        “Sounds like crap,”  he immediately replied without a second thought, without a moment of hesitation.  “I- I thought we were going to have a normal day. You know, since we can’t seem to catch a– a break?”  There was disappointment weighing in Junior’s tone. But already he was mentally preparing for a trip to the hardware store. Whatever Mandy says, goes. He had learnt that at an early age and it didn’t change even after ten years.

        After he gave his response, the teen lolled out his eerie, long, and serpentine tongue out to get in a deep lick of the cone of vanilla ice cream. Mlleeeeemmmmm.

     “Normal is a relative term. Besides, I’m not expecting you to wrangle in any demons.” 

     She catches a glimpse of him drawing out his tongue, rolling her eyes. Grim had plenty of demonic entities stored within the objects of that trunk of his. It wasn’t like it was hard to steal them. She just needed the help with the set up. There was even a location she had in mind. Close to wear the sidewalk ends.

     “Think of it as a prank.” Though it was borderline an evil scheme for psychological torture. The intention was more to get Junior to lose that budding attitude, “Isn’t that a normal activity for petty high schoolers? We can even make a movie night out of the results. Everyone wins.”

        “God, yes. That’d be so wonderful,”  Junior sighed, tilting his head back against the red leather seat he sat upon. A mutual hatred for Mindy was definitely something that got major brownie points. Junior abhorred her, but never found a good enough reason to mangle her bones and twist her into something inhuman.  “Or just booby-trap an entire house. Like Saw, or The Collector. No, a building.”

        After a moment, the car above proceeded, allowing Junior to pull up to the menu and the speaker, to which he patiently awaited for a receiving voice upon the other end.  “… Think I’ll go for a bowl of mint-chocolate ice cream.”

        After their orders were placed and their sweets received, Junior had parked the car under the shade of a large tree in the parking lot of Dairy King, where the two ate their food in the comfort of his air-conditioned car.

        “We should do this more often. How’s the cake?”

     “It’s alright.”

     The words slip out with slight distraction. Spoon tapping lightly as she’s mildly lost in thought from her previous idea. Another bite was absentmindedly taken of decadent dessert. A list was being compiled in her head both of reasons for a bit of petty revenge and supplies necessary to enact it. There were quite a few reasons to go through with such an idea (beyond just the grim dark enjoyment of Mindy’s mortified face) and nothing particularly acting as a deterrent. That was simply it--

     When her mind became set on something, there wasn’t going to be much standing in her way.

     “Change of plans for tonight. How does a visit to the hardware store sound to you.”

     She’d need to make some calls.

Mandy shows actual care or affection to very few living things in general. One of the lucky ones is her dog, Saliva. An overweight drooling mutt who she’s had since youth. He’s a bit older now but still quite energetic. If anyone were to touch her dog not only would they lose a hand, they’d lose an entire arm.

        With a clearly forced bored tone of voice, the teen lifted a lazy finger into the air, just as he pulled into a drive-through of a Dairy King behind another vehicle.  “Ding ding ding. Congratulations, Mandy. You won a prize - One free order from Dairy King.”  Now that they were presently in the drive-through, Junior found it most suitable to roll down the window on his side, while completely turning off the music that played over the radio.

        “… You know what I want? A horror movie or a thriller where they do everything right, but they still all die. Nobody trips while running, everyone bars the doors, they all stick together… But they all still die.”

     “Morbid. I’d probably pay to see it.” She leans back in her seat after a moment, “Royal New York Cheesecake.”  Is recited after a brief look of the menu just past the car ahead of them. Mind wanders for a moment, “Then again, even bad horror movies have their merits. They’re easy to make...fairly entertaining. Get a few cameras, commandeer an old, decrepit house, lure in Mindy and her flock with some cheap makeup...”

     Shoulder roll back as she relaxes, “Leave them locked in there with a few poltergeists until morning and collect the footage. Maybe toss in a haunted doll. Cheap easy entertainment with a minimal amount of work.”

