Hi I'm Renu (she/her) and I do pretty much 50/50 arts and STEMy things irl, but my tumblr is focused on the arts side - though any and all interests leak through.

First things first, this blog is not suitable for minors! It is sfw 99% of the time, but I am an adult and I do not censor myself in the tags or in my reblogs, be it about kinks or paying taxes. This information is important because I also write and post about YA media (I contain multitudes lol), so I don't want to invite in the wrong crowd.

I've been very busy with real-life things so it's been difficult to put out finished art, but I'm piling up on sketches for later in the meantime (all of which you can see on patreon as usual).

I don't think she's going to ask me how things are going again.

It's funny though because I expected this? In a way, anyhow. I don't think anyone else did. Apparently a lot of people assume you can just write a book and some publisher will swoop in from the ether to grant you advances and movie contracts and it's like winning the lottery.

When the truth is even phenomenal things that I, personally, have trumpeted about and encouraged people to read because they deserve all of the love and attention... aren't making the author enough to live off. Not even enough to break even half the time.

People with huge followings who decide to write a book and you see them everywhere and you think 'oh wow they're famous' are also not living off of that. They've got another job.

Movies and TV have really skewed what it means to be an author and I just wanted to put this out there to remind other authors that it's not just you.

This isn't the get rich quick scheme tiktok makes it seem.

Or maybe it is and the 'scheme' part is that it's all luck-based and you can't count on being the next big thing.

You just put in the words and appreciate the fans who find you and love you... while maybe crying into your pillow and wondering what else you can do for an actual income.
