Happy Caturday!
Bridget is still unhappy that I won’t open windows because of wildfire smoke so I explained to her that it boils down to lack of political will to address climate change and now she’s decided to run for public office.

for anyone who isn't aware, wnba players have been speaking out recently about the abuse they've been receiving online from sports betters who bet on them and weren't happy with the outcomes of the games. notably, chelsea gray blasted a guy who called her a racial slur because she didn't score as many points as he bet she would, and courtney williams posted a voice note of her response to a guy who said some absolutely vile stuff to her
i know most of the wnba fans on here are more casual watchers, but it's still something i think everyone who pays attention to the league should be aware of because it's astounding how many comments i've seen saying that the players should just suck it up because that comes with the territory and all athletes have to deal with it. while it's true that this problem is by no means unique to the wnba, that doesn't mean it's okay or that players should have to tolerate harassment and bigotry (i swear every single one of these comments is overtly racist, misogynistic, and/or homophobic)
if the league is going to openly endorse sports betting, partner with betting platforms, and actively promote betting during every single commercial break, then it NEEDS to also take measures to protect its players from the vitriol that betting inspires. personally i think it's incredibly fucked up that sports leagues are endorsing betting at all, but that's a conversation for another day. natasha cloud said it well when she was interviewed about it: if the wnba wants to endorse betting for the sake of financial growth, fine, but that cannot come at the expense of the players, and cathy needs to step up and protect them (in this way and so many more). elizabeth williams (secretary of the players’ association) said that there’s a meeting scheduled to discuss the issue with cathy soon, but i honestly don’t know how much we can expect to come from it
another history making marvel post I never see anyone talk about is “so is nobody helping blade kill all those vampires”

Having a whole living room wall full of decorative crosses and crucifixes in your house is the spiritual equivalent of consistently taking antibiotics "just in case" and washing your hands with bleach. Not only are you not making anything better for yourself, I'm pretty sure that you're making things way, way worse for everyone.
Religious OCD is a hell of a thing, it makes ya afraid of yourself and other people on every level, levels most people cant even imagine, and there is no escape, no relief, no way to feel okay, only sinking and scraping deeper and deeper and deeper into the same delusion that is eating you alive.
Well, washing your hands with bleach due to OCD is not good for you either.
I came across this article in the wall street journal and thought it might be helpful for some of my fellow spoonies
This post really hits home for me just how many of the things old people do is just disability accommodation
The Port Gamble S’Klallam Tribe made this card for their citizens to present to ICE.
If you are in a different federally recognized tribe in Washington State:
“I am a member of the (insert tribe here) Tribal Nation, which is Tribal Nation federally recognized by the United States.
This means I am also a United States citizen according to the U.S. Citizenship Act of 1924, 8 USC Section 1401.
Our tribe’s enrollment office number is (insert phone number here).
The Native American Rights Fund will assist me if you attempt to illegally detain me. Contact them at 303-447-8760”
Hello, tumblr! I saw something on here the other day that worried me, so I decided to Do Science about it. But I can't do it alone: I need your help to build the dataset!
Here's what I need you to do:
If you see a post with a "mature content" label, and it's 2026, DM me a link to the post.
Yes, that's really it.
I am hoping to collect several thousand such posts, so that I have a decent sized dataset. I do not care what the post is about; if it's labeled as "mature content", I want to add it to my dataset.
If I get 10,000 posts in my dataset before August 31st 2026, I will post my preliminary findings then. I won't feel comfortable calling my findings "settled" before 2027, unless I get over 50,000 posts.
Tumblr Science FAQ, round 1
What's your hypothesis, OP?
I am not talking about that unless I have results to share. That would bias the results.
I did write them down and I did share them with a trusted contact who can prove that I wrote them down the same day I made this post. (While I did so before I made this post, I am not sure they will be able to provide proof of that, because I did so on the same day.)
OP are you interested in...?
Do you have to click through to see the post? Does the clickthrough contain the words "mature content"? Then yes.
OP are you interested if the post is about...?
I am interested in the mature content labels, not the content of the post. Is there a clickthrough that contains the words "mature content"? Then yes.
Tumblr Science FAQ, round 2
Should I reblog this for reach?
Yes, please. I felt really silly when I noticed I forgot to include that in the original post.
Is it okay if I send you my own posts?
Yes, those are perfect for what I'm looking for. I actually need to do some processing on a post to make it useful for testing my hypothesis, and this makes it easy.
Are you looking for "potentially mature content" also, or just "mature content"?
I want both, please. Anything that throws up a blocking screen that you have to click through. The distinctions between them are one of the things I am hoping to study.
Does it matter when the post was made originally?
Technically no. There's no way to respond to this without introducing some bias in the results, and I don't want that. However, I do collect some data on a post as part of making it useful to me, and that data is easier to collect if the post is recent.
What if I request content label review on a post after I send it to you?
I need to see the mature content label to be able to use the post. Because the mature content label hides the content of the post, it is very hard to use a post that no longer has a mature content label. You could send me a screenshot, but people could use that to lie to me.
Basically, it's more work for you to make it usable to me.
OP are you a transphobe? It would ruin the experiment for me if you're a transphobe.
I promise I'm not a transphobe and not doing this for transphobic reasons. You should still double-check that I'm not a transphobe for yourself, though. I am not sure that this study will have the useful effects you're hoping for; I am studying something specific, and it may not be what you hope.

