Pinktober
Well, it's literally the very first few hours of October... This month is known for Halloween, Trick or Treating and the time that the full swing of Fall starts to really happens.
To me, this month means a little more, it actually does to a lot of people, whether they show it or not. This month is Breast Cancer Awareness month also known as "Pinktober". School teams where pink in remembrance of those that have been diagnosed and are fighting or those that had been diagnosed and have unfortunately lost their fight.
Today (September 30th) I went and watched my niece play volleyball and her team was all decked out in pink with pink socks and hair bands. It made my heart warm to see it as a person who has had breast cancer run rapid through my family and take the life of my mother. I'm glad that the girls at such a young age are being informed and becoming aware of what to watch for.
I have something more for them though. Something a little more in depth. you see everyone talks about "Breast Cancer" and that is the only type of cancer for the breast that most people know of until it is too late.
There is another type of cancer that likes to linger around and get people when they have no clue and most think of it to be a spider bite or a bad case of mastitis. When in reality, it is actually a lot worse. It is Inflammatory Breast Cancer and the survival rate is less than 1% mostly because it has no precursor to it and isn't found and diagnosed until stage 3 or 4. The signs and symptoms are completely different than Breast cancer. there is no tumor! just a reddening and painful feeling in the breast tissue that tends to physically feel like an orange skin.
My point, is to just be aware of YOUR body, be aware of what is right and what is not. Know when to go to the doctor before it is too late and please pass along the word, it could help give someone a little more time to find a better treatment.
