2024 a year in photos

On Christmas morning, before we had to head over to the family for Christmas lunch, we headed to Entwistle Reservoir for a nice walk.
It is about a 3-mile circular walk around the reservoir from the car park, there are some parts which can be muddy, and this year was no exception due to all the rain we have been having. This also meant the reservoir was much fuller than previous visits.
This shows the difference between 2018 (right) and 2019 (left)

My favourite was definitely the Black Bellini.
Do you have a favourite cocktail?

Whenever I go to Walt Disney World I have my must-do attractions.
First up is my favourite park – Magic Kingdom. There isn’t an attraction which I don’t like and I make it my mission to do every attraction once, but there are some that I will do as many times as I can!
Walt Disney’s Carousel of Progress
“There’s a great big beautiful tomorrow shining at the end of every day”
Walt Disney’s Carousel of Progress located in Tomorrowland, is a rotating theatre show, it opened in 1975 and was originally at Disneyland in California. There are four acts which cover the 1900s, 1920s, 1940s and 21st Century. Last time we rode this attraction it got stuck and we had to watch one of the scenes three times!! It needs some TLC, but I wouldn’t want it to be changed too much.
Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover
This attraction is also in Tomorrowland, it takes you on a narrated, elevated grand circle tour around many of the attractions in Tomorrowland and lasts about 10 minutes. You go behind the scenes of Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin, Space Mountain and Mickey’s Star Traders. I have never been lucky enough to experience the ride through Space Mountain with the lights on yet.
Seven Dwarfs Mine Train
This is my favourite roller coaster, it always has a super long line and FastPass+ are really hard to come by, when not staying on site anyway! I love the way the cars sway as you go round.
Sorcerors of the Magic Kingdom
Sorcerors of the Magic Kingdom is an interactive scavenger hunt, it is included in park admission. You can sign up at the Firehouse on Main Street U.S.A. and you will receive a Sorceror key card (this can be added to your Magic Band too), Merlin’s Mystical Map and Spell Cards. You can get a pack of cards each day you go into the Magic Kingdom and there are various levels of difficulty. There are limited time spell cards for special events, such as MNSSHP and MVMCP.
To play the game you open a portal with your key card or magic band and use your spell cards to help Merlin and defeat the villains. There are portals on Main Street U.S.A, Fantasyland, Adventureland, Liberty Square and Frontierland.
Big Thunder Mountain Railroad
It’s the wildest ride in the wilderness!
This is one of the classic mountains. You get a great view of the Rivers of America and if you are lucky you can wave at the Liberty Belle as you whizz by.
Haunted Mansion
“We have 999 happy haunts here, but there’s room for a thousand…”
Grim grinning ghosts come out socialize…
Is the room actually stretching, or is it your imagination…well that will depend on if you are in Walt Disney World or Disneyland!
You board your Doom Buggy for a journey through the haunted manor, you are accompanied by your Ghost Host who provides narration throughout your tour. At the end of the ride you are joined in your Doom Buggy by a hitchhiking ghost.
Jungle Cruise
The jokes are cheesy but that’s why I love it!! For the holidays this attraction usually transforms into Jingle Cruise, the jokes are just as cheesy!
What are your must-do attractions?

So about a month ago I did something I didn’t think I would do…skydiving…well indoor skydiving to be precise 🙂

