JOSIE AND ROSEMARY AESTHETIC
@rcsefranklin
how can the devil be pulling you towards someone who looks so much like an angel?
wtfjcsie:
Josie couldn’t have helped the cackle that came out of her at Rosemary’s assertion that she was Josie’s kitten if she had tried. God, this had to be up there on her list of accomplishments – corrupt an angel this badly that she was letting Josie assert her claim over her.

No one from New York recognize her as she was now, straddling the lap of a vampire and letting her drink her fill from her. Rosemary was even letting herself be claimed by her. She loved it. There was no worry that Josie would judge her. In that moment, she could let go and do whatever her impulses desired. It was a thrill like no other.
athenaofthesea:
“Yeah,” she agreed, smiling a bit. Athena huffed in amusement, grinning softly. “Really? So I’m not the only one getting used to the craziness around here? I swear, everyday is like… Some new weird experience.”
Rosemary couldn’t help her small grin in return. “You’re not at all. I thought with every new mishap I’d get more used to it, but I’m just more surprised that this is happening here of all places. I thought New York was mad, but West Hollow takes the cake.”
aleks-volk:
“Oh, yeah, whoops,” Aleks chuckled, wiping the stray spatter of blood from his neck with an awkward smile on his face. “I was just practicing for my Halloween costume, earlier,” he lied, it was a lot easier than confessing to somebody that he’d been a little lazy on his clean up that afternoon and was, in fact, wandering around with trace amounts potentially biohazardous matter decorating his skin. “What’s your costume this year?” he asked, trying to shift the attention as promptly as possible.
Rosemary shook her head with a soft laugh as he wiped at the blood on his neck. “I hope that’s what it was,” she replied, not sure if she believed him fully, but didn’t have the heart to call him out on it. “You’ve still got a little,” she gestured to his jawline, then reached out herself and wiped it off with her thumb. “This makes me excited to see your costume, though. Does that mean I’ll see you at the ball?” At his question, she thought for a moment. “I dunno yet. Maybe Wonder Woman. Is it cheating to ask if you have any ideas?”

Winter listened attentively to what she had to say, clenching his fists and occasionally popping a bone by squeezing them a little to hard. Although he had no idea how she was going to answer, her explanation almost seemed expected. He knew it was a Rosemary type of answer: well thought out, heartfelt, and logical. It made sense to him that she never stopped loving him, yet it angered him so much that she would turn away from him just because of her family’s views. He thought that maybe she was right about not making each other happy. At the time, Rosemary didn’t make him the type of happy that a significant other should. The happiness he had was from the potential of seeing her as a demon. If he had felt so good about being a demon, he thought that Rosemary should feel the same way too.
Winter nodded along with her words, hoping that this would be enough of a reaction so he wouldn’t have to speak. After she finished, he realized it wasn’t enough. He exhaled and nodded his head some more. “Yeah, yeah.“ In the small bout of silence, he thought more about her family’s influence on their relationship. “Rosie, your fucking family I swear to God,” he couldn’t help but let out, still angered that they had mainly made her decision for her. Winter hadn’t realized that he called her the nickname out of habit.
“I hated being what I used to be,” he started off, still unable to say the word ‘angel.’ “It didn’t make me happy. I was tired, exhausted, of doing the same good deeds all the fucking time. Whether you realize it or not, you people are so selfish. You do all of these good things only to life yourselves up. Almost like it’s out of pity,” he shook his head, realizing that he was getting a bit off topic with the answer. Winter tried to keep himself calm during his spiel, but his tone indicated that he was getting a bit angry. “It was forced upon me since I was born and that’s not who I was inside. It just took me a lot longer to realize it than it should have. My family didn’t appreciate me or love me and I thought, God, wouldn’t be great to rebel against them and become a demon or something? As I thought more into it, I was like yeah, that’s what I was supposed to be all this time.” Winter cleared his throat, showing no signs crying. He had a lot of questions to ask her, but it took him a bit of time to think of just the right one. “Why did you decide to come here? You had it great back in the city.”
Rosemary was prepared for him to yell, even if they had agreed to a rational conversation. A part of her was begging him to do it because she did deserve it. What came instead was worse, in her opinion. For a beat, she didn’t even realize he used it. Rosie. There was a time where it would be odd for him to call her Rosemary, and she supposed old habits die hard. No one else called her it, not before or since. She didn’t quite have the heart to defend the family she had chosen over him so many years ago. He was right to be angry, and she somewhat still was, too, at them and herself.
