"Desiree's Baby" by Kate Chopin
I am working on becoming comfortable with the way that the world does not sing in beats and sometimes I cannot hear the rain’s music in time with the thumps of my chest, which has a blinking VACANCY sign where my old friends used to be. I am not a gallery that you can walk through and admire the messy paintings for a moment then leave I am not the abandoned buildings that you traipse through on rainy mornings when you just need to remind yourself that everything falls apart.
The sky is calling for us; we are blaring television shows and dubstepping aside the pools of inadequacy that are filling the halls of our youth.
Don’t forget to take a moment before you run into some new college’s arms like a lover that will give you new opportunities and connections- remember the disneyland rides that although childish sing the truth "it’s a small world" plays as you drive away from everything you knew. Don’t lie, but don’t just lie there and let yourself be walked all over. Pull up your niceties and lay aside the guns, this is a fragile time for all of us.
I hope someday you will find me and remember what I once meant to you. #langleav

“Macbeth: How does your patient, doctor? Doctor: Not so sick, my lord, as she is troubled with thick-coming fancies that keep her from rest. Macbeth: Cure her of that! Canst thou not minister to a mind diseased, pluck from the memory a rooted sorrow, raze out the written troubles of the brain, and with some sweet oblivious antidote cleanse the stuffed bosom of that perilous stuff which weighs upon her heart. Doctor: Therein the patient must minister to himself.”

Okay, you might get this ask a lot, but its been bugging me for a while. I know lots of people and artists always say that it doesn't matter what age you are to be good at drawing and all that stuff, but I'm fifteen, I only really got into drawing when I was thirteen, and there are 12 year olds that can draw better than I can, and I try really hard and devote a lot of my time to it. I kinda wanna know what you think about that, because I think it sorta does have to do with their age and maturity
I don’t know how many more times I am going to mention that, but no, age does not matter. It shouldn’t matter if someone is younger than you and better in drawing, what should matter is you enjoying the process. Not other people, it doesn’t have to do anything with anyone except yourself.
Agh
I started drawing in 15, so what? there are many 15 year olds who are better at drawing than I am, so what?
WHY should age even matter? You don’t know how much time those 12 year olds devoted to drawing, what if they draw since they were 7? You don’t know how much effort was put into their work. Even if they have a little more natural flow to it, so what?
Stop comparing yourself to other artists. I know it’s hard to do (okay barely possible not to do it at all), but try to see it as a motivation other than discouregement.
Just..agh
draw for yourself, stop comparing the way you draw with the way another person draws. Your drawings are you, not them. It doesn’t matter if someone is ‘better’, doesn’t matter if someone is ‘worse’. If you’re devoted to your work, then it will lead you into improving it. It’s like your child. You might compare your child to other children, but you should love it no matter what, no matter what grades they have and no matter how many children have their grades better.
You care about your child, that’s it.
sorry got carried away
“Curiosity killed the cat,” Fesgao remarked, his dark eyes unreadable. Aly rolled her eyes. Why did everyone say that to her? “People always forget the rest of the saying,” she complained. “‘And satisfaction brought it back.”

Bruce Davidson - East 100th Street
"For two years in the 1960s, Bruce Davidson photographed one block in East Harlem. He went back day after day, standing on sidewalks, knocking on doors, asking permission to photograph a face, a child, a room, a family. Through his skill, his extraordinary vision, and his deep respect for his subjects, Davidson’s portrait of the people of East 100th Street is a powerful statement of the dignity and humanity that is in all people."