Some time ago my Mum said she wanted to do it, but I wasn’t keen, and it wasn’t cheap.
Back in February, I was thinking about what I could get my mum for her birthday the following month, and whilst watching Cruising with Jane McDonald she did indoor skydiving, I decided to have a look at prices. I was in luck, they had a valentines offer which was a saving of about 45%, this included two flights and the digital package (photo and video). I took the plunge and booked it for us both. I decided to make it a surprise and not tell her what I had planned! I just hope she hadn’t changed her mind!
It was at iFly Indoor Skydiving Manchester, next to Chill Factore and the Trafford Centre. You have to book at time slot and are told to arrive an hour before your time slot. Approximately 45 minutes before our slot our instructor came for us, there were eight in our group altogether. We watched a short video which showed us what to expect and the proper body position for flying and hand signals the instructors use while you are flying. You then go and get your gear – helmet, flight suit and goggles…very fetching!!!
Once we were all geared up we went into the flight chamber…eek!!
When it is your turn you stand in the doorway to the chamber and just lean in, the instructor then guides you around and will use the hand signals learned to tell you if you need to change your arm or leg position, it is important to keep looking straight ahead, which can be difficult. We had two flights which lasted one minute each, so after a minute the first flight was done. Once everyone has taken their turn it is time for your second flight and this time you have the option of doing a hi-fly, where the instructor will take you high up the chamber, if you are not comfortable you don’t have to do this. There is obviously an additional charge for this, we also got the chance to do a third flight, again for an extra charge.
We had the photo and video part of our package which was really good, although my Mum only had about three photos, whereas I had probably double.
My Mum absolutely loved it and we would both definitely do it again. The whole experience at iFly Manchester was excellent. The instructor was really friendly and put you at ease and look after you throughout the flight.

I am sure anyone who has been to or follows the goings-on at Walt Disney World will remember the hype over ‘Rose Gold’ Minnie ears.
Well, Disney is trying to capitalise on this with a new colour…Potion Purple, try saying that fast a few times!!
I had already decided I would be getting some new Minnie ears on my very recent trip, and I decided to embrace Potion Purple. There are other Potion Purple merchandise and even snacks throughout the resort.
Along with my ears I also got a Potion Purple Spirit Jersey, why have I not bought one of these before!? I love them, I think I will be adding to my collection (which is now two), on each new trip 🙂
What do you think of Potion Purple? I just saw today that the Potion Purple Minnie Ears will be coming soon to @shopdisneyuk

Discovery Cove and my first go at Vlogging!!
We are here in Orlando, Florida and on our first day we went to Discovery Cove. This is our second visit, but our first was 16 years ago! On our first ever trip to Orlando, Florida we did the Dolphin 🐬 swim. This time we just wanted to spend the day relaxing, we had also reserved a Private Cabana for the day ~ and that is exactly what we did!!!

Woodland walk
Recently we have been getting out and about at the weekend when the weather has been kind to us. We went to Styal Country Park and used the iFootpath app, for the walking route, and also to track the walk. As it uses GPS you can follow the walk very easily. There are hundreds of walks, and it also includes written instructions too.

Countdown to Walt Disney World
We have been on another countdown to Walt Disney World
I am super excited, we are going in four weeks, the end of January is a time when we have not visited before. The holidays will be over, the marathon will have happened, so I am hoping it will be quiet…as much as WDW can be quiet of course! It is only one more days until we can start to book our FastPass+ (we are staying off site, so we…

You may think that it is a little early to talk about Christmas, but in July Disney announced what we can expect this holiday season.
One of the things I was lucky enough to experience on our November 2017 trip was the Christmas Tree Trail at Disney Springs. It is free to experience and features 25 Disney-inspired trees.
The Mickey & Minnie tree was my favourite
Pluto & Princess & the Frog
Sleepy Beauty, Little Mermaid and Beauty & the Beast
Frozen and Cinderella
Snow White, 101 Dalmations and Pinochio
Fantasia, Villans, Robin Hood and Dumbo
Tangled, Peter Pand and Lilo & Stitch
Jungle Book and Muppets
Mulan, Mary Poppins and Alice in Wonderland

Black Cat Appreciation Day
Yesterday was Black Cat Appreciation Day, we have three cats, two black and white and one black, I cannot understand why black cats take the longest to rehome.
Here are a few photos of Dawson, Lily and Jasmine.

