United Nations International Day of Commemoration of Victims of the Holocaust

Today marks the United Nations International Day of Commemoration of Victims of the Holocaust. For only the third time in its history, there will be a Romani/Sinti speaker. Please show your support. How will you honor them?

Our theme this year--Red for Remembrance/Lolo Ilo:

In advance of the United Nation's "International Day of Commemoration" of victims of the Holocaust, we encourage you to honor the memory of the victims and send a prayer of blessing to survivors/their families by observing a moment of silence, alone or with a group you organize. THEN POST A PHOTO OR VIDEO WITH YOUR RED FLOWERS with a personal message to either our Facebook, Twitter, or Tumblr pages. Encourage others to participate as well by sharing this post on your personal page or other groups of which you are a member. 

Why red? Flowers are traditional symbols attached to Romani remembrance. This year we have chosen to represent remembrance through the use of a red flower: red for blessings/luck moving forward and a flower in honor of new beginnings as well as a nod to Mr. Zoni Weisz’s (the Sinti survivor/speaker at this year's annual UN Holocaust Commemoration Ceremony) career as a master florist. We also welcome the sharing of any personal photos, stories or memories in tribute.

The collective pictures and messages will be included in a letter of thanks to President Obama, The UN Holocaust Commemoration Ceremony organizers, Mr. Weisz, and Dr. Ethel Brooks.

UN Holocaust Commemoration Ceremony 2016

In addition to the appointment for Dr. Ethel Brooks to the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Council, we are VERY excited to announce that UN has invited a Romani Holocaust survivor to speak this year at the annual Holocaust Commemoration Ceremony!!! If you are in the New York/tri-state area *please* attend to show your support and hear Zoni Weisz (Sinti survivor) speak. The ceremony will take place on Wednesday, January 27. There may also be an opportunity to gather afterward. 

Registration is required in order to get a ticket/entrance (link provided below with more information); plan to arrive by 10:30.
