nicole and kate posted wip wednesdays so now i am posting wip wednesday
"You could have gone with him," she said, smoke wafting in the general direction she imagined Saren to be hiding out, somewhere deep in the deserts protected by the shroud the geth cast over him, with nothing to keep him company except the charred remains of the beacon.
"I could have."
"And you could go back to your own people. But you're here, with more humans than you've probably seen alive this whole cycle. Alliance, top ambassadors, an admiral." It was layered just underneath her voice so plainly, she suddenly understood decades of human discussion around subvocals. She wanted to hurl all of it right in his face, and the cherry on top would be that in three months none of it would matter anyway. None of it would matter, and yet now she could still choose to be unfair. She sounded like a child— not that she ever got to be one of those, anyways.
He took it all, and didn't even blink. Come to think of it, she didn't think she had ever seen him blink before. It was all blue eyes, shockingly cold, like an ice pick breaking her skin. She saw someone she was conditioned to hate, she saw someone she could have left bleeding out in a ravine. She saw the balcony, the sun setting over Victorious, and all of the things he tried— he tried— to say to her without actually saying any of it.
"I think…" Garrus said, his voice of the very edge of a game of tug of war, frayed and threatening to veer into territory very much uncharted, "you should have died a dozen times this past week. You haven't, and it's not for lack of trying. That beacon, it should have killed you. The geth ship, the husk, Saren, all of it. You took it all like it was nothing, woke up like it was a nap with a bad dream. I'm not a religious person, but I think that it has to be some sign that you're the only one out of the lot of them still standing. And when we make it to the Citadel—"
"If."
"When, I want to be there. If you'll have me."
i know you posted this only 35 minutes ago but i think something in my brain activated with "consider me eased, commander"
i did cackle a little evilly in my bed when i came up with that i will not lie

i wanted to do a quick drawing of ro in her middle age (taking the extended human lifespans of mass effect into account)
i imagine that working as an instructor at ICT is her idea of retirement. she's a tough but fair teacher and enjoys designing complex field training exercises that can really challenge her recruits. maybe she even brings in a certain fellow sharpshooter in as a guest instructor from time to time.
in addition to the burns from harbinger's beam, she suffers from nerve damage as a result of her destroyed cybernetics. her right hand has a significant tremor and she has neuropathy. this significantly impacts her ability to hold, aim, and fire weapons until she creates weapon mods that can accommodate her disability - she doesn't really feel like herself until she can nail a target from a thousand yards.
after roughly fifty years, her skin grafts and other scars would probably be more healed than this, but i got a bit carried away lol. i like the idea of her having some kind of zuko thing going on with obvious facial disfigurement. she owns it
bonus under the cut because it came out a little wonky and i don't like it that much but i do want to share her jumpsuit
wayward part two, chapter 10: good ol' fashioned diplomacy
An Archive of Our Own, a project of the Organization for Transformative Works
The blankets were too much. Shepard pushed herself out of her cocoon (Dr. Chakwas looked murderous, but she let it slide this time. Though Shepard knew that she would get her revenge when Anderson and Udina were gone). Pacing back and forth wasn't an option with how shaky she still was. She leaned against the hull of the Mako, and made it seem as though it was her intended location.
Her fingers felt like wood. Me? she wanted to ask. I'm supposed to be the banner of peace? She felt like one great big fraud. The only thing she managed to do was get the beacon destroyed. And now galactic peace was riding on her? The Alliance would back her? The Hierarchy? She wanted to tell Udina that he was mistaken, that he had gotten her confused with someone else. She didn't feel as though she had earned the right to be the most important person in the room. She could count her failures on both hands, and it still wouldn't be enough. A beacon would have bettered the whole galactic community with the technology the Council's top scientists could pull. What could she possibly do to stand up to that?
bait and switch
SO COLORFUL
it fascinates me that theres (probably) billions of species left undiscovered
Here is an adult :)
The black-backed dwarf kingfisher is also very pretty!
the colors on that last one hurt to look at. Are we sure this isn’t a shop job?
They’re real! The black backed dwarf kingfisher, Scientific name Ceyx erithaca.
They’re around the size of a medium hummingbird, 5.5 inch (13 cm) from tip of beak to end of tail. Which is why their prey looks so huge by comparison!