     One would think she may be concerned about a few casualties but that was a worry for someone who didn’t personally have a collar and leash around Death’s throat.

        “Are people really that petty,”  inquired the eldritch teen, taking a turn down the main street which lead straight uptown where most chain restaurants did their business. The soft purring of the vehicle’s engine as well as the gentle orchestral and classical music playing over the radio did well to mask the awkward silences in their conversations.

        “At least it makes modicum of sense, unlike most thrillers and horror films lately. I saw Unfriended a– a couple days ago. It’s about this… Mysterious presence haunting a group of high schoolers that were in some way responsible for a classmate’s death. And it all looks like it’s on some kind of Skype call.”

        “… I’d give it a three out of five.”  Well that got him talking.

     “Is that really a question?” 

     She would curse someone for less. A silent glance in his direction before looking out at the passing scenery as the car rolled passed the same stores and restaurants that littered this part of Endsville. Practically an entire street dedicated to greasy heart attack inducing food and penny pinching store branches begging to please their corporate bosses. What better place to spend their time.

     “Let me guess. Most likely a girl. Blackmailed or otherwise humiliated. Collective bullying. Shaming. High school society driving her to take her own life before her vengeful spirit comes to claim theirs in gruesome and vindictive fashion.” She was sure she was on the nose here, “Tell me I’m wrong.”

        Lowering the volume upon his car’s radio as Mandy spoke, Junior gave a distinct nod of the head, affirming Mandy’s hopes.  “Oh yeah, definitely. I’d like a normal day for once in this cesspool of a city.”  Presently, they were on their way to grab some ice-cream to beat the summer heat, and eat it within his nice, air-conditioned vehicle in the parking lot. Ice cream always tasted better when distributed through machines inside select chain restaurants, one of which happening to reside here in Endsville.

        “So. Did you see any fun movies lately?”

     "I watched a movie called ‘Drag Me to Hell’ recently. It’s about a loan officer who has to foreclose an old gypsy woman’s house and gets cursed to damnation for simply doing her job.”

     Small talk wasn’t her most ideal way to start a conversation, but with Junior she at least had a bit more tolerance. The boy actually knew how to hold a conversation as compared to some of the people she was surrounded with. Fingers drum silently against the car door as she continues with her melancholic drawl.

     “The escalation of horror and her pitiably declining situation was fun to watch.”

     “It took about three rolls of duct tape but it should be a relatively peaceful afternoon for once.” She felt further context wasn’t necessary. After all, they both had the same overly loud and disruptive acquaintance, “I assume there won’t be any interruptions from those on your end. I’m sure we’d both like one day separated from the eldritch and morbid.”

     Science? Now that was something that had a deep intrigue for her. Her experiences were primarily supernatural in nature but this...this opened up possibilities. Possibilities that she would have imagined someone would want to keep under lock and key.

     “A teleporter, huh?” 

     Alternate universes. She had dabbled with these once or twice before though perhaps those bordered closer to alternative futures. Never visited but viewed from a distance. A voyeur of her own possible fates. She was beginning to hatch an idea... It wouldn’t hurt to humor the poor thing. The blonde tilts her head, cradling her cheek in one of her hands.

     “That’s quite an offer. You’d show me any world I asked?”

     She was sure this stranger was either stupid or far too trusting. Not nearly as bad as a certain large nosed boy she knew but equally as easily used to her benefits.

     “Alright. Calm down.”

      Far too pathetic for a demon though she’d admit she hasn’t met a monster yet that was all too impressive. Besides, Mandy would be able to tell if this stuttering mess of a girl was lying to her and given she looked about ready to pull her hair out, there wasn’t any doubts of the honesty in her reaction.

     “Explain the swirling green portal I saw.” She stared down at the younger girl but the atmosphere around them seemed to grow slightly less oppressive. The question was still more of a demand regardless, “If you’re not a creature from the Underworld where did you come from. And how.”
