"Maelstrom" (Crosshair x Angst)

Title: Maelstrom

Genre: Poetry/Angst

Premise: If his landing on Pabu was supposed to be the grand start to a much better life in freedom...how come it feels like a lovely grave instead?

Word Count: 302 words.

Special Notes: If there's anybody else out there besides me who got the feeling that there was a ton of passive-aggressive undertones to this entire series as well as a few of the 'loudest voices' in the fandom ("Crosshair should have died early on so the others could have a perfect life", "Anyone who doesn't act like Omega needs to die", etc), only to get the polar opposite of what was actually shown in the show all over social media (i.e. Crosshair ALWAYS thinks of CF99 but they NEVER think about him vs 'Everything's perfect on Pabu, they love each other so much'...well, then let's consider this a poetic answer written from the POV of Crosshair himself, even if it's just as a reminder that life is NOT always full of fluff and candy floss.

Also, Omega's not exactly given cameo appearances in this, but I hope mentioning her by name will be enough for this one-shot.

And third, maybe this could turn into an X Reader thing, maybe it won't...either way, I'm very thankful to get this out of my system at long last.

MAELSTROM

So you’ve looked me in the eyes and promised me “Safety”. The kind without hurricanes, waterspouts, tidal waves, and all other possible means of dying at sea.

But if I’ve already lost all desire or curiosity To ever go into the water, Does your promise of safety matter?

So what if you’ve offered me the chance of a massive break, The kind with no one to make me get straight back to work, or interrupt my next meal.

When I’ve already learned in spite of this island's abundance, That I won’t be allowed anything past the first bite, That even if some Imperial doesn’t slap it out of my hand, you certainly might... Do your island’s steady resources even matter?

And so what if you swear to me That I’m finally free to catch up on lost sleep, That nobody would dare to disturb me?

I already know that one of you will just haul me back into consciousness The moment you claim to “need something”, So truly, Do any of your silly “promises” even matter?

What is all of this for, I ask you And don't say “for Omega’s sake”, Because I still remember the time before this one, And how my saving her life Just made you want me to be shot down even more.

So once more, I will ask You…

Even if you’ve promised me this whole planet, All its islands, waters, and the sky above,

I can already be sure That I'm nothing but a monster upon this soil, Your monster,

And possibly even the one you need to destroy so that your precious little life can go back to being “normal” again…

So now tell me, When it takes only a matter of minutes To destroy an unarmed soldier…

Everyone saying that they want a “Clone Rebellion” Show which I have nothing against! Don’t get me wrong! I want it too!

But I desire more than just a Clone Rebellion

I want to see Clones grow up, I want to see them fight, I want to see what they do when they don’t fight

We are living the first days of Ramadan in Gaza.

While many families around the world are gathering for iftar with full tables and safety, this is our reality.

Here, hunger is not just part of fasting. It is daily life.

We fast from dawn until sunset, but the hardest part is not knowing if there will be anything to break it with.

My family wants to observe Ramadan like Muslim families everywhere. I wish I could comfort them by saying that a warm meal is waiting at sunset, like every fasting person deserves.

My father’s health is getting worse. He urgently needs medical care and proper nutrition.

Watching him grow weaker while we struggle to provide even basic food is heartbreaking.

Today, three journalists were killed in a single airstrike.

Not soldiers. Not fighters. Journalists. People who believed that if they kept documenting, if they kept filming, if they kept writing, the world would eventually care.

In Gaza, telling the truth has become one of the most dangerous things you can do. Holding a camera is treated like holding a weapon. Every photo risks your life. Every report could be your last.

They had names. Families. People waiting for them to come home. They were not numbers, and they were not mistakes. They were silenced because truth is inconvenient, because images expose what statements try to hide.

When journalists are killed, it’s not just lives that are lost it’s evidence. It’s memory. It’s the last barrier between reality and denial.
