Summary
“Are you sure this is what you want?” Alya asked, her hand gently stroking her back in a comforting gesture.
Marinette sniffled, wiping away her tears. “This is not what I want,” she cried. “But I don’t have a choice.”
The weight of her secret identity was overwhelming, suffocating her a little more every day and straining her relationship with Adrien. She wished she could say “screw it” and be with him freely, but it wasn’t a possibility. Although their love was undeniable, her responsibility as Ladybug had to come first. The people of Paris depended on her. She had agreed to this a long time ago, but the sacrifice still felt like agony.
“I can’t keep doing this to him,” Marinette continued, her voice filled with sadness. “Adrien deserves better. I see the pain in his eyes. Every time an akuma interrupts our dates or I have to leave abruptly, it kills him a little bit more inside. And he never says anything, not even when I had to leave while we were having sex! But this isn’t fair to him. He deserves so much more than this. I want to see him smile again, even if I’m not the cause of his happiness.”
