‘Beauty Through Colour’
My final piece for the degree show along with a small written piece explaining the message behind my choices🌟
That was arm ache and a half 😭 so please with the amount of work I have done throughout the year😅
So my sketchbook work and portfolio is done😭😭😭😭 what a relief that was, I honest can feel my hand about to fall off✍🏼
So I decided to frame pictures from my shoot and paint over the glass random coloured shaped. This quick experiment links to my theme of colour blocking. 🌟 Despite the yellow being abit naff I really like this set of 3 pieces, I’m not going to talk deep into the images just yet because there is a link to my final degree show piece(s)😉😝 more to come👌🏼
.... and breathe😅
The catelogue is finally done, nothing beats a hand bound one🤣 I believe it gives it more character when hand written with pieces stuck in, (totally not a cop out because I’m useless when it comes to computers and software🙈) Time to clean my room😂 a messy room=a productive day I say👌🏼 more to come🌟
Having missed the photography workshop myself & @abisinghxo decided to run our own shoot. Luckily enough she has all the equipment🌟 I wanted to explore capturing different versions of myself whether that’d be me as a boy or me in drag, I also incorporated my theme of colour blocking using plastic gel screens, which I held at different angles for different effects. 📷 This was also accompanied by my continuous line thread work over my face which I believe gave it abit of an edge to it🧵 We shot all morning and then edited a few. I won’t be posting the final products just yet as they are for my final piece. I can say it is a series of 3 portrait photographs, showcasing the transition of being both a boy and a girl. The colour use and layering is to signify that it doesn’t matter what we look like we are all beautiful and we are all human💛 more to come🙌🏻
To link the technique of continuous line drawing with my theme of colour blocking I have treated a series of drawings, of myself wearing a cap 🧢 on several coloured canvas’. These pieces individually are unusual but interesting at the same time but when pushed together as a whole piece I believe that are a lot more effective and pleasing to the eye. I was very selective with the background of my canvas so that no adjacent canvas clashed.
Here is the image of the canvas’ altogether to make one larger piece😁 I actually like it☺️ More to come🤞🏼
A little gif to give you an all over view of my previous idea 💡😁
I have incorporated silhouettes and shapes before so I wanted to go right back to the start of uni with a few continuous line drawing and sketching a we all made ✍️ I wanted to focus more on structure and line work rather than an overall image. Using thread and a wig glue I started following the contours of my face, always using one long line of thread 🧵 This piece of art I find very minimal but very fascinating and attention grabbing. I intend to link this into my colour blocking theme, or who knows a final piece🤭 More to come🤞🏼
So with this Peter Blake inspired painting I wanted to create a twist and to link it to my ongoing theme of colour blocking which is apparent throughout my work and experiments🎨 By being selective with my shapes and colours I can not only create interest within the original painting but I am also adding layers and dimensions😁 Although it is very 2D it gives an illusion like feel to it☺️ I enjoyed creating this piece🎨 More to come
After looking at Peter Blake and one piece in particular, ‘Self Portrait with Badges’, I immediately wanted to create a similar piece of myself and my identity☺️ After finishing uni one day I photographed myself in my garden so I had something to work from, as being a art student, wearing the clothes I do, having a cap obsession and being in nature, are pretty much self explanatory of the person I am😝 instead of painting on canvas or paper I decided to use the card from my folder, for a different effect. I aimed to paint myself in a way that you know it’s me but then no so perfect. Larger brush strokes allow me to manipulate the colours together within the fence or bush for example🎨 this way is easier too as acrylics blend better this way. Although I strive (we’ll try) for perfection painting the human face is something I am aweful at, especially smaller scale, and need to practice. However I will use this to my advantage and link it to my theme of colour blocking, and simply paint shapes and patterns over the figure where I believe could’ve looked better👀 More to come😁
So I attempted adding nails and wool😝 I found it to very interesting but time consuming. Also, this pieces would’ve been soon much better if I had painted further over the triangular colours because the wood had absorbed the acrylic, leaving areas patchy😅 definitely something I can improve on next time. I also like the use of string so who knows what else I can create🤫 more to come
Because of my obsession with caps this piece was made solely because of that reason. On wood and using tape I have sections off different areas and painted them in different colours, linking to colour blocking👌🏼🧢 i then painted a cap over the top using acrylics👀 this piece is very effect because it makes a statement and the boldness of my choices stand out, capturing the viewers eyes. Because it was on wood I had the intentions to use nails and wool to weave around the lines, creating depth within the piece☺️ We’ll see if it works out🤷🏼♂️
This piece was a complete experiment based around how much I ‘overthink’ I have painted around a blank silhouette of my face with grey tones to represent the brain 🧠 and ‘dead thoughts’ whereas the colourful circles, (linking back to colour blocking) are there to represent the crazy and random thoughts I have. The collage of random materials like buttons, nails, wooden pieces have be placed over these colourful circles to showcase ‘overthinking’ and jumbling thoughts 💭 This piece has hidden meaning and is creative in that way but as a piece as a whole I don’t think it fits as well with what I want to do, but it was definitely worth exploring and having it as an experiment☺️
It was all inspired by a little random thing I created in my sketchbook aswell as stumbling across an contemporary artist called Anna Dabrowska but goes by the name Finnabair🎨
Totally unrelated to my uni work (but definitely inspired by it)😝 After posting my previous piece on my Instagram art page (@reecescreationsxo) I had a request to make a commissioned piece for a friend of his favorite drag queen; Bianca Del Rio☺️ I was so excited that someone liked my way of working and wanted a piece in the same way👌🏼 Just thought I’d stick this on my blog... so excited😁
This is another piece I have created bring inspired by colour blocking and silhouettes. Using a picture of myself from Snapchat I have painted a silhouette of myself but instead on one larger canvas but breaking it up into coloured blocks◼️◻️ I have particularly focused on skin tone colours being inside of the silhouette to represent my skin and the variety of tones there actually is and then placing brighter colours for the background so it will stand out🔴🔵 I actually really enjoy making pieces like this and it is definitely something I will be developing, maybe even for my final piece/s🤷🏼♂️
I’ve neglected my blog for abit because of being super busy, so I thought I’d do a post (or posts) of my work and experiments I have created around my theme of colour blocking🔴⚫️🔵 This piece was actually inspired by the silhouette graffiti I had noticed around my hometown of Wolverhampton and combining it with multiple coloured canvas’ to link to my theme.
I believe this painting series is very effective when combined and placed in its correct order, but then again with smaller canvas’ I am also to reposition them in an order that is new and even abstract to confuse the viewer😝 I will be posting more of my colour blocking inspired work🤞🏼
