unfortunate that the united states has been very successful at controlling narratives around word war 2 and positioning itself as the polar opposite of nazism and the main force fighting fascism when america was complicit in the holocaust. not only did american press report positively about hitler and the nazi party up until the end of the 30′s, some publications cooperated with nazi germany, american companies had investments and connections to nazi germany that they maintained until american involvement in the war, and companies like ibm in particular gave nazis the technology necessary to make the holocaust possible in the first place. some company owners themselves had nazi sympathies like henry ford and others just saw it as a business opportunity. the us denied entry to european jewish refugees and deported jewish refugees back to germany, many senators and other government officials during the 1930s openly supported nazism and worked to prevent the us from taking a side in ww2, and during the 30s large pro nazi rallies were held across the us. american eugenics movement, american race laws and american genocide set the model for the holocaust and there shouldnt be any discussion of nazism and the holocaust without also discussing the extent of american complicity in it.

Hi I have an undergrad psych degree! I also have ADHD! In my motherfucking TEXTBOOK, the authors said, “Research describes ADHD as a neurodevelopmental disorder in the same vein as Autism. We are putting the (miniscule) section on ADHD in the same chapter as ODD, though, because we believe really these disorders both boil down to ✨️ people not doing what we tell them to because they are lazy✨️”

So my actual TEXTBOOK admitted that it was biased and teaching these disorders based on opinion and not up to date research. And, as described above, the section on ODD was basically just, “these are bad kids. We will not look into why or how or what comorbidities exist and we will also not be exploring the possibility of ODD really being a manifestation of trauma/undiagnosed adhd/autism/pathological demand avoidance/persistent drive for autonomy. We will however be mostly focusing on how annoying these kids are to their parents and teachers ✨️”

It’s fucking crazy. “Yeah we know lots of people with autism struggle to follow demands. They may either ignore/not register demands or have meltdowns when demands are placed. They may engage in physical aggression, verbal aggression, and property desctruction when directed to complete tasks or be exposed to uncomfortable sensory input. They may need to know the why behind demands and consequently argue with authority figures. They may be easily upset by sensory input or social interactions and have emotional outbursts when pushed beyond their limits. We need more Eridians that are anti-Grace.

Eridian scientists who are concerned about foreign microbes contaminating the planet in ways no one is prepared for (which Grace of course is very knowledgeable and passionate in his counterarguments over because that's his field of study), Eridian scientists swearing a vendetta against him because his knowledge of relativity, space, radiation, technology, light photons and his general existence threaten their entire lifes work.

Eridian citizens who generally don't trust him due to his appearance and predatory nature (Eridians are predators but they literally evolved eusocial behaviors to protect each other from larger apex predators) and hide their children from him when he walks by. Eridian citizens who think his movements and sounds are uncomfortable and disruptive and constantly chastize him for banging around in a near pitch black room or encourage him to stop speaking.

Eridian politicians who build entire campaigns about fearmongering against the possibility that their neighbors beyond the stars may at some point decide to have hostile intentions and Grace is just an outlier or that his motives aren't certain. Eridian politicians who see him only as a pawn to win over the favor of their constituents so they can push harmful agendas and are constantly trying to get Grace to endorse them. (fuck it i might make an oc of this).

Eridian business owners who actually benifited from the public's concern over the dimming sunlight that are now hurting because nobody's buying their hinky protective products or insurance anymore and they blame Grace for their company's bankruptcy. Eridian beauty industries being threatened because Grace physically (and vocally) challenges modern beauty standards as a willowy flesh bag being considered attractive for his species and the youth has taken up a lot of counter culture practices because of it.

Eridian parents who are uncomfortable with the idea of an alien species putting ideas in their pebble's heads and make Grace's life a living hell every PTA meeting with angry picket signs and hateful slogans. Eridan citizens who live in the nearby town who constantly slap zoning and HOA notories on the outside of his dome because they think it's an ugly earsore.

Obviously it doesn't have to be a one to one comparison to how humans function, all I'm saying is that Eridians are a complex social sapient species and they wouldn't all worship his feet just because he did them a favor.

Condescending Eridians who (figuratively) nod and smile when Savior Rocky talks about how awesome "Savior" Grace is because how sad, so much solitude made Savior Rocky so terribly lonely that when he found a ship with resources he could use to save Erid all by himself he up and adopted the leaky space blob he found on board as a mascot. Obviously "Savior" Grace is a kind of talking support animal and all the attention lavished on keeping him comfortable and enriching his enclosure is really for Savior Rocky's sake.

I don't think Eridians would have a hard time grasping the concept that Grace is a sentient feeling being on par with their own species, but I also think there are individuals would would jump through hoops to deny him personhood.

The first time Grace is brought to a thrum for an important aerospace committee meeting they discuss further preliminaries for keeping the astropage in check, cultivation of teromeba populations, furthering space exploration for other potential microbial threats etc and he is expected to only answer questions briefly when spoken to. At first he thinks that they're encouraging brevity from him because translation can be tedious work that they don't necessarily have time or equipment for, but it becomes glaringly obvious that some of the individuals do not respect his weigh-in on the subject because he's not an aerospace scientist, cannot speak their language meaningfully and cannot join a thrum. One of them says "yes, yes, you helped save the planet with your little molecular biology degree or whatever (they don't know that he's the best in his field) but we demand silence from you. Your noises offend the room's resonance."

Then it occurs to Grace that they are not talking to him like he's a child, rather they don't view him with the same level of base respect as them because he has a singular brain and cannot join a hive mind. He realizes that when Rocky calls him stupid he's being playful, but when other Eridians do they mean it.

For lack of a better word, to some Eridians he's a nonperson. Sentient,yes. Deserving of voice and rights, no.

He goes ballistic and gets dragged out of comittee for viciously tearing into their published journal for not even "factoring in theorum as primative as curved spacetime when tracking teromeba breeding patterns" and encourages them to "keep throwing mud agianst the wall and maybe in 70 years they'll find where the other half of the teromeba bloom went" while toppling the podium shouting and directly insulting the chairperson and calling them "a pompous astrophysics larping gasbag" to their face btw.
