This blog post made my heart happy and sad at the same time because you are going home and are happy to see your god mother and her sons and do all these activities with them, but then once it's time to leave again they get upset because they care about you and don't want you to leave them but that just makes the next visit that much more special and meaningful. I fortunately commute to school but my cousins live an 90 minutes away so seeing them is so exciting when they come to town but seeing them leave makes me so sad because there isn't enough time to catch them up on everything and do everything we had planned so we make those plans the first priority when they come back to buffalo for another visit

I always get so excited when this time of year comes around. As much as I hate to see the warm weather fade away and the sun start to set earlier, there are so many things to look forward to in the next couple of months! Fall always has a great crisp smell in the air that I love. I also like the fashion that comes along with the season. The big sweaters and leggings with boots. It is always fun to go pumpkin and apple picking and do corn mazes before Halloween. I used to like the haunted houses but I always get so scared that I have just stopped putting myself through that. The movies that are on TV are always really good time, my favorite being Hocus Pocus. Fall time also means Thanksgiving, which who doesn’t love. It is literally a day you can stuff yourself with amazing food and not feel guilty about it. It is also nice to have family all together and see the ones you do not see that often besides holidays. Once Thanksgiving is over that means that its one of the best times of the year, the end of the semester haha. Although it is such a stressful time to finish up finial projects, cram in the remainder of lessons, and study for the dreaded finials week, it is amazing when it’s over. Then everyone comes home from school and you can see all your friends from high school! The week right after finials week is Christmas, which of course is the best holiday ever! I love how everyone is so happy around this time of the year. There are also some more really good movies on TV for this season too. Elf is by far one of my favorite Christmas movies. My boyfriend’s mom always watches those sappy Hallmark movies and I usually get sucked into them and end up spending a whole day just doing that. Then of course there is the Christmas cookies and the fudge, love the fudge. I feel as though the different food really is one of my favorite parts in every different holiday. The winter is also a fun time because I love to go skiing and tubing. I have definitely found that living in Buffalo is much more enjoyable when you learn to love the snow. Especially since we have it for such a long portion of the year and so much of it. I am so excited for all these things coming up! I just hope they don’t pass by too fast.

The holidays really is the best time of the year, everyone around you is so happy to be giving gifts and receiving them and it seems like all the bad parts of your life can just slip away. Christmas doesn't feel like Christmas without watching Will Ferrell on repeat. Fall in buffalo makes everything so much more exciting too everyone here loves fall there are so many great places here to go to see the different colors of the leaves. The worst part would be finals week which I agree is very stressful but the reward after its all over is the most amazing feeling.

Society

Now a days it’s so hard to find someone that puts someone else before themselves. I can honestly say I’ve met 2 people that are still in my life today that would go out of their way to help me even if it put them in a poor position. And I consider myself blessed to have 1 let alone 2 of these people here for me. The reason so many people are unsatisfied with their own lives today is because everyone is so focused on themselves. When I go out of my way for these 2 people it gives me a sense of happiness that I can’t get any other way even doing something twice as good for myself. If you could go out of your way once in a while and then possibly make a habit of it to help others that you don’t necessarily have to the world as we know it would be a better place. It all starts with you though, each individual must play his or her part to fix the society we live in today to make for a better tomorrow. You could start with small things like just working with individuals if u see they could use your help and work up to helping you’re community and maybe even larger on after that but with people doing things like this it helps in other aspects of society as well. People are more willing to trust someone if they go out of their way in ways like this their also more likely to join if they see their not the first one. People are always looking to follow the right thing but no one is willing to leap out and do the right thing first and lead. If you hold any type of leadership role over anyone these are the things that need to be shared to lead by example. To many officials say one thing then do the other and that also needs to come to a stop but again it all starts with you. All ages races and gender can lead in fact we need that if we don’t have everyone contributed to the cause it can never fully be a success and in that case we will never reach our full potential as a society. And even if you don’t care maybe your kids will and do you want them growing up in a hard unforgiving place or a place rather where they can be welcomed and helped rather than out on their own. It’s all up to you.

I agree with what you have to say everyone nowadays seems to just be focused on themselves and don't care what other people around them are doing. Many turn out this way because of things that have happened to them in the past. They are scared to try new things as well because they are scared they are going to be made fun of which has become the sad truth of our society we all want to see a change but trying get people all to change is the most difficult challenge we face.