Her eyes didn’t leave his as he spoke about his experience as an angel. She immediately wanted to be defensive. This was her kind he was talking about. But she had seen the exhaustion on him, and the frequency of it progressed the longer they were together. She remembered how badly she wanted to help him. All she wanted was for him to feel good and happy again. There was a lump that filled her throat when she realized he had been holding down this part of himself for so long. It was easy to see how suffocating it was, especially with his family. They had loved her and treated her kindly, sure, but that didn’t mean Winter was treated the same once she was out of earshot. “I’m glad...I’m glad you get to be who you are now,” her voice was quiet and sincere. “I don’t like demons. And I know you never needed my approval. I just want you to know I’m happy you don’t have to hide yourself anymore.” It was getting harder to control her emotions.
“You haven’t been back to the city in years, Winter. Much less seen me and my family,” she pointed out, not as a jab, but stating a fact. Things changed. “I was content. Sometimes I was happy.” Her thumbnail dug into her ring finger while she spoke. “I’d never left the area, really. My parents never said I had to stay, but, y’know, they needed help with my siblings. And I’m a free babysitter,” she gave him a rare wry smile, despite not finding much humor in her remark. “And once they had all grown, I wasn’t needed around anymore. Well, I was needed, but it was different. It was boring. My little sisters and brothers were discovering every new shiny thing for the first time in the world, and I’d been stuck there for almost a century,” she couldn’t hide the resentment in her tone. “They’d never even asked if I’d like to leave. I had to bring it up myself. I think the only reason they agreed to support my decision was because they were sure the greater angel wouldn’t allow me to get into any trouble.” She dug her thumb in deeper. “If they knew I was here with you right now ━ If they had known you were here at all, they probably would have banned me from ever visiting the west coast.” It wasn’t a joke in the slightest. “And I know, I don’t have to follow their orders or do what they ask, but...That’s easier said than done, isn’t it?” Her head shook quietly, and she let out a sigh. “I have some breathing room here. I don’t have siblings who might copy my mistakes, or my parents breathing down my neck so I don’t make that mistake.” This was the first time in a long time she had badmouthed her family. “Winter, I want to be like you. I don’t want to have to bury parts of myself. I was hoping I wouldn’t do it here. But it’s still happening,” she admitted, shrugging her shoulders. Her hand brushed over her eyes quickly after because she wasn’t going to tear up at all in front of him. There were still a lot of questions she had for him. “Did you love me? I know you were repressing who you were, when we were together, but...Was it real for you, too?”
athenaofthesea:
“Lilies,” Athena offered, the side of her lips twitched up a bit. “They’re my favorite. …Yeah, I think I remember you now. Sorry I didn’t buy anything - I was kinda still getting my bearings of the town.”
“Lilies, right.” Rosemary nodded, noting the almost smile she got out of Athena. “I can see why. They’re underrated, in my opinion.” She shook her head at her apology. “There’s no need to be. A lot of people come in and just look,” she told her kindly. “So you’re new around here, then? Because I am, too, still, sorta, if that helps any.”

Everything had a purpose in Josie’s line of work. If she had simply attacked Rosemary on the sidewalk with no followup, she would be fighting against their strength as they tried to claw her off. If she didn’t make sure Rosemary was sufficiently pleased before digging into her, the pain would have been too immense. Josie thought of her own sexuality, her own ability to seduce her prey, as a sort of numbing before the incision.

Never had she thought one of the positives of being an angel was how tempting her blood was to vampires. That was actually one of the few negatives, as her parents told her when she was barely a teenager. Rosemary should always be on the defensive with them. While they didn’t like to be judgmental, they prioritized her safety and wellbeing over it. But with Josie’s fangs currently sunk into her neck, she couldn’t understand what the worry was all about. She couldn’t die, and there was barely any pain.

“I wouldn’t do that if I were you, dear” he said, keeping a serious face as he referred to the person who approached the black cat sitting on the counter at his store. “She’s not a fan of humans, or anything else,” he joked. Kinda.
