personal interpretation of THE RAVEN QUEEN as seen in critical role; drawing inspiration directly from exu: calamity, other pieces of canon media, & personal headcanon; as ascended by MONARCH.
RAVENSMANTLE is a semi-selective, heavily headcanon based portrayal of the raven queen from various critical role medias; based heavily in period before the age of arcanum, when the matron was still a mortal woman, as well as in the age of divergence, post calamity & into the present day; as adored & ascended by monarch (any/all; twenty-one).

@firepassed asked: โ How did suffering become so endless? โ
it's a quiet thing, her laugh. the sound of it isn't quite malicious, but it's certainly not very kind either - because, well, no one and least of all her ever claimed that she was kind. death and fate were not kind concepts, not even to a champion's beloved. the matron's voice seems to come from both nowhere and everywhere all at once, quiet and steady: " that is where you are mistaken, tempest. everything ends eventually. "
thinks too hard about the age of arcanum and about how there was a moment where the raven queen looked her spouse in the eyes for the last and final time as they were killed in the process of helping her ascend to her place in the heavens. i just have so many questions about that. about all of it. was their soul the first one she collected? were they the first occupant of her house of mirrors? did she cry even as she was getting the very thing she had worked so hard to achieve because they weren't there to see it through with her? is that why she erased all the notes on the ritual? was it so that no one else would have to feel the same sort of agony that she felt to get to the place she got? and what about her friend / maybe lover, the previous god of death? do you think there was this sense of grief about her as she rent their name and likeness from every temple in the material plane and beyond? did she realize what the consequences of her own actions would be? did she realize and just not care? and what about her daughter? what happened to her daughter? we know what happened to her daughter; she caused the supposed end of the world. but would she have done that had her mother not left her to wipe a god's name (and her own name) from existence? do you think the matron was lonely? do you think she was lonely and that's why she had champions? maybe all her champions were just as lonely and despreret as she was? don't you just wonder?

โ The problemโs not the distance; itโs what lies in between. โ
โ My kingdom is waiting. โ
โ So Captain, whatโs the plan? โ
โ Look! There, in the distance. I see an island. โ
โ I see a light that faintly glows. โ

โ You are far too nice. โ
โ I've got no mercy left to give. โ
โ The line between naรฏvetรฉ and hopefulness is almost invisible. โ

โ What have you done? โ
โ Any last words? โ
โ There's only so much left we can endure. โ
โ I'm not a player, I'm a puppeteer. โ
โ I canโt sleep now knowing everything we've done. โ
โ I must say what a brilliant speech you gave. โ
โ I don't know who you are nor why you're here. โ
โ One wrong move, then you're done for. โ
โ All I hear are screams, every time I dare to close my eyes. โ
โ I no longer dream, only nightmares of those who've died. โ
โ I am the prophet with the answers you seek. โ
โ I see a man who gets to make it home alive, but it's no longer you. โ

the Problem TM with deciding to be feral about a character who is literally a deity that just kind of exists in the background of everything always in that i don't quite know how to go about plotting for her......
Normalize sending good anons to blogs. Ask about headcanons. Throw little what if scenarios at them. Send them responses from characters in their canon they don't normally get to interact with!
being someone who is not at all caught up with critical role (point and laugh at the guy who is only like half-way finished with campaign one), i love watching everyone freak out about stuff i will not get to for a million years. it's free entertainment!
RECOVERING AFTER THE BIG BATTLE PROMPTS
* ย assorted dialogue for conversations after you just went through absolute hell to protect something, get somewhere, or fight your way through hordes of bad guys, adjust as necessary
how are you holding up after that?
they knew we were coming.
i didn't think we were going to survive that.
can you stand? do you need me to help?
take some deep breaths. it's over.
i need a headcount!
there was nothing we could do to stop them.
i've never seen weapons like that before.
don't you dare close your eyes. stay awake for me.
let me go grab you something to drink.
i'm sorry. they didn't make it.
get me a medic.
we won't survive another battle like that.
we should have been more prepared.
the odds were stacked against us.
sound off! who's not dead?
if you're bleeding, tell me now.
don't bullshit me. you're limping. when did you start limping?
just a few more steps and we can rest.
they knew we were coming.
i'm going back for them. you stay here.
there's nothing else we can do to help them.
our world is lost.
i saw you out there, fighting for your life.
i'm sorry i couldn't be there to help you fight them off.
given what i just saw out there, i think your training is complete.
you saved my life.
they were never going to get past you.
we all need time to rest after that.
maybe we should set up camp, take turns keeping watch.
we did it! it's over!
next time, we won't be so lucky.
have you seen [name]? did they make it out?
they were stronger than we expected.
we have to prepare for the second wave.
there's no time to run.
get me the healer.
just lay back down, and i'll take care of you.
you're not going to die, not under my watch.
you showed up the second i needed you, like you heard me.
i don't think i can face a battle like that again.
we got lucky, but the next time they attack, they'll be ready for us.
we cut down their numbers, but they're still strong.
there must be something we can do.
i thought you said you weren't injured!
think you're going to have to go on without me.
i wasn't prepared for any of that.
i need more training.
we can't face that kind of firepower alone.
how long until they send reinforcements?
they've got us trapped here. it's only a matter of time until they come back to finish the job.
