Heather Heyer’s mom gives heartbreaking yet stirring funeral speech
“Find what’s wrong. Don’t ignore it, don’t look the other way, you make a point to look at it and say to yourself, ‘What can I do to make a difference?’ And that’s how you’re going to make my child’s death worthwhile. I’d rather have my child, but by golly, if I gotta give her up, we’re going to make it count.”
August 14 2017 - Protesters in Durham, North Carolina decide to take matters into their own hands and take down a confederate statue.
The statue represented a soldier who fought in the Civil War and an inscription on the front read “The Confederate States of America.”
One organizer of the protest told WNCN that toppling the statue was in response to the violence at a white supremacist rally in Charlottesville, Va. this weekend.“It needs to be removed,” organizer Loan Tran told the news station. “These Confederate statues in Durham, in North Carolina, all across the country.” [video]
god bless
I absolutely agree that the statues should be taken down, however they should be removed and kept intact in a warehouse or something. The civil war forever changed the American way of life. Federal law now outweighs state law, it was basically the birth of modern medicine, it lead to mass production of canned food in the US, for the first time there were different shaped L and R shoes, and standardized clothes sizes. That's besides the major things like the emancipation of slaves, the 13th,14th, and 15th Amendments. However, for better or worse it is part of our history and should not be destroyed. We can take some ideas from the way Germany has worked with their history.
The confederate flag should be banned (including making Mississippi redesign their flag) for all state, local and federal government sites (you can't prevent people from carrying it if they wish, due to free speech (and anyway it makes it easier to identify and avoid racists)). Statues should be removed but preserved in storage, potentially for a museum recognizing our history but not glorifying it. And most importantly we need to honor those dead on both sides, because despite the hate, rhetoric and atrocities committed by their leaders, the average confederate soldier was just a farm boy, drafted to fight, kill and likely die to maintain the wealth and privilege of the plantation owners.
TL;DR: We can remove the statues without destroying them, and honor the dead without glorifying the actions of their leaders.

12 or under. Think about it.
Even with this, men will still say that most women find it innocent and like the ‘compliments’
Award-winning actor Mahershala Ali is the face of the latest issue of GQ magazine. And trailblazing model Halima Aden graces the cover of Allure’s July 2017 issue.
This is a truly magical and historical moment, especially as the study shows more Americans view Islam more negatively than every other major world religion this year. Fear-driven attitudes have culminated in wildly inaccurate perceptions of the U.S. Muslim population. This situation can lead to awful consequences. There are already a few cases of hate crimes targeting Muslims and we need to do something to prevent any more aggression. These covers will probably help the situation.