A tiny bell chimed as Rosemary entered Hocus Pocus. The smell of tobacco was the first thing that hit her, followed by a rush of homesickness. Her father was a big smoker, despite how much her mom tried to curb his habit. While perusing the store, she noticed the cat on the counter. She walked toward it, ready to reach out and pet it. That was until she was warned she shouldn’t. Rosemary stopped where she stood, raising an eyebrow at the man. His anything else joke was actually amusing, when she realized she was dealing with a warlock. “Is she a guard cat, then?” she asked jokingly back.
athenaofthesea:
“Athena,” she introduced herself hesitantly, hopping down from fence. She squinted against the dark, more or less getting a good view of the stranger. On one of those days the mermaid had wandered aimlessly in the town when first moving, revelling in the freedom from her mother, she must have caught a glimpse of the stranger before. There were many shops she looked through the windows of, but she couldn’t place the woman at the moment. “You look familiar… Have I seen you around the town?”
Her smile only widened as she got the stranger’s ─ Athena’s ─ name. She could admit, too, a wave of relief hit her as she jumped off the fence. As she moved closer, Rosemary realized that she had seen her face before. It appeared she wasn’t the only one who remembered either. “You might have. I work at Sherwood Floral,” she told her, taking a step forward. It was her eyes that gave her the connection. “You’re the one who was appreciating our...What was it? I remember thinking whatever you were looking at brought out your eyes.”
wintcrharvey:
As Rosemary volunteered Winter to go first, his mind seemed to draw a blank. There was so much to talk about but he couldn’t seem to call the right topic to mind. He knew talking about this was going to be hard, making him experience some soft emotions that he hadn’t felt in over a decade. Though, he needed to talk about this. All of it. Rosemary had her closure when she left and Winter was left to try to put together the puzzle pieces.
“Fuck,” he muttered, still trying to bring some thoughts to mind. Although he didn’t necessarily want to start with the hard questions, it was all that was coming to mind. “One asks, one answers. Got it?” Winter tried to take some control over the structure of the conversation to make him feel less inferior. His inferiority most likely wasn’t going to diminish, though. Even the thought of thinking about his time as an angel gave him a belittled sense of himself. “Let’s get it over with. Why did you leave?”
Her fingers ran across the chain on her neck, staring down at it with little focus on the necklace itself. It was either look at that or Winter. A bubble of laughter nearly escaped her, in disbelief that he had asked a question with an obvious answer. That’s when it occurred to her. She had never told him why. The moment she had turned her back on him for ( what she thought would be ) the final time, she had assumed he knew what had brought this on.
“A lot of reasons,” Rosemary murmured, raising her eyes towards his. “You weren’t making me happy anymore. And I wasn’t making you happy.” She swallowed and took a deep breath. “I hadn’t fallen out of love with you. Not in the slightest. Even with how much you changed, I still loved you. And I had wanted to stay with you through it. I didn’t want to give you up.” Her thumb dug into her palm. “But ─ My brothers and sisters looked up to you, Winter. And my parents were telling me how you could influence them, and confuse them about who they wanted to be,” she admitted. “They thought you were going to change me. And when I argued ─ They were sure you’d already gotten into my head.” She let out a sigh. “So. I caved. I left because I didn’t want to disappoint them. I couldn’t go against them. No matter how I felt about you.” There’s an apology she’s sure she should give him, but they were past having regrets about either of their decisions. After a moment to collect her voice again, she asked her own question. “Why did you become a demon?”

When Evangeline was finished, she placed the box of puppets into one of the compartments of a mini shelf. She scanned the room to see if there was anything else that needed to be done. She decided to help Rosemary out with the books. There were so many left behind from the last few kids sitting in the reading nook. “Well, nowadays it’s called Hermosillo. It’s not that well-known like Mexico City, I don’t think, but it’s a city nonetheless.“ Evangeline smiled. “Mexico’s great. New York sounds great as well! I think Brooklyn would be a great place to live.” When they were finished, she dusted away invisible dirt off her shirt as she stood up. She noticed a parent walk in, talked a little to them, and gave them back their child.
“Oh, yes, of course! I’m sure everyone else would be happy to meet you,” Evangeline’s eyes lit up. She began to clean up a kitchen set the child had been playing with before leaving. “Have you met the Greater Angel here, at least?”
