roxy-lopez:
“In practice, I’m in the same spot as you. In theory, I can’t see myself really… being poly. Mad respect for people who are, but I just don’t think it’s for me. I’ve got an open mind though, so who really knows?” Roxy happily chomped down on the rest of her sandwich while Rayne answered her, then took a long drink of her coffee to wash it down. “D’you have any idea what you wanna be?”
She nodded her head in understanding, feeling kind of the same way when it came to being poly but also completely unsure. She figured that she needed some sort of experience before completely ruling it out. “Not a clue.” She answered honestly with a shake of her head and an awkward laugh. Most questions asking her about her plans for after school made her super uncomfortable, if only for the fact that she didn’t know. “What about you?”
roxy-lopez:
“So are you poly too?” Roxy asked, not really one for tact though she couldn’t think of an issue with asking anyway besides it maybe being a bit too personal. “Yeah. Unfortunately, there’s always people like that and there probably always will be. At least until all white straight cis dudes are wiped out. I’m a student too! I’m working on a Psych degree though.”
“I mean...not so far as I know. But like I’ve never really found anyone that I’ve been attracted to beyond the superficial. So who knows?” Rayne said with a shrug of her shoulders, biting down on her bottom lip. “What about you? How do you identify?” She questioned, figuring that it couldn’t hurt to ask considering Roxy had asked first. “That’s true. Unfortunately, I feel like we’re far from that point yet. Psych, huh? That’s awesome. I’ve taken a couple Psych classes as electives.”

roxy-lopez:
The mention of three mothers didn’t go over Roxy’s head and she didn’t hesitate to point it out. “You’ve got three moms? That’s fucking badass. I mean, I know polyamory is looked at at least a lil better these days, so I guess it never occurred to me that people had the balls to do that back then,” she admitted. Waving off the thank you, Roxy took a generous bite of her half of the sandwich and brought her legs up to rest her feet up on the section of the picnic table that Rayne was sitting on. “So what do you do, Rayne?”
Rayne smiled at Roxy’s reaction to finding out that she had three mothers, nodding her head slightly. “They’re pretty cool. They can be kinda embarrassing but I got super lucky with them.” Rayne explained, taking a bite of the sandwich and humming in content. “Yeah, being poly is definitely not as taboo but there are still annoying people that think it’s wrong or whatever. Frustrating.” She shook her head and then took another bite before answering the question. “I’m in my first year of school actually. I’m getting a degree in Gender Studies. How about you?”
roxy-lopez:
The corner of Roxy’s mouth quirked up in a self-satisfied smile at the compliment. “Really? As far as I know, my mom’s not allergic to anything and, I mean… I’m pretty sure I’m not either. I guess I’m pretty lucky.” It didn’t take long to reach the park and once there, Roxy picked out the closet picnic table and took a seat on one side. After a bit of wrestling with the plastic bag, she slid her sandwich back out, unwrapped it, and handed one half over to Rayne.
“As far as I know I’m not allergic to anything. But yeah, my ma’s super allergic so mom and momma were pretty careful to only let us have peanut butter when they knew it was safe for ma.” Some people still insulted her for the fact that she had three mothers, but it was never something that she’d let bother her. If people couldn’t understand that love was love and that their relationship was just as valid as any other relationship, she didn’t need them in her life. She walked contently towards the park with Roxy, enjoying the sunshine and the company of the girl, even as they didn’t speak too too much. She claimed the other side of the picnic table, taking the half of the sandwich with a smile and a thank you.
roxy-lopez:
“I would’ve if it had been me. I just didn’t wanna put a really fucking cute stranger in that position.” The corner of her mouth quirked up when Rayne agreed to split her sandwich with her, gesturing for Rayne to follow her. “There’s a park nearby. We can chill at one of the picnic tablets. How does that sound? I eat, like… nothing besides PB&J for lunch every day. It’s so fucking good.”
She looked down with a blush at the insinuation that she was apparently ‘really fucking cute’ and cleared her throat, glancing back up at Roxy with a smile. “I don’t think I would’ve minded coming from a crazy beautiful girl that thought I was really fucking cute.” She managed to say before looking away with a bite to her bottom lip. “That sounds great. I’m totally up for it. My ma is allergic to nuts so we never really have peanut butter around the house at all. So this is a treat.”
roxy-lopez:
“My mom’s a cop. The only thing I’m good at is confronting people,” Roxy said with a bark of laughter, shoving her hands in her pockets while her grin grew. “You know how men are. Gay just means a girl that hasn’t found the right dick yet.” With a scoff, she lifted her arm enough to make the plastic bag hanging from the crook of her elbow move. “I wasn’t lying about the sandwich though. You got a place to be or d’you wanna split it with me?”
