“It... was about her dying.” It was a common nightmare. Ever since her mom had never come home and the reality of that setting in... her dreams had been plagued with a variety of nightmares about her mother’s death. She was used to them at this point, but... now her mind had added a cruel twist.

Yang brought a hand to rest on her sister’s shoulder, she’d watched Ruby take most of this in stride, like it didn’t phase her. But she didn’t have to handle it all alone. She hated the idea of her little sister bearing the weight of the world on her shoulders.
“I’m not going to let them hurt you, Ruby. You know that right?”
Ruby looked up at her sister, slightly caught off guard. It wasn’t like she didn’t know this. Yang had always had her back... and even after everything, she had always believed that. A grateful smile tugged at her lips as she nodded.
“I know, Yang. Still, it’s nice to hear you say it. We’ll always have each other’s backs no matter what.”
