You don’t need to be better than any one else you just need to be better than you used to be.
Wayne W. Dyer
soft reminder: you’re enough. improving yourself is amazing, but it can get unhealthy if you feel like you’re worthless otherwise. you’re already enough and worthy and lovable, even now. working on self-love and acceptance is the most important thing. often the dream version of yourself that seems sparkly and inspiring won’t meet your true needs, and it won’t magically make you happy or fix everything. what you need most is love from yourself, and it starts from within. enhance yourself instead of replacing yourself.
“Someone will come along. Someone who understands that you get jealous and anxious. Someone who knows the fears you have rooted deep in your past and holds you when you’re feeling scared. Someone who can’t dance but dances with you anyway. They can’t sing but they’ll sing to you anyway. They’ll love any gift you give even when it’s the wrong size and they’ll love anything you cook for them even when it’s burnt. They’ll make you laugh until you cry and know exactly what to say to make you smile. They’ll leave you feeling helplessly unapologetically happy as you fall asleep at night. You’ll wonder how you ever got so lucky. Just be patient. Someone will come along.” - The Minds Journal
as much as i appreciate the intent of the “being disabled doesn’t make you a burden” type posts, i don’t really agree. a lot of times being disabled DOES make you a burden
& i think that maybe we should try to shift focus to the fact that even if you’re a huge burden on society and can contribute absolutely nothing, you’re still a human being who deserves to exist.
like. there’s nothing morally wrong with being a burden on other people. you aren’t a bad person for needing to rely on others. you’re allowed to be a burden & disabled people who are burdens on others, i love you
don’t feel bad for feeling sad or anxious. you don’t need to have a valid reason, emotions are messy. sometimes the only thing that can help is resting, and taking care of yourself. do little things that make you feel calmer. express strong emotions in ways that don’t hurt yourself in any form. stay healthy and well-rested and surround yourself with things that are good for you. be there for yourself. this will pass.
How to express tenderness towards yourself
treat mundane activities like grocery shopping as adventures
make playlists for every feeling you can feel
give yourself quiet days to read and pass time slowly
keep a journal, a nonperfomative place to express yourself
reduce your screen time; use your screens mostly for inspiration
create more than you consume
have a place where you can run free and feel the wind rushing
do things that make you happy even if they seem childish
A few things about: Loneliness
i. being lonely isn’t bad. we’re hardwired to want touch and emotional connection. being lonely is human.
ii. everyone is lonely. the girl on the bus. the guy who’s posting his amazing life on instagram. the celebrity, the friend, the parent, the popular, the shy, the cat, everybody. yet few people would admit it or even say the word. no one is too good for loneliness.
iii. loneliness isn’t something bad. avoiding it is like avoiding sadness or anger; it will manifest into addiction, desperate attempts at crumbs of connection. feel loneliness in its purest form. maybe it’s an ache, a thirst in your throat, a colour of anxiety. sit with it. mother it.
iv: when you’re lonely and truly have no one, everything will be warmth. everything will be a friend. from the houseplant you’re nurturing, to the chamomile tea in your body, your bed, the guitar in your arms. this too is a full life. a good one. a precious one.
v. loneliness will tell you to reach out. that you’re okay and it’s a matter of timing. or it will tell you you’re repulsive, unloveable and weird. loneliness is a child, an emotion. it tries to make sense of its painful situation with both truth and lies. not everything should be believed. but not everything is unwise.
vi: your needs are important, and if you can’t reach out to a physical being, reach out into an outlet: music, writing, art, nature. make your mugs and pillows your friend. make your books your friend. if it comforts you, have it in your life as much as possible.
something that i’m working on is letting things exist without justification. for example, i gained weight recently and i don’t need a reason for it. it’s not “it’s okay because it’s mostly muscle” or “it’s okay because it was while i was on vacation.”
it’s okay regardless.
How to Forgive Yourself
1. Recognise the importance of forgiving yourself. Not forgiving yourself will deplete your energy, and leave you feeling all chewed up inside. It keeps you living in the past instead of living in the present – so it’s hard to make the most of what is happening today.
2. Recognise the effects of not forgiving yourself. Those negative emotions like shame and regret are also bad for our long term health – as they undermine and damage a healthy immune system.
3. Name the emotions you are struggling with. Simply naming your emotions can help reduce their power. It brings some order and control into our lives again when we’re hit by overwhelming and negative emotions.
4. Reflect on the fact that we all make mistakes, make foolish decisions and act badly at times. It’s part of being human. You’re an imperfect person. We all do stupid things, and say some things that we regret.
5. Try to let go of other people’s expectations. We can’t please everyone. It’s simply not going to happen. Decide on your own standards, then try to live by them. Also, if you’re looking for approval you’ll never measure up as you’ll always meet someone who will criticise and judge.
6. Practise self-forgiveness. It’s healthy to acknowledge the regrets that you have – but then you need to be willing to let go of the past. You can decide to move forwards, and to live life differently.

Tips for Building a Healthy Self-Esteem
1. Pay attention to any physical needs.
2. Carve out relaxation time.
3. Spend time with people who like you, and who get you.
4. Take time to feel proud of the things you have achieved.
5. Decide and enforce healthy boundaries.
6. Allow yourself to openly disagree with others.
7. Decide on your own goals – and then go after these.
8. Allow yourself to fail, and sometimes make mistakes.
Struggling with hygiene or taking care of yourself overall does not impact your worth! You are worthy, regardless of what you can and can’t do on any given day.

not every day is the same, but please, when you're feeling down try to do something that cheers you up even if that's the last thing you want to do. it doesn't have to be anything extraordinary. if you like going to a bookstore, then do it! go to the library, grab your headphones and go on a walk, or just sit on a bench listening to music. go read a book somewhere nice, just buy yourself a nice drink or a sweet treat, or maybe have a good cry while going on a walk. in the end it might not work, but maybe it will. and at least you still did something nice for yourself!
As the year is ending soon... this is your friendly reminder that you didn’t waste your year. any moments of happiness or comfort, any small accomplishments, they all matter. this has been a really hard year, and simply surviving is something to be proud of. 🤎
