Prologue

“A few months have passed since the ending of the clone wars. Maul, with the mandalorians remaining with him, begins his route to Janix seeking revenge. He must come up with a plan, and the first step involves getting credits into his pockets and learning about the city.

What begins as a mutually beneficial alliance with a hotel owner shifts to something deeper when he finds himself trying to keep the place operational outside of their initial agreement. Maybe it’s the night brothers he meets there, or just the rage he feels when all they’ve built is put as risk. Perhaps it’s the owner herself, someone who could understand continuously pushing the boulder uphill no matter how often it falls.”

“Last night we weren’t real people. When did we become worth dying for?” Temp asked Crysis not long after they regrouped on the far riverbank. As if Crysis had an answer.

An illustration from my fic! One of the scenes I’ve been thinking about the most for a while. Crysis (holding the saber) Temp and the Padawan (Disstla) had been separated from the rest of the squad during their mission. Lavana had promised to find her again, had promised it would be ok and that she only needed to be brave. Temp and Crysis would protect her. They did their best to save her but in the end it was a self sacrifice because the building was in flames, her leg was mangled, and she knew carrying her out meant none of them made it. Despite her feelings about the war, her bitterness to the clones, she didn’t want them to die so she pushed them away and locked her self where they couldn’t get her. And they TRIED.

Lavana will never forgive herself for not being there.

Diane from Bojack horseman and Maul from Starwars both need their suffering to amount to purpose. The difference (aside from Maul also just being evil) is Diane will eventually understand there is more to trauma than what you do with it she will go on to write what she loves vs what she feels obligated towards.

Where we know the story of maul, all his tragic upbringing, all the death and pain. He’s angry because he thought all this suffering meant he would be powerful. Meant he had a place at sidious side in ruling the galaxy, so when he was abandoned he lost his mind. Now determined to do something w his power because he cannot cope with thinking all his suffering was useless. The whole POINT of the sith is anger, pain, etc all give you more power. Yet he was discarded the moment he wasn’t useful

Only maul will never heal, he won’t learn that life is more than revenge and a purpose to pain. He will never learn to just do what he loves, because he has no idea what love is.

Quick personal observation from ep 7/8 of Shadow lord. That moment where Maul says ‘likewise’ sits with me because I’m sure on the surface he is saying he wants to Emperor/Sidious dead in the same way he wants Maul dead. But ‘likewise’ to me felt (especially after the visions in ep8) almost felt like a part of Maul was also saying he wants himself dead.

“The emperor wants you dead.”

“Likewise.” (I want myself dead too)

Does this make sense to anyone else or am I overthinking 😭

I understood his story before I watched ep 8 but damn seeing it laid out like that was so much worse. So much care went into the writing of this character it makes my heart ache.
