8. "Stop distracting me.” and 36. "You need me.”
Today's case is turning out to be a categorical headache.
The red strung in thready webs from the edges of Caitlyn's pinboard won't converge at the center in any meaningful way. It's been hours—her mind, wracked and dredged, feels like a candle's overburnt wick. Still she purses her lips, blinking away the blur of fatigue, and iterates it again from the very top.
The answer has to be there, in some tiny corner she's discounted.
Corners relevant: motion at her peripheral, fists, shadowboxing just out of reach—an exaggerated puff of air accompanies each rapid strike.
Despite the distraction, or perhaps because of it, Caitlyn can't bridle the fondness as she says, "Can I help you with something?"
"Just doing my duty." Vi's answer comes punctuated by another flourishing punch. "Time for a break—can't believe you can stand still for so long."