I have been finding it harder and harder to find things to talk about on here the more freedom we get. I am finding it so hard to balance school work and a social life. Trying to afford all my bills is slowing draining me more and more everyday. How does everyone else do it? I am exhausted and washed. I keep making bad decisions and choosing going out over class and I hate myself for it every time, but still continue to do it? It is this stupid reoccuring internal issue as I am sitting here at 11:49 trying to write this as fast as possible just to make it on time. As always. I need to learn to prioritize apparently. I live so far from my parents and its hard trying to adjust to this newly found independence I have. I know my grades are slipping but I find it hard to even care. I have lost interest for so many things as of lately. I am in this weird funk and all I care about is trying to forget the problems of my life by having as much “fun” as possible. I visited my friend at Fischer last night instead of doing this blog, my math homework and an essay. I am obviously ashamed of myself but will I keep making these bad choices? Probably. I dont even really know where I am trying to go with this. I just always see myself slipping up when I have the time to do what needs to be done. Maybe its the newly found independence I have from moving away from my parents only one year ago? But the worst part is that I am most definately too old to need my parents telling me to do what I need to do. I decided to go to my friends college last night instead of doing my blog, my math homework and an essay. For what? To have a good time. I am aware  of the bad decisions I am making but it is like I am numb to caring for anything these days. I put in half the effort I could and still dont really care. I try to find any certain kind of satisfaction to avoid the responsibilities and goals I set for myself. Like I said, I dont really know where Im going with this. Today, when I got home from St. John Fisher, all I could think about was the huge amount of crap I could have gotten done for myself rather than go out and party. But even then, Im still here rushing to get this done. I erased half of my blog on accident about 7 minutes ago and its like this bad karma for always putting my shit off till the last minute. I hate myself for it but things never change and old habits die hard I guess.

I can definitely relate to this post because there have been numerous occasions where I have put off doing the blogs or reading journals until last minute forcing me to rush through them. I always promise myself that i'm not going to do it again but then once again find myself in the same position. My parents used to yell at me all the time in high school to get my work done and now they tell me I have to grow up and learn for myself because they aren't going to be there to make the decisions for me my entire life, it makes me wish I was a little kid all over again.

Growing up

A big part of growing up is making mistakes and learning from them (hopefully). If we didn't make mistakes we wouldn't be where we are today, if you didn't give that boy your number in freshman English that might not have been the person that you love the most today. Or if you didn't study hard for your last exam you wouldn't have to worry about taking a class over again. Mistakes are unavoidable and are bound to follow you wherever you go. I made a huge mistake I met a boy who said all of the right things and was in and out of my life since 6th grade, we went to the same college after where he joined a sports team and met lots of new people where I just kind of went to class then went home not wanting to stay longer than I had to, he had told me how much he liked me the summer before our freshman year of college. I was kinda hesitant on allowing him to become apart of my life, my family problems were at an all time high and I didn't want to drag someone into that. Seeing all these problems occur with my parents though had made me scared to get into a relationship myself because you either marry that person or break up. He continued to fight for my attention all of Freshman year and I didn't give any attention back until last March when I realized that I really do like him and that not all relationships are like my parents. I told him that I had feelings back but I wasn't ready to get into a relationship yet, he understood but it still upset him. He knew exactly how to sweet talk his way into things and to pick me up when I'm upset and to just make me smile and I really liked that about him. Finally in June I agreed to be his girlfriend but constant problems were showing up which tore us apart stressing both of us out he then started to talk to other girls while still in a relationship with me which I didn't have a problem with until I saw that he was ditching me, lying to me, and just not caring about me anymore and it made me really upset because I was hesitant about relationships the whole time. Turns out that he was seeing other girls while seeing me at the same time, I left him immediately and had no intentions on turning back until he sweet talked his way back into my heart and I broke down giving him another chance just for the same thing to happen again. Moral of the story is everything happens for a reason, and I believe that this relationship was something I needed, something I had to experience so I know that I never want to get into another relationship like that again. Now broken up I kind of giggle seeing him so upset that he lost me but he did it to himself so it's time to move on to someone better than him.

