I haven't managed a group photo yet, because... wrangling 35 pokemon in front of a camera is a legendary feat, but here's a helpful infographic I made for anyone interested! They're organized in order caught (though my dunsparce are actually much more spread out over the last 18 years) and the age range I was when I caught them. Also their age and the age I caught them at.

Most pokemon I retire from battle training at age 15 for their health, unless battle is necessary for that pokemon's health and happiness. A pokemon is retired earlier if they don't enjoy battling - a battle's only fun if trainer and pokemon are both happy!

Hey! My moms finally letting me get a pokemon of my own, so i was wondering what the best dark or ice type would be for someone new to taking care of one? Battle potential doesn’t particularly matter to me, i just want a friend :3

Im also concerned about size, because we dotn have a huge house and me and my sister share a room, so i cant have a big pokemon

Well, congratulations on gettin' for first 'mon! Dark and Ice types can be a bit tricky to work with, but despite the rumors goin' around about Dark types, some of 'em can be very beginner-friendly!

For Dark Types, there are a few that are small and tame 'nough to be pets. Alolan Meowths and Rattatas are an option, but you need to have a strong personality to keep 'em in check or else they can become a bit spoiled or destructive. If you're lookin' for something a bit more chill, I'd say you should learn about Inkays! They are small, not really conflictive and can be pretty social if you end up with more 'mons in the future.

As for the Ice Types, they are a bit more needy in terms of the environment and husbandry they need. Some of 'em, like Smoochum and Sneasel can live in warmer climates, but most of 'em don't; and that's something to keep in mind if you live in places like Hoenn or plan to travel 'round. Spheals are great buddies, very cuddly and social (and, bit loud), and Alolan Vulpies are very popular for a reason!

And lastly, this is very common, but there's also Eevee! They're picked very frequently as a first-time 'mon, and you can evolve it into Umbreon or Glaceon eventually once you get to know it better!

If you're getting a dark type, know that their personalities and body language can be a bit different from a lot of other pokemon. Especially cave dwellers, which I tend to have more personal experience with (my sableye Arkose in particular takes a lot of attention to read emotionally). If you need something a bit more classically easy to read, dark type canine pokemon like Houndour can be a good start, though research as always is essential first!

Dunsparce isn't a dark type, but as dark-cave dwellers they share some habits and make for a good starter 'mon if you're a patient person! They can be skittish before they get to know you, but if you have a knack for adapting to a pokemon's body language they'll be a friend for life.

Having lived in the arctic, you'd think I'd have more advice to give on ice types, but I've never actually raised one myself in my memory. I do concur with the advice to be aware that keeping an ice type means potentially sacrificing some areas of travel!

Hi Charlie!

I have a friend who works in environmental management, and she raises bug pokemon in a hatchery for various purposes. Last week, one of her Nincada left behind a shell when it evolved, and now the "Shedinja" (I honestly thought they were a myth) is just hovering ominously in her hatchery. It makes me so anxious and I want to visit her again but I'm kinda scared...is it true that looking at their back is dangerous?

thankfully, all of the talk of shedinja stealing souls is urban legend. note how the pokedex talks about them- when it brings up the rumor about staring into a shedinja's back, it always does mentions that this is a widespread belief rather than fact. you can look inside them all you want...not thay there's much in there!

the main concern with being around a shedinja is that they're so fragile. you really shouldn't touch them too much. other than that, they can be a little unswettling- my sibling's shedinja, erik, likes to float behind them and stare ominously- but youre not going to be in any danger.

Can confirm, my shedinja Carapace seems to enjoy floating ominously and staring at me for no particular reason except to see if I'll react, but they're not any more dangerous to be around than any other 'mon.

It's been about eight months since I reached a point where I could no longer handle the long darkness and remote claustrophobia of the north, but i've found myself settling down in a more permanent place. More on that later, but expect more pokeblogging now that I'm settled! We'll see how I enjoy city life for a while.

If you wish to anger Pokemon researchers, ask them if the factors that cause Shellder to take its new shape upon biting a Slowpoke's tail are part of the Slowpoke, or the Shellder.

The answer is that no one knows. It is not an evolution, but a transformation, and it makes no goddamn sense.

It is a good reminder for scientists to keep their humility.

Is the Pokédex ACTUALLY a good source of information or not cause some of it seems sketchy from what I’ve seen, like with Gardevior apparently making blackholes or Magcargo’s extreme body temperature

The Pokedex is a source of good enough information.

It collects a great deal of data and information which is compiled and reported to professors. But the data the professors receive is, quite frankly, irrelevant to most trainers. You do not need to know the exact fat distribution on a Tepig, nor the average fur density of an Oshawott.

The information the Pokedex displays for Trainers is generally what is considered "good enough". A Gardevoir uses its psychic powers to compress space into a form of a gravity well. You do not need to know the physics behind it, and explaining what a gravity well is would hardly be relevant. So, "black hole" is used as shorthand. A Magcargo's body temperature can reach incredible extremes for short times. It usually will not, and the exact number is rounded for ease of use by Trainers.

It's worth noting that the majority of new trainers learning about Pokémon for the first time are around 10 or sometimes even younger, so I imagine the Pokedex is worded for a child's understanding moreso than an adult who has a more in-depth education on these things

So, a few weeks back, I visited Snowpoint, and I did a little exploring. I got lost, unfortunately, wound up at Lake Acuity, and then I saw a huge Gyarados with red eyes...? I don't know if that's normal, but I ran away as fast as I fucking could and found the city again. Asking about it now because I'm genuinely curious, what was that Gyarados?

He's our local cryptid! Last time I heard they were making a documentary 'bout it, but it's been `pretty hard to get on camera. Some even say it might be so old that it might be from Hisuian times, but that's more speculation than anything

has any trainer asked to have your old battle pokemon?? and if yes what do you do to stop them because some of them keep bothering me to give up my old battle pokemon and when i say no they keep insisting. I'm soooo close to just punting them (in battle ofc but id rather not since it feels like they're winning in a way and frankly i don't feel like battling brats) and they're not even little kids they're fully grown teenagers!!! sorry for the vent but this has been happening for a month and nobody in town seem to help

People have not asked specifically 'bout that, no, but that's extremely rude. Your 'mons belong to you as their trainer, and if someone thinks that they can just... ask for them and have them, they're just... Stupid?

Unfortunately, unless they try to actively steal 'em, there ain't much the Rangers can do 'bout a bunch of annoying teens. I'm with you and I wouldn't battle 'em either; but your best options here are to threaten to call the Rangers or actually get in contact with their parents, professor or whoever they actually respect, to see if they can knock some sense into 'em.
