I want specifically book grace with any of his ships and/or family. Anyone hes ever known, in project hail mary or not. for some readon he returned to earth, or its bloodymary and simon appeared on erid or after time go fishing

I want him to mention offhandedly something about hating chain, and i want the others to assume its due to some horrible trauma, but no, he just made chain for two weeks straight

If its coltland twins, colt wonders what tbe fuck happened and when and why didnt ryland tell him?

Tom ryder assumes something bad happened in a kinky scene of sorts(hes an asshole but hes famous and hot, he knows what sa is.)

But i think itd be funnier if its a time travel fixit. Grace has gone to the past, nobody knows, but grace keeps making references to things that could be passed off as actual happenings that didn’t occur in space

Like, grace from after living on erid for a decade or two is now on earth working on phm again.

Someone mentions how theyll need chain gor something idk, and grace suddenly cuts in

“Ugh, i hate chain. I see it in my nightmares.”

Everyone stares at him. Why on earth would anyone have that reaction to chain. The only reason you couldn’t hear a pin drop is because grace keeps talking and rambling, moving past the chain.

Everyone comes to similar conclusions of trauma, but nobody is right, obviously.

i LOVE when bloody mary is the normal trope, simon ends up on the hail mary normally, but like rocky is asleep when simon wakes up.

“Oh yeah this is rocky! Hes asleep at the moment, he’ll be up and excited to meet you later, yadda yadda—“

And simons just thinking holy shit my life was saved by this insane man. He talks to a rock. He saved the stars? He talks to a rock. He talks to a rock that he keeps in some weird glass ball

And than later rocky finally wakes up, but simon doesn’t realize the rock is moving until hes directly behind simon and going “hello new human! Am roocky! Why screaming, question?”

Bloody mary, but neither is in space. Simon grew up in a cult, meets ryland, yadda yadda, idk what i want his job to be but that doesnt matter(im leaning towards him owning a flowershop of some kind). They meet after grace leaves his job in science and whatever, and is becoming a teacher. Flash forward a couple years, simon goes missing. No explanation, no trace, its like he disappeared off the face of the earth.

Cause he did. He wakes up in one of two situations, idk how but how does simon ever end up in phm with grace

1. As a kid in eden. He goes about his life being manipulated into thinking grace was some elaborate dream. Then hes put on the sm-13 and all that happens. In this one, he would lose his arm getting out of his og cult, which adds extra confusion when hes suddenly twelve years old, his mother is dying, hes back in some even worse version of his cult, and hes no longer an amputee

2. He wakes up on the iron lung, and is smart enough to stay alive in this unfamiliar and deeply horrifying world and all hes thinking about is his husband grace. He didnt lose his arm in escaping his cult cause i want this to be his body and i want him to have to rip it off. Ava thinks simon is pretending to have lost his memory to try to get out of this

Grace doesnt know any of this. All he knows is his his husband is missing, presumed dead. Of course, he never gives up hope. He knows simon is alive, he just knows it. A couple years pass maybe, and hes recruited to project hail mary. Bla bla bla all that happens normally. Eva’s little speach about him having no one is slightly changed but it hits harder.

I want grace to find simon before he ultimately remembers him, because their obviously going to meet again. But this means grace either remembered simon really late(would make sense, depending on how many years simon went missing before the events of phm.) or simon gets there like mid main movie on the hail mary

Either way, grace doesn’t remember him. If you chooe option number one for simon, they re get to know each other in a similar ways. Simon blocked out some of his life with grace, grae doesnt remember anything, but they remember things about each other while geetting to know the new versions.

If you choose option number two, theres more angst in that for simon, it has been at most a day or two since hes seen grace. Hes still gone through the horrors, but everything about his husband is fresh on the mind.

But grace hasnt seen him in years, and doesnt even remember him. But that means simon also has to grapple with this new version of a man he saw not too long ago.

Grace has migraines constantly from the stress of meeting a man covered in blood in the middle of space, and then remembering marrying this man years ago.

And rockys here through everything and thinks their both dumb.

Okay, so wing/avian bloody mary, BUT simons universe doesnt have wings. The second BUT is that grace lost his wings before phm. How? Idk. Did stratt take them in a similar way theyd take his appendix? Was he closer to the explosion tha took dubois and shapiro? Freak accident as a kid? Does he not remember? Up to you!

But point is, grace is an amputee, but simon doesn’t realize. Why would he? He didnt know humans could have wings.

Grace attempts to bond with simon over losing a limb(or two, technically?) and is mostly referring to his and simons supposed wings, but to simon, it just comes across as grace acting insanely weird about his arm. So simon picks a fight, says grace will never understand, yadda yadda, grace is confused and hurt, bla bla bla.

What im thinking happens next doesnt have to be what happens for you.

After, say, a couple weeks of simon avoiding grace(things changes things whether its on the hail mary or in the biodome) maybe walks in on grace shirtless for whatever reason, maybe the pebbles are on a fieldtrip and he got splashed when they were playing in the artificial ocean, but simon sees the twin scars on his back, and asks cause he cares less about manners, idk he grew up in a cult and im scared of mischaracterization

OR grace sees simon shirtless for whatever reason and realizes he doesn’t have and leftover scars. Weird. Usually, amputation leaves behind scars.. grace is smart, sometimes, he’ll figure it out. With either very little tact Or insane anxiety that has him take a while to actually ask, grace realizes people dont have wings where simon comes from. I want grace to explain the miscommunication to simon.

Is this a weird and likely too complicated concept for anyone to like it? Probably

Grace is changing a bandaged wrap on Simon’s healing stump, this unexpected crewmate was adjusting well to the ship. The beginning of it all was, a wild learning curve— but, Simon’s injuries were healing well.