Blog #8

Today at work a customer came up to the service desk saying that someone had parked right in the middle of the parking lot causing traffic to now flow on the one side putting other cars and customers at risk. I walked outside not only to write the license plate down but to see this car parked in the middle of the parking lot. I got outside and immediately people were walking up to me making smart remarks, asking if this was my car, if I was hit and if I was okay. Each customer that asked the question I giggled a little bit then told them was I believed had happened "the car broke down and the owner was inside making a call to someone". Then I came back inside to page the license plate and more people had stopped me to explain the situation going on outside, I told them we are aware and taking care of the car. We paged the license plate and asked the owner to come to the service desk. A few minutes later a little old woman came up to the desk saying that it was her car and if everything was okay. We told her that she parked her car in the middle of the parking lot causing lots of problems with customers and other cars. She then denied that it was her car because she was convinced that she had parked in a handicapped spot. We then paged the plate again thinking maybe it belongs to a different customer, nobody came up. One of my co-workers was sent outside to play "traffic cop" directing the cars around the car to try and reduce the risk of an accident. Still waiting for a different customer to come up the old lady approached the desk again describing what her car looked like, everything she said matched the car description. I told her how I believed that it was her car and if she could go move it. She proceeded to the registers and cashed out then walked outside to her car parked in her own "imaginary handicapped spot" simply not caring that she parked in the middle of the lot. This brought up the question should the elderly stop driving at her certain age given their health and mental state. Other people who had heard about what happened made old jokes and laughed it off. I believe that there should be an age that you cannot drink anymore if your mental state of mind is not at the best that it should have been. Saying that maybe the amount of accidents that happen each year would decrease due to everyone not trying to go out of their way to pass the car that is going 10 under the speed limit or not making that right hand turn on red. There should be a point where people say okay others are at risk here time to think of a different solution to getting places other than driving.

Blog 4

Almost 25 years ago on November 24th my parents got married they lived in a small apartment in Buffalo where they brought both my sister and I home from the hospital. We grew up driving to Myrtle Beach every summer. Each year we took our family picture on the beach and would send it out to everyone saying "Merry Christmas!" it became a tradition that we all looked forward to every year. My sister now 22 is beginning to become her own independent person she moving out spending time with her boyfriend and just enjoying her life. I never really got along with my sister as a little girl we always fought over toys and if it was my shirt or her shirt. It was always a battle with her and it always seemed like my parents took her side because she was older and wiser. The beginning of last year we both began to see a shift in our family that lead to my parents getting a divorce leaving me in a house where my parents were constantly fighting making coming home something I began to not look forward to. I realized that even though I didn't want to go home I could go visit my sister and it brought us a lot closer to each other. Now I feel that it isn't just me that is going through it alone that I can always go to my sister, even though it is very saddening to go through I built a great relationship with my sister that I never had before. Although the tradition of going to the beach has stopped and our family dynamic is not the same my parents have been getting along a lot better and they seem happier which makes us all able to hope that sometime along the road when my sister and I both have families of our own we can start the tradition of going to the beach again or going somewhere else. As many have told me “It has to get worse to get better” we have made it through the worst and working on the better! It was a big adjustment at first but I was surrounded by many others that have gone through the same experience that knew how to make me feel better and how to look at the positives.

Thank you Dad

Today I was sitting at a stop light waiting for the light to turn green to continue my journey to work. I noticed that the lights at the intersection was changing and that I should prepare to begin accelerating soon. As I went to step on the gas I noticed that my dad was calling me so I hesitated and said "he can wait until I get to work". By that time our light had changed cars I the opposite direction for the most part had slowed down to a stop and we can begin to go. A white Chevy Cruze sped up thinking they can make it through the intersection without a problem but the car next to me with a young couple in it was already in motion. The next 12 seconds flew before my eyes the car was struck and people were already flying out of there cars to make sure everyone was alright. Fortunately nobody was severely injured, the air bag in the Cruze came out and the young couple were complaining that their heads hurt from hiding the side windows. I sat in my own seat for a few seconds realizing that it could have been me in that situation but instead I took the extra second to look at who was calling me and how different my life could have been. The driver who struck the couple did not move from the drivers seat because he knew that he was in the wrong and was going to get in trouble for it. Once the cops showed up they started to ask the witnesses around them what had happened if the driver seemed drunk or if he was on my phone. The police officer was asking questions and I told him that it could have been me out there but instead I hesitated and this innocent couple had to deal with the consequences which lead him to the next question he asked, "what was going through my mind when I decided to hesitate?" and I told him that my phone was raining and I checked to see who it was. He said "I do not condone driving and talking on the phone but it seems to me that your dad could have just saved your life". I soon after called my dad crying tears of happiness knowing that even when I am not near him he is still always looking out for me even if he was just calling to tell me I have to stop and get milk on my way home from work.

