I realized recently that people hear our hourly rates and think that we get paid that much for every hour we are in the office… Which is probably why they think all lawyers are making so much money - even at $250 an hour, times 40 hours a week, that’s over $500k a year… but in order to bill 40 hours a week, I’d probably have to work at least 120 hours, and even if I was a partner (rather than an employee with a salary) I wouldn’t get to KEEP all of that…

If I had to bill 40 hours a week I would literally punch my boss in the face
