My first self reblog here we go.
You may be wondering what realisations Subaru may have had in this scenario, well, first off I need to detail to you the situation.
His blood is in her teeth, under her nails, trickling down the side of his flushed face from the nose she just broke; her right fist still raised for the next punch.
He’s lying on his back, she’s sitting almost on his chest with an arm under her leg and another being white-knuckled in her left hand.
Despite the position, despite how badly he’s been losing for the past hour, the look on his face is nowhere near defeat, near acceptance. It’s the same damned look he’s had in his eyes every time the two of them are alone. The one that lets her know the next blow is going to cause another break. The one that lets her realise she’s enjoying this perhaps a little too much.
No more than a centimetre.
But that’s not what Vincent was looking at, was he?
The moments distraction all too evident in her eyes is all the opening he needs to flip their position.
It lands awkwardly. He isn’t a trained combatant, he’s never needed to be. But it doesn’t matter because it works. Subaru is now the one who’s pinned, the difference being that both her wrists are being held in grips far gentler than the one she was using, and it is perhaps the first time she hasn’t minded losing in a long time. To the point where this can barely be called a loss.
His face is hanging above her’s and the sweat is mixing with the blood as it drips down his face to his chin and falls onto her below.
Both of them are panting. Both of them can feel it.
The moment was forever and not long enough. If Emilia is the sunlight glinting off the morning fresh winter snow, then in this moment Vincent is the evening firelight dancing off the walls and oh how he burns to the touch.
As the hot breath mixes with the hot air Vincent wrenches himself off of her and to the side.
It’s a stumbling few steps to the table Subaru had placed the water on.
She hears it. She hears a glass being poured, then another.
Subaru had been deeply aware for some time now that she had been attracted to men, if not scared to say it out loud.
But it was almost humiliating to realise that this was the culmination of how she had been acting the past few weeks, if not helped along by some criminal who had been caught within ten minutes of the day’s inciting incident.
The worst part though, was realising that the same place that her behaviour towards Vincent, towards Abel, had come from- was the same place that her teasing of Otto and her snarking at Julius had come from.
After several shuddering breaths, Subaru is calm enough to let her head drop to the side.
Vincent is resting his body weight on the table, his hand still around his empty glass. An infuriatingly soft smile on his face that vanishes into an even more infuriating grin as he sets the glass down with a tink.
The sound rang in her ears and it was a command for her to get up and start again.
The only way said command could have been more explicit would be if he yelled it right into her ear. But that would have just made her yell at him back. The tink had her swallow so hard that her mouth dried to sandpaper.
While standing up was unsteady, Subaru took pride in how she didn’t wobble once past that.
She took the second glass that Vincent had poured and dismays when the water washes out the taste of the blood, then “dismays” when she realises she was dismaying.
As soon as she finishes drinking, Subaru is going to tackle him to the floor again and maybe she might let him win intentionally next time.
FOR COMPLETELY NORMAL REASONS OF COURSE!
Okay yeah that’s the end of this self reblog. Hope you enjoyed.