It’s was kinda nice, at least- that the only other human on this ship could sympathize with wing loss.

Grace remembers the fear, the grief- the pure, horrific shock- of waking up from that coma. Finding that he was missing his two twin limbs. When Simon first woke up- and thank heavens he did- Grace made sure the man wouldn’t feel that same loneliness.

“Do want me to check your back..?” He asked, after finishing up replacing those wrappings.

“I want you to get off my back. Doctor.” He snaps out suddenly-

Grace blinked, and leaned back in his chair. Giving Simon some distance, as well as a confused glare.

“Okay. Where’d that come from?” Grace crosses his arms and tilts his head.

“You have been acting up your injuries this whole fucking time, Ryland.” Simon snarled, “you don’t know what’s it’s like, and you have no idea what I’m going through.”

Grace makes sharp eye contact, mouth agape, “How could you say that?”

Simon’s brows furrow in rage, and then he looks away, jaw tense, “you have no idea what I’ve lost. You’ve been saying bullshit, trying to relate-“

“Yeah, wow!! I’ve been nothing but nice to you, how horrible!” Grace throws his arms in the air, exasperated, “Are you hearing yourself right now! I get that I still have my arm, but you know I lost-“

“Are you hearing yourself?!” Simon interrupts, “are you really this full of yourself?” Simon gets up from the medical table, catching himself before an off-balance stumble, “Stop pretending you understand!”

Simon makes his way to leave the room, Grace follows after him, “I can’t fly, Simon, who else have you known like that?”

Simon snorts- “Really? This isn’t like being a bad pilot.” Grace was comparing the smallest bits of human error to the literal loss of a limb, Simon assumed-

Sarcasm, Grace assumes that Simon was just being sarcastic and cruel with him.

Grace stops in his tracks, “Screw you, Simon.”

Simon continues pacing to the other end up of the ship,

“Fuck you, Ryland!”

I like the idea of grace talking to simon about his trauma, how he thinks hes a coward and a bad person and all that, and simon patiently listening pointedly nottelling him about the shitshow that had been filament station

But i think i like the reverse with vampire grace with loose morals even more.

“Im a horrible person. Im a convict. A murderer. You would have been better off finding someone else. I was in the blood ocean for a reason”

Grace patiently waits for him to be done angsting and debates telling him about the people hes killed, on purpose, depending on how loose you want his morals. He tries not(or does idk) think about how delicious a blood ocean sounds

People NEED to start making more creature ryland grace fics where he still goes to space. But combine simon with it.

Make him a diety or angel some sort and meet a simon with intense religious trauma who is convinced this guy who saved him is an angel and might also potentially be right

When markiplier played iron lung the game there was a brief moment he said something about a soren of the blood ocean cause of the music. Make simon think this. Make grace a siren, sent to space(light years away from any body of water) and try to hide this from siren further when he realizes this bit of simons trauma

Make grace a selkie. Please. I dont care if simon is in this one or not I NEED HIM TO BE A SELKIE SO BADLY

Make grace a demon, and simons keeps calling him an angel and its gets incredibly awkward and weird

Make grace a vampire who barely holds himself back from cleaning this strange bloody man (extra points if you make it so hes killed people before so he could eat, and hes wondering what to tell this human who says he’s a horrible murderer and ‘you’ll never understand’ and just all emo or some shit)

MAKE GRACE A SELKIE

Make him a shapeshifter of sorts, like a fox shifter, whos animal was never meant to be on anything but land, but is sent to space, and will never see a forest again. Make simon learn what the hell a fox is.

Make grace be able to turn into a bird. Make him never have the time to fly/being, ahem, chicken out when hes about to fly or something, but miss it terribly in space, when he realizes he’ll never fly again. imagine simon watching grace soar in the biodome(not important but i jmagine theres a special flight more for the sky screens so he doesnt smack into them forgetting its not endless) just after learning what a bird is

I don't have an explanation for why Grace got sent up, I just feel like making Simon sad for a bit.

Simon clutching Grace's coat and crying into it. Grace feeling it and knowing he has to go back eventually and not really knowing why.

Grace occasionally switching to seal barks and sign language. He doesn't know why he does he just knows that it's occasionally easier.

Simon often sitting at the beach with Graces coat around him. He often has two other selkies sitting by him in seal form.

Rocky knows about the tug Grace feels. When the space blob leaves, he promises to find a way to visit. Grace only smiles in response.

Grace running from Stratt again, but Carl tells her to let him go. (Carl met Simon. He knows what Grace misses most)

Simon sitting on the beach with the two other selkies when the more stoic of the two perks up. Said selkie squirming into his human form and running towards someone. The other selkie staying with Simon but still looking towards where the other had run.

Grace being greeted by a man with his face, only wearier. Being trapped in a hug mere feet away from his husband. Trying to get the other man to let go, and when he finally does, running the rest of the way to his Simon.

Simon being tackled by what has to be a ghost, only to realize it's real when he feels familiar lips on his. Sitting them up but keeping them close. They've been apart far too long

Grace feeling a coat slip over his shoulders. He feels like he should know the coat. After all it feels like a second skin.

Simon zipping up Ryland's coat and carrying him to the sea. He knows his selkie misses the water, especially with how he keeps slipping into seal barks instead of speaking.

Ryland turning into his seal form and remembering things he never would have if he didn't get his coat back. His brothers, his coat, his species. He knew that Simon was important, but him being Ryland's chosen coatkeeper? That's far more important than Ryland intially thought.

I like stories that make you cry because they have a bittersweet ending. Bittersweet angst I suppose. Angst from joy if that makes sense. I hope I got it, I don't write angst much.
