Huh.....that sentence is archaic, isn't it?

Anyway the commercial caught on, so a couple months later they made a follow-up that was pretty funny imo

I grew up without cable and immediately before the ubiquity of internet, but I remember clearly my friend explaining to me why this was funny. At this point, that memory itself is funny and nostalgic.

Kind of like how I know that in the 90s there was a commercial for something no one remembers, and someone went "WAZZUUUUP," which is apparently the original source of every time someone says "wazzuuuup" jokingly.

Oh, the puzzleshipping reunion is so underwhelming after that Dartz battle. No "i missed you" or "glad to have you back" from Yami at all. It's just "the knights set you free and then Dartz escaped into the void".

Where's the emotion I saw earlier?

Ugh this has annoyed me ever since i watched the show as a kid because they build up the angst so good and then nada we literally get no closure to that as viewers and its so unsatisfying but I do appreciate that the abridged series pokes fun at that so there’s that at least lol

“Atem gets his own body” AU where he keeps trying to tell archeologists where Punt was and none of them will believe him. Except Ishizu. Ishizu believes him. Atem and Ishizu’s quest to convince academia about the correct location of Punt. 

They get thrown out of at least one (1) conference. Ishizu calling up Atem like “You’ll never believe what someone just said about us in this paper called ‘In Response to Ishtar et. al.’” and he’s like “I don’t know why this is so difficult. I’ve literally BEEN there.” and she’s like “I know, I know.”

Things Dr. Ishtar’s research assistants have managed to gather about her weird friend, Atem Muto:

Definitely doesn’t work here. Just…hangs out, sort of.

Apparently Egyptian but raised in Japan or something? Speaks perfect Japanese and Coptic but basically no Arabic. Speaks to Dr. Ishtar in a bizarre amalgam of the former two (Where did Dr. Ishtar learn Japanese?)

Must be some kind of expert because he knows literally everything about ancient Egypt in perfect detail, several details so specific it half feels like he has to have made it up, and is happy to talk about it at any time, sometimes seems to jokingly suggest he lived there.

Except he doesn’t exist on google. Surely a guy who’s done this much research has published a paper somewhere, right? Made some speeches? Listed as a contributor, or as a professor somewhere? But there is nothing. Not even a facebook profile. Man is an internet ghost.

In fact, he barely seems to know how computers work at all. One time someone showed him that you could play solitaire on one of the laptops and not only did he not know this already but was really excited about it.

Did I mention he’s like, 25, max? What? The intern is older.

He is so nice though. Kind of awkward but really encouraging. Like, huge weirdo but when he flies back to Japan to visit family for a few weeks everyone is super bummed. What a cool guy. Cool, weird guy. And what’s with his hair?

ishizu says that yugi sends a message to atem when he plays monster reborn that the dead don’t belong in this world

so that means Yugi understands what Atem is saying when he plays it. That his other self is straight up telling him I don’t want to leave, I want to stay here with you. And rather than figure out a way to actually give him what he deserves, Yugi is just like bye bitch it was nice knowing you but we don’t want you here. 

it’s funny that yugi is known as the kindhearted, caring character because his last action in the entire series is ice cold heartless

My favorite thing about the “solving the puzzle grants a wish” thing is that it’s not even canon Yugi just made it up

It’s explicitly wishful thinking on his part because his shounen animes have told him that it’s the sort of thing ancient magical artifacts do. Grandpa translates the hieroglyphs correctly a few pages later and they don’t say anything like that. None of the millennium items have ever granted a wish Yugi just watched too much dragon ball
