A day late but this my October 23 Inktober 2020 drawing. The theme was 'rip'. So the usual naive scientist from earlier last century ripping a hole in the fabric of space.

A day late but this my October 23 Inktober 2020 drawing. The theme was 'rip'. So the usual naive scientist from earlier last century ripping a hole in the fabric of space.
Bought this little sketchbook to do some art while at work. Or whenever.
My Inktober 2020 for the 17th. It was 'ornaments'. I did this doodle.
Did a drawing for Inktober 2020. For the 8th the theme was teeth. This guy came to mind and I felt like there needed to be a scene.
Hey Steven! I was a fan of your webcomic WhoGIrl, but I'm not able to find it online anywhere these days. I think it's worth preserving, any chance you'll upload it?
I have actually been thinking of making doing so to be honest. The only obstacle I would face would be having to re-letter the series again. The last few years I actually letter the comics as I draw by hand. Back in the WhoGirl days....I would draw the comic then letter the comics in computer afterwards. And I lost the first half of the 200 plus finished pages due to my computer at the time just crashing making them irretrievable from the hard drive. So not only lettering them and such, but I would have to remember what each character said in each of the panels and pages. I am very interested in doing that, but I do wonder if I can remember what all I had put in their mouths at the time, also I wonder from passage of time and looking differently now at the characters would affect what they say now. Would WhoGirl be the same character. I am sure she will be, but something is probably going to change in the process. The idea has almost become an idea of an experiment. Because I have looked at past comics I published, that was created with different eyes at the time. I look at life differently, and sometimes toy with the idea of redoing them. But other times I think they should be left alone.
But I digress. I have thrown around a lot in the past year reposting those. But it will be a little work to rescan all the art and reletter them. There might be some differences in banter, so be prepared for that. Only because I know I won’t remember everything they said. And the shading would be different. I was going for a screentone back then. These days it would be a lot more of a job to do to do that. I would probably go for a basic shading these days.
I've always loved the raw emotional pen strokes in @mercurialblonde 's art when I had a chance to see her stuff close up. Especially the background shading of her art as you could tell she sculpted and really put the ink on paper. I felt I could see the emotion. I had that in mind in this part of my WIP short comic and a brothers feels the pressure of annoyance from his little brother. I think I managed to catch it.
It has been three years since I working on this comic, but tonight I decided to stream. Got this panel done and it was very satisfying. www.twitch.com/redphoenixcomix
Restarting My Twitch Art Stream
It has been a long time since I did my stream. It started while working on a short story horror comic. I thought I needed to get more drive into my art, after working on other projects I was interested in, but drawing comics is my first love. So here it goes! Come watch, hope you enjoy! https://www.twitch.tv/redphoenixcomix
Are you still drawing? Can’t find anything recent from you :(
Very sorry. I know I can’t see your name. But I do plan to come back to drawing. Things got a little rough there for awhile artistically and motivation ally
A splash page from a short story I am working on. 'Chronicles of The Lapidary: Chronicle 1'. A character explaining the difference between friends and a companion.
Give a love that has self respect to people, but unconditional love to the ones that truly love and respect you.
Deep thoughts when alone...
I remember I would (still do at times) fight my hardest to keep those I truly care for in my life. But I realized, if they cared, eventually I shouldn’t have to.
Deep thoughts when alone...
There are those in our lives that betray us all the time. Not because they openly do so. But because we put them on a pedestal in our lives they are not aware of. We find those we hope give equally or more as we give them. One tries to give of themself to someone we hope we can bond strongly with. We hope we come to their minds when they have free time in their lives, or when they are busy with their lives, hope they wish they could spend time with us.
Then those end up betraying us, because we put so much hope into them, but their hope is somewhere else. Some other person, or path in life. For which we can’t really be angry about, but end up being angry with ourselves because we allowed ourselves to hope.
But yet we can’t get too angry, because I imagine everyone has looked back and realized we betrayed someone that hoped that of us.
One of the greatest feelings in life, no matter how late in the game it is, is finally figuring out who you are.
Then you can find your true passions, find your true joys, find those who are true to you.
A page from a story about The Lapidary (formerly The Jeweler). After ruining a page on a graphic novel I'm working on, had to take a small break by drawing a short story.
Fallout 4 Purified Water Can. A craft project I did.
I created this as a gift for someone that probably loves Fallout 4 if not more than I do. Crafted from two nut cans, and a label created on Manga Studio. It took a while to find the proper cans I thought looked best with the pop top. And it was a bit harder than I thought to find out what those contract numbers were. The original screen caps were pretty blurry. But I believe I got them correct.
Tried to get the fonts as close as I could as seen in the game.
I hope it will be enjoyed (just as much as I enjoyed making it) for the next 200 years. Side note, I also added something to the can that gives it a certain feel when one holds it.
The perils of using india ink and dip pens for illustrating comic books. A nights work and a full bottle of ink gone. And a lap full of ink trying to keep it from getting on the carpet.
Created by Paul Michael Johnson
Inspiration- I have to say this short film is a must watch! It most likely has views because of the fact it is a Star Wars fan film. But I was really happy to see there were comments pertaining to Macross.
I started watching it and right away I was nostalgic for 80′s and early 90′s anime. The detailed cell shading. The way they use to put the shine on things back then. The organic explosions. The dynamic looking energy blasts. The hyper camera movement that was seen in vintage anime, before The Matrix brought them to the big screen. The actual ‘pen’ lines are all over these scenes. I always loved seeing all those pen lines.
The characters are a bit americanized, but you definitely can see the vintage anime style here. Less over sized eyes/ undersized mouths style seen in a lot of anime now.
There was a lot of love put in this short by Paul Michael Johnson And a lot of awareness of vintage anime animation. Even down to the music. I do love some modern anime, but there was a lot of detail and work put in those old ones that can’t be replaced. Or very well shouldn’t be.
