The sun is going down

And as I watch the world draped in golden light

I feel something ending as well

I am no longer the same

As when it rose this morning

The sun is going down

And the leaves seem to glow

With a beauty I had almost forgotten

And the air tastes sweeter than it did yesterday

Or perhaps the day before

The sun is going down

I can no longer see it shine between the trees

And I cannot keep it shining any longer

Nor stop it from becoming dark

Like a childhood long passed

The sun is going down

And I may weep at its loss of light

But it will rise again soon

Perhaps not the same it did today

But beautiful all the same

The sun is going down

And I may never be the person I was in its light today

But it will glow again tomorrow

And the person that basks in its light will feel what I do now

And the child that once felt so much in it’s presence will never know what they have

The sun is going down

And isn’t it so beautiful

And wasn’t it fun all that time ago

But tomorrow always comes

And I will never forget the beauty of yesterday

On the deck of a boat

The subtle rocking feels like a heartbeat

The world feels alive

Surrounding

Looking up to the sky

There’s more stars than usual

I wonder if, far away

There’s life too

I wonder if they’re watching with me

Feeling alone like me

Gazing at our sun as I look at theirs

It’s so easy to feel alone

Despite being surrounded by all this life

I hope when they look to the sky

They feel a little less alone

I hope

They can feel me looking back

That would be enough

We didn’t need to be extraordinary

I could make jokes, about how I love you to the moon and back

My moonshine

But I really do mean it

I would’ve been happy, would’ve kept loving you

I don’t dream of the brilliant things we could do

I dream of the mundane

I want to accidentally get one of your socks in my laundry

You to grab my jacket instead of yours in a rush

I don’t really dream of all those things I told you

I would’ve been content, microwaving leftovers late at night

When we both can’t sleep

Singing along to the radio on an evening drive

Meeting your family, friends, going on little trips

It wasn’t about the amazing things

My moonbeam

I didn’t want to be with you because of the things we could do in so little time

I wanted to be with you because it was you

My stars, my sun, my moon

But just like you, the bright, beautiful thing in the dark

So far away

My moonlight

While I can still see it for a few more quiet hours

And doesn’t it look extraordinary tonight?
