Yesterday news about Supriya Ganesh being casted for the Netflix reboot of 13going on 30 sparked a wave of celebration across social media.
it also sparked a series of commentary I want to address here cause I have a little more space than X:
A small part of Supriya stans quoted the news with commentaries such as “fuck you Noah Wyle” or similar. I wish, I really do, that you would focus on celebrating Supriya’s successes instead of bringing into the narrative their former employer who mismanaged (to use an euphemism) their (not voluntary) exit from the show. It does a huge disservice to Supriya because instead of focusing on them you’re focusing on another person.
a whole lot of Noah Wyle? huckleberry? Robby? Stans are using the news to justify her exit from the show, in an attempt to absolve both NW and Scott Gemmill from the choice they made. I just want to point out that, besides the fact that it was a “creative decision” and that up until early march Supriya declared they were exited to read s3 scripts. After the news broke you proceeded to throw an avalanche of shit towards Supriya, calling them “talentless” and all sort of stuff to justify Gemmill and Wyle’s decision to axe her, and now you’re telling me she decided to go out to pursue this role. Well, you are confirming you were throwing excuses and attempting to justify what was (at best) a shady decision, mishandled from the start, just to defend the people who made the decision.
Now, I don’t think Noah Wyle is the bearer of every evil in the world. I do think the decision to get rid of Dr Mohan was pointless and stupid, and I think both Noah Wyle and Scott Gemmill are quite delusional and disingenuous to carry on production without taking into account a series of factors including fandom response (I’m not saying they should write the show to please the audience, I’m saying a different thing). I also think that one can be objective and recognize that they’re not above criticism instead of embarking in a crusade against the part of the fandom who’s upset their favorite is being written off. At best, I hope you learn to focus on the show and the characters you love instead of trying to crush good news from a former castmate.
here’s an idea: why don’t you get mad at the writers for gatekeeping crucial factors about Robby’s past, such as the fact that he wasn’t abandoned by his mother but she ended herself? Why should we know this information from an interview and not from the show itself?

I feel the need to clarify this: I see Samira as her own person completely. I enjoy Mohabbot because I like the idea of somebody understanding her and being on a similar wavelength. She’s got that white man wrapped around her finger and she doesn’t even know it because she’s too career-oriented for that 🙏🏻🙏🏻 She represents the chunk of us who don’t see the need for a relationship because we see our goals and careers as a priority; we need more selfish women in the media who put themselves first idgaf

Supriya going from an Emmy winning show to a character that's absolutely getting 5 minutes of screentime in a romcom reboot is such a huge step down it's not even funny. Like I actually feel sad for her.
You know what, considering she got fired from a show seemingly with very little notice that she thought she’d be working for 9ish months from June, I think we should all be grateful she’s booked something. It’s a movie, a movie that will build her resume so she can go on to do more movies and tv shows and build her presence in the industry as she’s starting her career, like most actors do. In a time where film and tv are dying, most actors would probably agree you have to do what you have to do to get jobs, and sometimes it’s taking roles like this to fill gaps and get connections.
She got dealt a bad hand and was left to deal with an absolute media circus with little to no support from the show, for a decision she did not make. Is this job going to be Emmy or Oscar award winning? No absolutely not, but I’m thrilled she’s able to get exposure and build a career that’s more than just The Pitt.
The fact that I’m ALREADY seeing such vitriol from people shitting on her for working A JOB IN HER INDUSTRY, like the industry is dying!! Careers don’t just appear and sustain themselves forever at a top tier for everybody, hey even Noah Wyle had to make guest appearances on Disney fucking Channel for a while there. Let’s be happy that she gets to get away from The Pitt and the hateful fans in this fanbase that just seem to want to see her fail.

If I have to block one more person that says Samira's story has "always" been about her "having trouble fitting into the ER", I'm going to scream. Not only was that not what season one was about in the slightest, it wasn't even what season two was about.

as a black person, as a woman, and as someone who works in the entertainment industry, i'm of multiple minds about supriya ganesh leaving the show and most of it comes down to whether this was a decision she made; given she is absolutely blowing up right now and likely has quite a lot of options for jobs, if she chose to leave, i think that's both fine and also, good for her! her star is on the rise! it also speaks to the realism of how many people come and go from teaching hospitals in real life, so from a broad-strokes view, i don't necessarily think that's a bad thing
on the other hand, the pitt has now twice removed characters who are women of color, notably this time a character whose major motivations center around advocating for and supporting patients who are also marginalized and mistreated by the existing healthcare system. the variety article indicates that this is a story-driven decision, which again, isn't necessarily bad on its face, but why is this specific character and actor being written off, why now? how much input, if any, did ganesh have in this decision? (knowing how writers' rooms work, there could be as much as some or as little as none.) there have also been rumors that this exit may have been spurred by ganesh being frustrated by the treatment of women of color and specifically advocating for better storylines; obviously if this is the case with her leaving the show, this is extremely fucked up
the announcement itself being paired with ayesha harris's promotion (which i cannot celebrate and cheer loudly enough) and coming out before the season finale itself also very odd; i am grateful that from what i've seen so far, people have not taken the easy bait of blaming harris and/or pitting two amazing actors of color against one another about this. the headline itself is very tokenizing, but i'm glad that people are smart enough to see beyond that. that said why drop this news now without any indication of what this means for either of their characters before the season is even over? (my guess is contract signings just happened but that's speculation on my part)
i wish supriya ganesh all the best moving forward and can't wait to see her star continue to shine in other projects, i am super sad about the loss of samira mohan as a character, and i am so excited to see ayesha harris grace our screens more as parker ellis, and none of these thoughts are mutually exclusive. ps i know i'm gensec of mohabbot nation but if mourning a ship is your first reaction to this news you are not a serious person

supriya stating in an interview that samira says the “maybe i just don’t belong here” line in the hope that he will correct her. to tell her that she does, that she’s important to the ed. but he just stares and doesn’t comment. how fucking painful it must be to see him refuse to comment on a sentence that is a clear red flag and a cry for help. from a person who has been her mentor for four years. knowing he doesn’t care about her view of herself as a doctor. no reassurance from the one person she needs it from
