Simon always wrapping his arm around something in his sleep, the blankets, a weapon if he's been scared to the point of wanting a defense item, his own pillow so he's sleeping without, himself. So Grace makes him something, following tutorials on the computer and tearing apart some clothes that are too worn out from the years in space. It's not great, it's lopsided and awkward and, when Grace catches Simon self depreciating and being nervous and having himself because of the lack of his arm, he decides not to give the monstrosity of a stuffed bunny an arm. He's not expecting much when he gives Simon a plushie but the response he gets is conflicted. Simon is an adult, he doesn't need kid things, and he's strong, he doesn't need to be coddled, and what's Grace thinking, eating time and resources on him?, but he's so touched that Grace made something for him, and it's so soft and it smells nice, and he hasn't had anything like this in so long, and it's it okay? Really? Can he have this? Simon sleeps with it all the time. He carries it all over the ship. When he's working on something difficult he talks it through to the rabbit like it's an apprentice. He lets himself have his first breakdown, crying into her tummy, keeping his left side angled away so he doesn't hurt her.

I want him to mention offhandedly something about hating chain, and i want the others to assume its due to some horrible trauma, but no, he just made chain for two weeks straight

Like, grace from after living on erid for a decade or two is now on earth working on phm again.

Someone mentions how theyll need chain gor something idk, and grace suddenly cuts in

“Ugh, i hate chain. I see it in my nightmares.”

Everyone stares at him. Why on earth would anyone have that reaction to chain. The only reason you couldn’t hear a pin drop is because grace keeps talking and rambling, moving past the chain.

Everyone comes to similar conclusions of trauma, but nobody is right, obviously.