cell phones are a problem

I realize in today’s society that cell phones are a problem. Sometimes I wish I knew how to make cell phones because I know the inventor is now a billionaire. I notice that most individuals use the phone as a prop or a  way to hide who they truly are. For example, a lot of girls on campus use the phone so when you try to look them in the eyes as you pass them; they have something else to look at. I also know that people look at their phones as if its a life line to their (100)success. I understand that to a certain extent because of the false dreams people give out on social media etc. My parents always tell me to this day that if cell phones wasn’t a problem; the world would be a better place. They tell me this because the world doesn’t have to take place in our phones. The world has alot to offer when you truly pay attention. Its a beautiful thing but sadly most of us miss out on so much because we feel as if were important on social media or elsewhere. I feel as if everyone is faking each (200)other out with self pnones also. I’m really talking about phone apps such as twitter, facebook, instagram, snapchat etc. Phones cause these problems because their hand held and you can be on it 24/7. Therefore, you don’t have to go on a laptop or computer when you get home or when you find a comfortable space to relax. Social media allows people to feel as if their a celebrity or some higher power when in reality their not. I call this the “two-faced system” for us young adults/teenagers. For example, a person in reality can have bad ache(300) but on the internet they can look like a model with filters. Have anybody thought that maybe even dating would be easier without cell phones? I advise people to think about it because if a individual is distracted on their phones or text messages daily; then how can they possibly be loyal? I realize that most people can’t live without cell phones and its sad. Phones are distractions if not being used the right way such as calling or interacting over the phone. People can miss the love of their life (future wifes, husbands, etc) just by looking down at a phone that doesn’t give you anything but a bill monthly.  Cell phones really are a problem.

I agree cell phones are a big problem and now that cell phones are becoming better the problem is only going to expand. Not only are people putting filters on their pictures to hide who they really are but they are also saying things to others that they are to afraid to say in person due to the retaliation, there is a rule on my house that there are no cell phones allowed at the dinner table. When everyone goes to sit down and eat dinner we are listening to each other's day and not listening to the latest news about any celebrity or band out there

I’M BACK 102

Rainer Maria Rilke once said “Confess to yourself in the deepest hour of the night whether you would have to die if you were forbidden to write. Dig deep into your heart, where the answer spreads its roots in your being and ask yourself solemnly, must I write?” I came across this quote couple years ago when I was in high school. I was deciding on what to get for my first tattoo and then came across this snippet from one of his poems. I hold this quote close to me because writing was my only escape when I was younger. It separated me from the other students that I went to school. Some kids have hobbies and talents, such as basketball or singing; mine was writing.

Does one believe that all writers are perfect? I am one to say, that all writers are not perfectionists. Everyone makes mistakes, especially writers. For example, if they decide cowrite on one topic and then decides to change the direction of the piece of writing. As I writer, I believe that my biggest problem is writer’s block. I can write creatively where I have no direction and get all my thoughts out on paper. However, if a topic or discussion is thrown in my direction, that is when I get stuck and do not know what to write. I tend to have a lot of thoughts when it comes to writing if it is an interesting topic. On the other hand, when I am faced with a difficult topic and do not know how to write, I get stuck and lose of words. As a communicator, I believe that I am well versed when it comes to that area. I am a peoples person and very outgoing. Being a part of student government, that allows me to be interactive and personal with my fellow peers and administration.

Outside of being a student, I like to do things that involve being active and being with my loved ones. Who doesn’t love shopping? I am the first to say that I am addicted to retail. I love to travel with my friends and family. My favorite country is Cancun. I experienced things that I never thought that I would be encountered with. For example, I had the opportunity of jumping off of a cave with bats into 60 feet of water. It was a bit scary at first, but after the first 3 times I loved the adrenaline that it gave me. No matter what other activities I am involved in, writing will always be my first love. Writing allows me to be myself and speak my mind. It is my escape from the real world and those around me. Going back to the quote that I started my essay with, I shall always write until my fingers are broken.

Whenever I am told to write about something my mind goes blank and I don't know what to write but if I just sit down to write I could write forever as well. Adrenaline can help form some of the greatest stories, everyone wants to hear about how you did something exciting not about how you chickened out on something! Shopping is a big problem with every girl looking nice comes with a big price and a low balance in your bank account.

