This is my pinch hit for @interdictedink for the @regeithgiftswap !! Hope you like it!! :D

Regris knew that Keith liked to be alone sometimes—which was fine, usually. However, when Keith went missing for well over two vargas, Regris had begun to get a little worried. Even asking Kolivan about the other Blade’s whereabouts hadn’t yielded any results. While searching the ship shouldn’t have taken very long in theory, as it was a small ship, it still had many nooks and crannies that Keith might have been able to squeeze himself into if he didn’t want to be found. Regris supposed that was one of the benefits of Keith’s small size.

You asked for a Space Mall Date - I hope you’re happy with this!

The task was simple recon – observation only.

It didn’t really require two Blades to do the task, but Kolivan was always a little wary of sending Keith on missions. The newest and littlest Blade member already had a reputation for finding trouble - or making it.

Which was why Kolivan had pulled Regris aside before the mission to say, “this should be a simple, trouble-free mission. Something to ease you both back into missions.”

He wants to bristle at those words - wants to object that he doesn’t need it - and certainly, Keith doesn’t. Keith had gone on multiple missions since the close call where he’d run into the control room to drag Regris out of the fire - literally.

But they haven’t done a mission together, and this will also be Regris’s first active mission after that mission failure. He’s still a little rusty, still slow on his feet and needs more time to warm up before training - takes more time to cool down and needs to stretch and rest to keep his muscles capable of working the next day. So although Regris is less than pleased with the mission, it’s probably for the best.

There’s also the fact that even the thought of a Galra Cruise Ship causes his stomach to turn uncomfortably.

So he concludes that this is probably the best mission, certainly for his own peace of mind. The Mall is about as far away from a Galra Cruise Ship as possible.

“Don’t touch anything, don’t take anything offered, don’t do anything that could give away your identity - don’t even talk to anyone if you can avoid it,” he tells Keith. Keith flawlessly pulls the small supply vessel into the docking area, Regris sees the twitch of his eyebrow that means he heard him, but he doesn’t respond until he’s fully executed the motion.

“You know, I have been to a Unilu Mall before,” Keith says, with the flick of his eyes upward that Regris has come to associate with exasperation. He hasn’t said out loud that he’s displeased with this mission, but he’s been on edge in a way that Regris isn’t used to - too used to the stillness or action he associates with Keith - so rarely does he see anything in between. But today, in this mission which only requires walking into the Unilu Mall and observing, is a trivial mission - really just an excuse to get them out of the base - Keith is acting tense.

It’s a bit of a puzzle to Regris.

“How did that go?” he queries.

Keith ducks his head, pulling the hood on his cloak up to obstruct his face - but not in time to hide the blush which colours his cheeks.“We ended up running from the mall security on a Kaltenecker,” Keith mumbles.

Regris can only assume ‘we’ means the Paladins - and after all Voltron is anything but subtle. Running from mall security on whatever a Kaltenecker is sounding exactly like something they would do.

“Follow my instructions, and do not draw the attention of mall security.” Regris pulls his own hood up and pushes the sleeves down on his suit. Though he doesn’t need to be completely anonymous as when he’s on a blade mission, his pink coloured markings are easily identifiable, and he doesn’t wish for those to be recorded in the Mall’s security database. The thought of anything possibly tying back to him, or to his family is his worst fear - coming before even the explosion which still haunts his dreams.

Keith huffs, but otherwise says nothing, folding his arms across his chest defensively.

And oh - that won’t do.

Regris steps forward into Keith’s space and places his hands on Keith’s. He uses his hold to unfold Keith’s arms, carefully holding Keith’s hands in Regris’s. He loves the feel of Keith’s hands in his own, Keith’s five digits to Regris’s own four feeling like they fit perfectly in the hold as he intwines their fingers.

He rests his head against Keith’s.

“I just worry,” Regris whispers. He hears the sharp intake of Keith’s breath at the words. “I want this mission to be a success and trouble free.”

Keith’s hands squeeze his own tightly.

“It will be,” Keith says, and the words sound sure, sound like a promise, and Regris takes comfort in them. “The mission will be fine. When it’s all done and we’re back at the base we can celebrate with the Soqual juice you love.”

Regris huffs a laugh, pulling away to look Keith in the eyes. “And how would you get your little hands on that.”

“I know a way,” Keith assures him, quirking a smile. “Just trust me.”Keith leans forward to place the gentlest of kisses against his lips, barely a brush against his lips before Keith is pulling away again. “Trust me like I trust you”

“I do,” Regris agrees immediately. He does. He trusts Keith with his life, believes in him, owes him his life. He thinks sometimes that’s too much - too much trust to have in one person when he’s never had this before - never expected it from any of the other Blades. He doesn’t say the words though, knows from experience that Keith would wave it off, get uncomfortable with that declaration. It’s enough for Regris to know though, and that knowledge is what he holds onto when the dreams chase him, when it feels like he could still be on that ship - or just waiting for the next trap, whatever form that may be in.

He trusts in Keith. He believes in Keith.

“Come on then,” Keith says, releasing one hand but pulling Regris along with the hand still locked in his own, “let’s get this mission completed and get you your Soqual.”

The mission should have been a standard information gathering one—Keith still couldn’t pinpoint exactly where it had gone bad. Even though he was sure both he and Regris had followed all of Kolivan’s orders, somehow—somehow—they had still tripped a sensor… or perhaps, they had been spotted on a security camera. It most certainly hadn’t been someone tipping off the commander in charge of the battleship, thank the stars. Keith and Regris had been lucky to get away in one piece. It could have gone much worse.
