Does New Bedford the Game seem silly to you? Well over 500 people disagree and want to get their hands on this board game about whale oiling. I live just outside of New Bedford and I know a thing or two about it's history, so when I first saw this kickstarter I smiled.
Honestly the video should have STARTED with the FUN GAMEPLAY stuff and less on the history and background, but watcha gonna do?

It's Christmas, Everybody! Vinyl record by the Silver Bells

Yay for NEW christmas songs. I'm a big fan of mixing new music with the old stuff on our yearly Christmas playlists and these songs seem pretty decent.
However, I DO think they're shooting themselves in the foot a bit with the low level rewards. Right now they have 8 $5 backers, which will get you a physical PIN that costs them money and they need to ship to you. For $10 you get a digital download of the music which costs them NOTHING extra and they don't have to ship to you. What would they have done with an influx of $5 backers? Seems like it might have ended up COSTING THEM MONEY lol.
Oh well, it seems to be working out well for them!

National Purebred Dog Day

I'll be honest, I always thought that the hype around "purebred breeds" of dogs was elitist malarkey. It's just a bunch of stuck up people bragging about stuff that really doesn't matter.
Recently I've had a change of heart. What makes a purebreed dog special is it's uniqueness and historical significance. The culture that breeded a each variation of dog is as different as the behavior and look of each of the resulting dogs.
So these guys are looking to create a website as a replacement for their existing facebook page.
Although, I have to say, I'm sure the "Purebred" sweaters will be a big hit with the KKK and Nazis.

This isn't me making some rude or crewel joke, this is a legit game grief stricken parents are making. There's no happy ending, there's no triumphant defeat, this is just a game that tell a story, their story.
It sort of reminds me of the indie PC game Facade that was marketed as an "interactive story" rather than a "game". It's a cool step towards videogames being accepted as a true artform by critics and a unique and interesting way to tell a heartbreaking story.

Folktales (which I like to think of as adult versions of fairy tales) are culturally significant. Each folktale and urban legent or myth says something everlasting about the human condition, and getting close to these metaphors can open your eyes to some deep human truths.
If I'm going to say this in another way, it's this: They're just freakin cool.
The Grimm tales especially have a cool vibe to them and these project owners have created a book by commissioning 27 up-and-coming artists to portray them in this book.