My basic thing is "If your definition of capitalism could also describe the economy of ancient Sumeria, then it's not a good definition"
People will correctly identify that heteronormativity is a problem in old historiography and then immediately turn around and insist that two people must be having sex based on transgressive social intimacy. Then say something like "because sex is a human need for fulfillment."
Ah if only there was more than one kind of normativity to keep in mind....
This isn't exclusive to same sex attraction or love either. Anyone who digs into Empress Elisabeth's writings enough will find pretty clear statements about being apathetic (or disinclination) to physical intimacy and fulfillment from totally separate parts of her life.
We can't assume that people's highest fulfillment comes from having sex with the people they love. I wish we could have more nuance about this.
I really liked your blog but I'm going to go ahead and block you because if you can't say that you don't support genocide then you support genocide. It is that simple.
I did say that, several times in several ways, because it does happen to be the case.
Hey, folks: taking a daring stance here and coming down hard against genocide. Also not a fan of torture, war crimes, slaughter of civilians, rape, abuse, brutality, deprivation of necessities, removing people from their homes, destroying their homes, starving them, or denying them any human rights. Actually, I don't like bombs. Or drones. Or military organizations. Or the existence of controlled borders.
There's lots of other things I don't like, but I'm trying to keep it simple, because you seem like you've been perhaps not reading what I'm writing.
Hope that helps !
There's a reason why I've been saying for the last nearly-three-years that, with the way these people overuse, overextend, and exaggerate the definition of "genocide", then, by the same metrics, a traffic light counts as involuntary, state-sanctioned detention and prohibition of free movement.
I think, in particular, OP, there's a comparison that you'll agree with.
Do you remember when Derik Chauvin was charged with murder in the second degree for murdering George Floyd, and a bunch of the commentariat lost their minds at how it wasn't "Aggravated Murder In The First Degree With Extra Rehensibleness and pickles on the side!"? And there were a bunch of legal-minded bloggers like yourself patiently explaining that, no, "degrees of murder" has to do with premeditation and intent, not brutality? And they got blown off by said commentariat who were upset that the charges weren't using the most overblown and emotionally satisfying words possible, instead of accurate ones?
Yeah. Same thing here, I think. What do you think?
That, and people like anon aren't actually looking for a rejection of the concept of genocide.
So I do 3D modeling and printing as a hobby, and a few weeks ago I designed wheel guards meant to prevent office chairs from running over cables and clothes... or your pet's tail.
I got the idea from cowcatchers old locomotives used to have.
Anyways, yesterday I uploaded the model to Thingiverse, and just hours after uploading it, the Community Relationship Manager of the whole website left a comment suggesting I enter the model into a competition that's currently being held on the site.
So I did... and now it's in third place not even a day later. First place is $500, but the competition still has a month to go.
Then the Community Manager contacted me again, telling me they want to feature my model in an upcoming design promotion.
Just, what is happening? I mostly made this thing for myself in, like, an hour, and now it's suddenly super popular? This is all a little bit overwhelming 😵💫
Other models I worked on for weeks didn't get nearly as popular. I swear, it's impossible to predict what people will like.
Anyways, if you want to print the wheel guards yourself, you can get the model here or here.
I also made a quiet version you can stick furniture felt pads on.
People love simple, extremely practical things. I hope you win!
