Coins are cool. I wish ours were more useful in the US. While we’re at it, I also wish fascists didn’t run the country.
Had a 30 minute hope core cry session yesterday about how the United States needed the FIFA World Cup to be hosted here more than I or anyone could have predicted. The pure human spirit of Americans and other countries connecting, without media manipulation or political propaganda, has healed my heart in remembering that we're all just people who are being convinced by the wealthy to hate each other. Brits experiencing New Jersey delis. The Algerian team being welcomed and celebrated by Kansans. Brazilians celebrating the Knicks win in NYC. The Dutch taking over Dallas. The Scottish drinking Boston dry. More examples every day and we're not even a week in.
They're seeing how different we all are, how we're multiple countries expected to get along, how large this country is. They're experiencing the hospitality we inherently have but the world has been shown the vocal minority of hateful bigots and racists and believed understandably that we all were like that. On the flip side, we're excited to share our culture, food, generosity, and curiosity.
My hope from all this is Americans see we're all humans. We're all the same. We don't need borders, we need culture. That other countries aren't scary. If anything, I do hope this acts like a sort of collective proletarian viewpoint of the world. That we need to listen to each other, not talking heads. They have something to gain from us divided, but the World Cup is proving that we inherently want to connect. FIFA is not without criticism, far from it. But I believe this goes far beyond the World Cup. This is healing moment.
We both needed this now more than ever, Americans and the other participating countries, and I don't think it could have been planned - this is cosmic. And even if the good interactions are shadowing the others and this is also a form of propaganda- fuck at least it's positive and hopeful for once in the past two decades.
For the first time in at least a decade, I'm hopeful and...proud to be American.
I think we're gonna be okay.

How do you stay curious and creative?
Genuinely, you need to surround yourself with curious and creative people. It rubs off on you. I am constantly inspired by my friends, Slenderverse or otherwise, and it is infectious. Nothing exists in a vacuum. All movements are communities. Think of CBGB being the hub of the punk community - they all made friends there and said "I wanna do that too" and made their own bands. They couldn't do that alone.
