I've been seeing a lot of talk about the mess left behind after the Women's march, and I agree that it's disgusting and terrible. But everyone is acting like it's the women's fault/something new.
Not only were there also men there, but every big gathering or event (concerts, rallies, etc) I've been to has been like this. Why are people suddenly so outraged? Because it was a women centric event? And women are supposed to be more conscious of this kind of stuff? I don't know, but it's silly to me that its such a big deal, ONLY because IT'S NOT NEW.
People trash everything. Period. I go to ACL- which is held in Austins biggest park, and when that event is over, the park is trashed. Despite incentives and volunteers cleaning during the event.
There is vomit, poop, beer cans, signs, cigarette butts, diapers, food wrappers, drug paraphernalia, and just about everything else you can imagine, scattered all across the park that I love.
After SXSW there is trash all over the city. Any large scale event ends this way. Even our holidays leave trash all over the country. Halloween, you get candy wrappers, bits of clothes, paper, fake spider webs. July 4th, fireworks. Christmas, paper paper paper, boxes, etc.
THIS IS NOT AN ISOLATED EVENT. ANYTIME PEOPLE GATHER, THERE IS TRASH LEFT BEHIND.
Hell, there are people building apartments by my house, and I am constantly having to pick up trash in my yard because they just throw it down and it blows over.
It's always disgusting and it's always an issue. So, how about we get upset about trash in general? How about we all stop throwing our stuff on the ground because we don't want to go to the trash can?