Well let me start off by introducing myself my name is Nautica. “Yes like the famous clothing line”. I am a very outgoing person. I spend most of my days hanging out with friends and partying. An addition to that, I work two jobs as well.Over the summer I saved up, my pay checks to travel and see mesmerizing sights. During this time I realized, I might declare my major as a traveling nurse. But as of right now I am still, an undeclared student at Buffalo State College. I am 19, with a lot of charisma. My favorite food is Spanish, and Italian food, I could eat that for days. I have five brothers and sisters total. I’m the middle child.  My family is very close, we spend most holidays in various vacation spots. For example V.A, ATL, Florida etc. I found Florida the most exciting. Orlando studios was a blast. I enjoy heart reaching rides.  You could say I am a dare at heart.Furthermore, other interesting things about me is I love to read, and learn new things. Before I came to Buffalo State College, my passion was writing. I wanted to be a journalist. English throughout high school was my strongest subject. At that time I imagined that I one day I would work for the New York Times. Also I even thought about writing in a fashion magazine like Seventeen, or Vogue. But when I came to college my views on writing as a profession slowly timbered. I believe college had taken away the fun of writing.In other words I hope in this CWP class I will be able to create well-structured essays that are interesting to the whole class. Not only that but topics that we all can relate to. For example politics, and racism. Recently over the weekend I experienced first hand, racism, alive and well. My friends and I were at a restaurant, where the waitress implied we should move to the back. Furthermore she said horrible things to me and my peers. She even said “I hit her”. The realization at this point had dawned on me that these types of public issues need to be addressed. I feel these types of topics are happening right now in society for example “black lives matter” but shouldn’t “ALL lives matter”. Topics like these I look forward to being discussed in class.

I saved up all of my paychecks over the summer as well, not to travel but to pay for school and get a new car it was tough because I put myself on a budget when hanging out with friends and a limit on buying food which was the hardest, Florida is one of my favorite places to visit my family and I go down to all the time to go to the beaches and visit Disney! I hope we discuss those topics in class they are topics that have many opinions!

Who am I?

I’m not a writer, but I can write. I write all the time, I write for school. I write music. I write every day but I’m not a writer. I was a three-sport varsity player in high school playing football, basketball, and baseball. Football was my life, it was an everyday grind and I always left it all on the field. Basketball gave me some of the greatest memories of all time. I helped put a championship banner on the wall. I’ve built bonds with my teammates that can never be broken. I’ve stolen bases, hit home runs and struck out plenty… it taught me a lot. I still play basketball to this day; I also spend a lot of my time at the gym. Am I an athlete? No probably not. Like any other college student, I enjoy spending time with friends. Laughing, partying and having fun. But I don’t even drink so I can’t be a party animal.  I love to sing, produce, play or even just listen to music. Everything I do requires music. Maybe I’m a musician…nope not that either. I’m supposed to be introducing myself here but there’s a big problem… I’m not even sure who I am yet. I’m still trying to figure that out. Maybe I am a writer, Maybe I am an athlete, Maybe I’m just here to party, or maybe I’m just waiting for my big break as a musician. One thing I can say is maybe I’m just a work in progress…. When I find out who I am ill be sure to let you know…

College is the place where you are supposed to find out who you are and what you want to do with life, I used to think that I wanted to be a teacher but now that i’m older I see that it might not be something I want anymore. I agree that being on sports teams builds life long friendships because you find that you can relate more to those people. Can’t to find out who you are!

Blogging

I have never blogged before and I have never felt the urge to start blogging but now that I have to create weekly blogs for my writing class in college I am willing to give Tumblr a try. All my life ever since I was a little girl I grew up playing sports they were always a big part of my life, I had intentions to play in college then my life took a turn and was injured I tore 3 ligaments in my ankle and haven't been able to get them fixed. This injury has prevented me from playing for college but since then I have joined a bar league and have made some great friends who also have been through similar struggles. When we play we are out there to have fun, it's not all about winning and getting first place. Without sports in my life many of the opportunities I have had places I have been to or friendships I have made. Each year my family my family takes a trip to Florida at the same time, but this summer was the first summer that was different my parents got a divorce so it was a year of a bunch of firsts who to spend holidays with where to spend all of my time, it also brought a bunch of questions like what if it was something I did that caused the divorce or what if I could have done something to prevent the divorce? After countless questioning my parents said that there is nothing my sister and I could have don't to help them it was a mutual decision and did what was in our best interest, after years of listening to kids I grew up with complaining about how they are tired of going back and fourth from their moms to their dads or having to meet their parents new significant other, I understand how they feel. It is difficult to maintain a good relationship with both parents while trying to show them that I have not chosen a side. Although it's been a difficult year I'm excited to see how the future will work out, hopefully for the better and even though I have been experiencing a rough path it has to get worse before it can get better.
