Even the most succulent of feasts must end. Wine runs dry, and bread hardens into rocks with time. There is still meat left to gnaw off the bones, for those desperate and hungry enough – but creatures of more voracious appetites must seek out larger prey. Imshael must take at least partial credit for the fall of the magisterium – as equal an amount as he would take for its rise. The voraciousness with which they spilled blood for power – at such gentle direction. It had almost been too easy.

He walks upon the azure tiles of the soon to be “house of the Maker”, the clang of tools ringing through the foyer as if to herald his discord. After nearly a century in Tevinter, adjusting to the culture of the new nation of Orlais had been a welcome challenge. The gaggle of former disparate clansmen had mixed – weaving their differing cultures together as best as they could under the uniting embrace of the Lady Andraste. A wicked, crooked grin spreads across Imshael’s face.

An ideal – a dream, but never the truth.

Differences fester, they rub up against each other and chafe the gentle fabric of harmony. Whether humans will admit it or not. Otherness. They cannot help but grow defensive – it isn’t their fault. It is natural, helpful even.

It is meant to protect them from beings like him.

More often, though, they employ it against each other; through wars or insipid posturing. Imshael delights in these little games they play with each other. The Game, he calls it.

Out of habit, without real physical need, he shields his eyes from the sun as he exits the construction, surveying the rudimentary courtyard with diligent eyes seeking a particular quarry. Hollow, black eyes narrow at the sight of him: Ameridan. Friend of Drakon, who has been called to consult on the founding of his “Chantry”, amongst other initiatives. He softens his grin to that of a more altruistic curve on his approach, then he speaks.

“WELCOME, AMERIDAN. i trust your journey from the dales was without issue?”
