk. control freak gordon core. video games go hard

as someone accepting of benrey being long gone I think there's a lot of subtle parallel between stain and benrey, I can't explain it, but one thing in particular that sticks out to me is how stain and Gordon interact. in hl1vrai Gordon and benrey would fight all the time, while Gordon got along more with coomer and Tommy (I can't really say he got along with everyone else but he kind of did more than he did with benrey) meanwhile he gets along more with stain but not at much as everyone else besides father griggalicious. something in me deep down tells me that stain is experiencing what benrey never got to experience and it will change him, but at some point something will happen and stain will be confused and have a moment with Gordon and it's gonna be benrey related. im not in denial of benrey being gone. I simply acknowledge buildup of something being there.
