Liam shook his head about her parents’ divorce. “I should’ve thought of that as a possibility. Full offense, it sounds to me like your mother had a lot of grounds for divorce.” He shrugged slightly. “I’ve never been much of a gambler, so I can’t relate. Though I really don’t want to be able to follow your father’s line of thinking.”
He tilted his head, curious. “And what was your dream?” He managed to laugh. “Yeah, I’ve got charm coming out of my a—ears.” His brows raised. “So, there’s no Heathcliff type to come on a white horse to your rescue?” He shook his head. “I ‘spose that’s more Mr. Darcy?”
He considered her question.“I spent a lot of time consciously trying to avoid being dragged into this kind of mess for the last 30 years or so. As you can see, I was wildly successful. Never was much of a student, though I ‘spose you can tell I did read a book or two. I drifted around a lot for a while, odd jobs; fixing things, manual labor, farm work. I was finally thinking maybe it was time to grow up and settle down somewhere, but this really wasn’t the way I wanted to do it. ‘Guess I should’ve put more effort into getting somebody who’d miss me.”
Jayden looked over at him and smiled softly, nodding. “Yeah, she did.” she said and watched him as he spoke. She couldn’t really speak about following her father’s line of thinking, she didn’t want to be anywhere near his mindset. At the question of her dream, she couldn’t help but smile, shaking her head some. Talking about her dream really made her happy.
She giggled a bit at his comment. “Charming Liam Darcy?” she said and looked over at him. “My dream is to be an artist, actually. Well, I should say that is my ultimate goal. If I have to settle for doing that as my hobby on the side, or doing freelance things on the side of a regular day job, I’d do it.” she said.
She normally didn’t tell people about her love of art, she was used to people telling her that she needed a more realistic goal. Well, everyone but her mother. Jayden looked up at him and smirked, shaking her head. “Well, at least you don’t have to show off your muscles on the farm.” she teased a bit. He seemed nice enough, just a bit sarcastic. “What about you? What’s your dream?” she asked him boldly.