Rosemary gave Evangeline a grateful smile as she began to help her put away the books. It was nice to know that the children were enjoying the books, even if they had left a bit of a mess behind. She caught the other angel’s use of ‘nowadays’, and wondered how old she truly was. “From the way you look when you talk about it, it sounds like an amazing place. Even if I haven’t heard of it. How long did you live there for?” Rosemary asked curiously. “I learned a lot there.” But not enough to save your ass in a fight, her mind annoyingly added. She shook it off, and went to go play with a child all by themselves in front of the dollhouse. With a wince, she kneeled down, beginning to play dolls with them, which brought a few other kids over to them. They ran off to go play with the legos once they saw those were free to use again.
“I hope so. A big reason I chose to come here is because of the angel community,” she admitted, feeling a lot better than she had before about it now that she was talking to a fellow angel. Her head shook. “I spoke to them on the phone. Briefly. But not face to face yet.” She tilted her head at her. “But could I ask what they’re like? The Greater Angels in the city were quite hard to meet, so I’ve only met one or two before.”

After everything that had happened with the festival, Wesley actually found himself looking forward to his shift working at Talbots in the hope that it would bring back some sense of normalcy. It had taken him four years since he was first turned to feel in control and now it seemed like West Hollow was ripping that away from him again, after the chaos of that day. So instead of dwelling on what happened, Wesley was actively trying to focus on getting things back to the way they were before and that meant back to work where he was now. With an empty counter he was hanging out back in the kitchen until his hearing picked up on someone else coming in the diner. When he walked out to greet whoever was there he noticed a familiar face by the juke box before hearing the curse and coins against the tile. It only took him a second to rush over and help, although it wasn’t much needed anymore, he still felt bad if he’d taken her by surprise. “Wolf flower boy?” Wesley chuckled, extending his hand to offer her help up and introduce himself again. “I also go by Wesley, but wolf flower boy definitely has a ring. And you are the very helpful angel flower girl?” he asked leaning against the juke box. “So had you reached a verdict on which song before I interrupted?”
It was nice to see a familiar friendly face that night. A large part of her encounters so far had been on the hostile side, since she moved to town. Rosemary laughed with him as he repeated the nickname. “It’s the only thing I could come up with to call you in my head.” She took his hand and pulled herself up from the ground. Her smile widened as she finally got his name. “Wesley. A lot less of a mouthful.” Another fit of laughter came from her at the name he referred to her as. “I usually go by Rosemary. But I could ask my boss about fitting that on a name tag, I don’t think she’d go for it, though.” she answered. “Speaking of flowers, any luck in finding the right kind for that girl you like?” she asked with a raise of her eyebrows. Her head turned to glance back at the juke box as he asked about it. “I had.” She shoved one more coin in the slot, then pressed the play button, grinning as she did. September by Earth, Wind, & Fire began to blast through the speakers, and she couldn’t help moving her body to the beat. “Please tell me you’ve heard this before. It’s probably a bit before your time, but it’s so good.” It certainly was bringing her out of her bad mood. The memories of dancing around the living room with her little sister, belting out the lyrics and twirling each other around, filled her mind. She missed those times. After a moment, she blinked herself out of it, smiling over at Wesley again. “Thank you, by the way. For the help with my coins.”
athenaofthesea:
She thought she heard air move like a blow — a soft, barely audible flap of wings in the close distance. Possibly a seagull or a couple of them, so she ignored it. Then she’d heard the footsteps the woman spoke. Athena turned her head to look at her. “… I’ll be fine,” she said, still balanced on the precariously bent fence post. A dark eyebrow arched and she exhaled, somewhat impatient. “Who are you?”
Rosemary watched her curiously, finding herself impressed by her balance. It did nothing to lessen her worry over what could happen to the mermaid if she jumped in. “Still. It’s quite dark and I just want to make sure your safe.” While mermaids and angels weren’t the closest of species, she’d never want any harm to come to them. She gave her a small smile at her question. “I’m Rosemary. Who are you?”
wtfjcsie:
Josie liked to watch the hope die out in their eyes, to see the unraveling. It was usually a lot better when they didn’t know her plans, when the woman and men she lured into her web fell with other intents. That was they could have a dream of her right before they died. How sweet, she thought as she had drained them out, their blood is filled with the sugary delight of me. At the quiver of Rosemary’s lip, she felt the same excitement that came with the ones she had seduced, and indeed, she had seduced Rosemary.