We booked our last trip (November 2017) through Virgin Holidays so I cannot comment on the booking experience for Virgin Atlantic (although we have booked direct with Virgin Atlantic in the past and always found it to be an easy process).
Virgin Atlantic offers three cabin types: Upper Class, Premium, and Economy. Earlier this year they introduced three types of Economy experience: Light, Classic and Delight.
As we had booked prior to the new experiences being launched we were in Economy Classic (when booking through Virgin Holidays this is currently the only option). We had to pay to pre-book our seats, although if you are not fussed about where you sit, you can wait until check-in.
When you book through Virgin Holidays you are provided with your Virgin Atlantic booking reference, which allows you to log into your booking on the Virgin Atlantic website. From here you can pre-book your seats. It is very easy, you are presented with a ‘map’ of the plane and can easily see seats which are available or not. The aircraft used for the Manchester to Orlando route is a Boeing 747, this is my favourite plane too!
We like to sit in the ‘bubble’, upstairs there is a small cabin and the cockpit. There are 20 Premium seats, and 33 Economy seats, 6 of which are exit row seats.
We choose 75B and 75C, these are exit row seats so have plenty of leg room, it cost £60 per seat to pre-book.
There is also the advantage of being able to get off the plane before most other people, as Upper class get off first, then Premium, the bubble and then the rest of Economy. We like to be off first so that we are near the front of the line at security!
The downside to these seats is that the TV and table are stored in the seat arm, this means that you cannot watch the TV during taxi, take-off, and landing. You cannot put the armrest up and you lose a little of the seat width due to this. The leg room far outweighs both of these for us. Also if you have the window seat (75A), there is storage between the wall and the seat, which means you can put everything you need for the flight right at your fingertips!!
With Virgin Atlantic you can check in 24 hours before your flight, unfortunately, this time I was unable to do online check-in as my DH had been selected for a random check, so we had to check in at the airport. We arrived at check-in about 3 hours before our flight time, there were only one or two families in front of us, check-in was quick and easy.
When it came to boarding, as usual, they boarded Upper Class, Premium, Economy Delight and then it was a free for all. Usually, boarding is by row number, so I am not sure why on this occasion they chose not to. We joined the long line, which did move quite quickly. We were soon on the plane and up the stairs, we went, to our seats.
Ladybird (G-VAST), is 21 years old, so if you are used to flying newer planes, this might feel a bit out of date. You can’t beat a 747 though!
There was a technical issue with the PA system which resulted in a one-hour delay, however, the flight time was a short 8 hours, so we made up the delay and ended up landing on time in Orlando.
Food and Drink Service
During the flight we were served drinks, these are all complimentary and include water, soft drinks, spirits, and beers.
You receive a nice little menu which shows you what food you will be served on the flight, and there is a choice of three main meals.
I had the ‘Creamy mushroom & chicken farfalle bake’, the Couscous salad was really good, and I even ate my DH’s!
Entertainment
The in-flight magazine Vera has all the information you need to know about what Films, TV, and music is on during your flight.
There are always up to date movies, but this time I noticed there were also lots of older movies on too, such as Big. There were over 60 movies, more than enough for an eight-hour flight! You can download the latest Vera from the Virgin Atlantic website.
The TVs are all touchscreen and you can save movies and TV programmes to your favourites, so you can plan what to watch on the flight!
I do not know when Virgin Atlantic stopped giving out amenity kits, we first flew with Virgin Atlantic in 2003, and I remember getting a ‘bag’ which had lots of useful items for the flight, both going out and coming back. In more recent years this had been reduced to a small amenity kit on the return night flight. On our last flight, we got nothing. They were very useful as they contained a sleep mask.
Our flight home was on Pretty Woman (G-VROY).
Our seats were 61H and 61K, these are on the first row of seats which change from 3 – 4- 3, to 2 – 4 – 2.
There is a lot of room between the seat and the window, however, they are normal economy legroom ~ which isn’t great! They are good seats if there are only two of you.
Have you ever travelled with Virgin Atlantic, what are your thoughts?