“I am very glad that you are...even if you didn’t really confront the guy, I appreciate the fact that you were willing to come help me out.” She rolled her eyes slightly and grumbled about toxic masculinity and the arrogance of some people before her eyes widened slightly at the offer. “I have no where to be. So..I would love to split the sandwich with you.” Rayne said with a kind smile, biting down on her bottom lip. “I haven’t had PB&J in so long.”
roxy-lopez:
Without so much as a glance at the man, Roxy linked her fingers with the other girl’s and let her lead her away. “Don’t look back and don’t drop my hand ‘til we’re around a corner,” she insisted, feeling a pang of anger in her chest over the fact that she even had to have these precautions in place in the first place. “There’s no reason to thank me. Women gotta help each other out, y’know?” Once they rounded a corner, Roxy dropped her hand. “I’m Roxy. Honestly, you sounded a lot nicer than I would’ve. If it gets to a point where they’re obviously looking for more and I gotta say that I’m gay, I expect ‘em to back off immediately. You were a lot nicer.” Roxy offered up a wide grin.
She nodded her head slightly at the girl’s words, holding tightly to her hand until they moved around the corner, biting down on her bottom lip at the girl’s words. “Nice to meet you, Roxy. I’m Rayne. I’m uh...not super good at confrontation. A lot of people in my family are...I just uh...didn’t get the memo I guess.” Rayne said with a short laugh as she rubbed the back of her neck awkwardly. “It does piss me off that my no in the first place wasn’t good enough. Like who the hell does he think he is? Tontopollas.”
roxy-lopez:
Leisurely twisting around where she sat at a table outside as soon as she heard the word gay, Roxy’s brows furrowed at what looked like an exchange between an uncomfortable girl and a guy. Without a second though, she got up, shoved her sandwich back in her plastic bag, and approached them with her drink in hand. “Hi, baby. I got PB&J, I hope that’s okay,” she cooed as soon as she was close enough, a hand on the girl’s back while she angled her body to stick herself even a bit between her and the guy trying to hit on her. “Come on, we need to hurry or we’re gonna be late and you know how abuelita is.”
Rayne jumped slightly when she felt a hand on her back, having not expected anyone to step in at all during the conversation. However, she relaxed when she realized that the girl was trying to help her out, leaning into the girl a bit to try to sell the fact that they were a couple to the guy bothering her; not that it was even his business to begin with, he really should have acknowledged her no. It should have counted for something. “That’s perfect, babe.” Rayne said as she smiled over at the girl. “Definitely don’t want her on my bad side, I just won her over.” She mused, before looking over at the guy. “Gotta go...have a good one.” She then sidled her way in the opposite direction of him, her hand reaching for the girl’s as it slid from her back to lead her away from him. “Thank you so much.” She murmured when they were far enough away from him.
giselle-stjames:
Giselle glanced at the gentleman in question the young brunette was referring to and just shrugged. She hadn’t been listening completely considering she was just trying to wedge her foot out from underneath the girl. “I didn’t know you were shutting anyone down, but congrats? I’m sure they have balloons for that in this day of age.”
Rayne cleared her throat and nodded her head awkwardly. “That would be a waste of materials. Though I imagine it would be likely that there are balloons somewhere for things of that nature.”
giselle-stjames:
Giselle gave the girl a funny look, confused by why the girl thought she was hitting on her. “Please, not interested,” she said with an eye roll. “I was trying to say your standing on my foot, I know the cafe is crowded but personal space is still important.”
She furrowed her eyebrows in confusion and looked up at the girl before glancing down at their feet. “Oh shit. Sorry about that. But I wasn’t talking to you when I mentioned being gay. I was talking to that guy.” She gestured to the guy next to them and shrugged. “Not sure why I’d try to shut you down by saying I’m gay.” She muttered, moving her foot away from the girl and crossed her arms over her chest awkwardly.
“Oh, that’s really sweet.” Rayne said, looking down with an awkward giggle and glancing down at the ground as she rubbed the back of her neck. “But uh...I’m gay.” She cleared her throat and then nodded her head. “Yes, uh...I’m sure.”