Rosemary wondered at what point she could have stopped this from happening. The times where she had thought she was within reach of stealing the upper hand from Josie were mere fallacies. Her confidence was a rug the vampire loved pulling out from under her. She had let her. That was the worst part of it all. From the moment she had stopped and contemplated her offer, she had done exactly what Josie wanted. Sure, she’d been coaxed by her somewhat, but she also played along. She even liked some of it. What was wrong with her?
athenaofthesea:
The night was young and Athena was restless. Her new job at the cafè had resulted in an entire morning and afternoon of unexpected stress as she had tried to get the hang of everything expected from her and deal with a couple of moody customers. By the evening, the young mermaid was searching for a bit of fun — and a bit of the reason why she’d moved to West Hollow in the first place.
Athena had been far too disconnected from her merfolk origins in New York and moved across the entire country to find the place rumored to be a safe haven for her kind and a place to see the merfolk kingdom that she’d been denied from visiting for far too long. It wasn’t until her cold-hearted mother had died a week ago that Athena had gotten the chance to finally do it.
As the mermaid climbed up a wooden fence at the pier and looked down at the water below her, she prepared herself to jump. It was only when she heard footsteps behind her that she realized maybe it would have been better to check that there really wasn’t anyone nearby if she wanted to jump off the pier at night.
After finishing her shift for the night at the floral shop, Rosemary went on her way home. It took her by the beach on the way, which had been such a nice sight when she first moved there. As she walked past it now, it only seemed to louden the throbbing over her injuries and quicken her heartbeat. Her fingers curled around her bag, despite the area being deserted at this hour. Even the volunteers had retreated back home, it was too dark to do much clean up.
She took a deep breath, and closed her eyes. Everything was alright. That helped, until she opened her eyes and spotted a figure in the distance, flinching as she did. Her eyes widened as she watched them climb onto the fence post, and she couldn’t let herself stay back any longer. Taking a few steps forward, she saw the mess that still covered the beach and took a look around behind her. Once it looked clear, she spread her wings and let herself fly quietly over to the pier.
As soon as she landed, she folded them back in, and took a step toward the stranger. Her focus and closeness to her promptly gave away what the woman was. “There’s still debris in the water, I think,” Rosemary spoke up, taking another step forward. “Not that I want to stop you. Only to caution you. I don’t want you to get hurt.”
wintcrharvey:
@rcsefranklin
Long bouts of yelling, confrontation, and hatred were suddenly put to a stop. The pair weren’t expecting Rosemary to make the final verbal blow. The phrase had come out of such anger, frustration, and confusion that it shocked the both of them. Winter was rattled beyond compare. He never expected to hear those hateful words, especially coming from Rosemary. She must have changed since he last saw her. Then again, didn’t he?
It took all of his energy not to end all of this right now. Most importantly, not to end her. He closed his eyes for a moment, taking a deep breath while running his fingers through his hair. Rosemary already had her closure, but Winter didn’t. “You want to talk about this rationally? Fine, let’s fucking talk about it.” Even if she may not necessarily want to talk about what happened, he did.
Maybe you're right, I never loved you. And maybe I should have dealt with you when I had the chance. It was as if she was watching herself from outside her body as the words flowed out of her. She snapped back into it the second she finished, too late to stop herself, and unable to even take back what she had said. The shock wouldn’t allow her to talk. Winter probably wouldn’t have believed that she didn’t mean it anyway. Rosemary wasn’t completely convinced herself either.
His silence was enough to tell her she had hit a nerve. It’s what she had wanted in those seconds before. Now, she only felt sick about the whole thing. She expected him to leave, or perhaps start the physical fight this had been leading towards. What she did not foresee was this. “You want to talk about it? Rationally?” she questioned in disbelief. Her immediate response would be to say no. She didn’t want to go back to that place and those emotions. It was easier to hide behind harsh words and shouts. If they actually talked things out, she’d be completely vulnerable, and he had lost the right to see her that way. But the more she thought about it, she knew that this needed to happen. Whether she wanted it to or not, it didn’t matter. “Fine, okay, Winter,” her voice was softer this time. She paused. “Should...Do you want to go first?”
