"Frappe Brain" - Regis' Comic Workshop (featuring @bearsockz and Tess Bach) (2025)
BACKSTORY BEHIND THIS COMIC:
The idea was simple: Try to get a "guest star" to appear in my comic series. I was making my comic series, "Regis' Comic Workshop", and the comics I made were mostly decent. I was pondering ideas on how I could potentially make my comics more interesting to read; to see how I could go about getting more readers interested in the skits I wrote. And then, the idea hit me; I would commission a "guest star artist" to appear in one of my episodes.
Easier said than done. I had attempted to contact various artists on Twitter about the "collab comic" idea I had (artists such as NoonNoon, DarkLawst, and a few others), but despite me mentioning that I was willing to pay them for their part, many of them either formally declined, ghosted me, or never even saw my request to begin with. Contacting some of these artists would also be difficult, as sometimes if the artist had closed DMs, I would have to ask them in the comments of their posts. Bearsockz was among the many artists I had reached out to during my quest to find a "guest star". I had considered them because I loved their cute dog cartoons for a while now. I thought they would also be a dead end, but after a few days, on February 19, 2025, Bearsockz had replied to my message saying they were interested in my idea, and to be honest, I got excited at that moment, because I never thought my ambitious idea would work out. To tell you the truth, I never had an idea for the collab comic beyond "This comic strip would be a crossover between my OC and this artist's OC", and the reasoning for the lack of planning was because whatever comic strip I would write would be specifically tailored to that particular character. I didn't want to pre-write a "one size fits all" comic that I could plug any character into, as I felt like such a comic would be "corny" to read; like a TV show that had forced product placement for the sake of existing. I was also expecting my idea to be rejected by a lot of the artists that I reached out to, so the "tailored version" wouldn't be made until I got the green light from at least one. And now that I had approval, what do I write the comic about? I felt I had to treat this comic as having significant importance compared to my other past works for two main reasons; This comic was a commission I was paying for, and I wasn't sure if I could convince an artist as big as Bearsockz to work with me again. In my mind, I had to make this comic count. February 21, 2025; two days after Bearsockz greenlit my idea, I turned to my best friend who lives in Wales, and gave him my rough idea for the comic:
Tess sees Taylor the Dog Barista and asks them, "Are you one of them kitsunes?" Taylor responds, "No, I'm your barista, I'm here to tell you we're out of peanut butter"
Then my Welsh friend started suggesting I should add a "bunny girl" to the comic, and I replied, "[My friend here] trying to sneak a furry into the comic," to which he responded, "But you have a dog girl." I then told my friend that Bearsockz' OC wasn't likely a furry, to which he pointed out that Bearsockz' OC was an anthro dog. I tried to argue that anthro doesn't necessarily mean "furry", but then found a Tweet on Bearsockz' Twitter where they refer to themselves as a furry.
"You go onto a page with anthro animals and [then] act surprised [when] its [creator is] a furry," my friend responded. "Cartoonists draw anthro animals all the time though. It's [a cartoonist's] tradition," I said
I then finally had an idea for the comic; my OC Tess would ask Taylor if she was a furry or not out of the blue. I quickly came up with rough sketches to give to Bearsockz, with their OC drawn in blue outlines to indicate their parts to draw, and my OC drawn in pink. Another 3 days would pass before Bearsockz would respond, and they found the idea cute! Once the money was sent over, and after I gave them the specifications for the comic panels, I got my needed drawings later that same evening. During the time waiting, I drew the Tess parts during my work's lunch break, and I secretly drew the background for my comic at work while the shift was slow, using paint pens on an index card. Once all the panels were drawn, and once I got home from work, I quickly hopped onto my computer and assembled all the panels in Adobe Photoshop. The comic was then released on Twitter, Reddit, and DeviantArt the next day, on February 25, 2025, and this comic would end up being one of my most well-received episodes so far, next to "HIRING ARTISTS ON A BUDGET" and "HYPOCRISY". Side note: Because this was a collaborative comic, Bearsockz was given some rights to the copyright of this comic. HOW TO SET/CHANGE THE TIME ON THE Y2000 MINI CAMERA By Regis Casillas
Chances are, if you've been on Amazon, AliExpress, Wish, Temu, etc., you've seen these "mini cameras". This particular one is called the Y2000, which is a 640x480 keychain camera with surprisingly decent image quality.
By default the camera sets the date to sometime in 2067, so this will need to be set manually. This wouldn't be an issue if the camera didn't force a timestamp onto the images and videos you took. The instructions for the Y2000 camera cites that to change the time, you'll need to use "an included CD" to change the time. This may have been true when the device was launched years ago, but my version (purchased November 2024) didn't include one. And I couldn't find the supposed program online after countless digging on Google.
**SO HERE'S HOW YOU WOULD CHANGE THE TIME ON THE Y2000 CAMERA**
The first step is to make sure you've used an SD card with the camera prior. This will create a file called "TIME.txt" on the root of the SD card. Then connect your camera to your PC or insert the SD card into your PC.
Do NOT open the "TIME.TXT" file with Notepad, otherwise you'll end up with scrambled characters. Instead, open the file up with Notepad++
Once you open the file, you'll see "2017-03-08 12:12:12" along with "NUL NUL NUL...." Do NOT touch the "NUL" part, instead you're going to want to edit the written date to the current date. The date is formatted in YYYY-MM-DD and the time is formatted in Military format (23hr:59min:59sec).
Once you've set the time, save the document and put the SD card back into the camera, or disconnect it from your computer, and power the camera on by holding the button
The next time you take a photo, the forced time stamp should show the correct date.
Working on a Cartoon Comic rn
Her name is Tess Bach, she is 24, and no she doesn't do woodworking. The comic will explain the pic once I release it.
Sometime last summer, I was able to emulate Sarah Anderson's art style (down to the copyright mark) and I created my own "Sarah's Scribbles" character. I'm posting this because I know she'll never see it >:3
The three mysteries of life: Where do we go after we die? How were the pyramids built? And what the hell happened on Webtoon Canvas that made them have to explicitly say this when you're uploading your comic?
"Returning to College" - Regis Casillas (2023) REVISION: This was originally a self-deprecation comic I made, but I've took it down and edited the comic to make it more of a "redemption" tale. I start college in a few days for the first time since dropping out ages ago, and I'm nervous.

Turning Pictures into Audio (and back to a picture)
So I made two python scripts called the Baird Encoder and the Baird Decoder (named after John Logie Baird), and what the Baird Encoder does is that it converts your image into a mono audio file using the same concept as that of an analog television. The Baird Decoder on the other hand converts the audio BACK into an image, albeit in black-and-white. The decoder can also display mechanical television signals and rip every image frame from that audio signal clip (assuming the signal is perfectly stable)
If anyone wants to check them out, here are the github links (please read their README's before using either of them):

What's the point of Pride?
So I'm seeing a lot of people asking why Pride exists. Like why should we let a bunch of people flaunt who they like?
Well maybe it has nothing to do with the fact that for a good while, liking your own gender could get you hurt, disowned, or even worse.
Maybe it has nothing to do with the fact that these people are told that their existence is wrong, that they'll target the children, that they're nothing but mentally ill degenerates.
I highly doubt that it's because if the truth came out, they could be sent to a conversion camp to be forced to be straight. Only to be traumatized or repressed.
I'm sure it's not because that they've been forced to hide their feelings, or forced into a relationship they never wanted, just to avoid the repercussion for simply loving their own gender.
It's unlikely these homophobes would justify their hate with religion or false stereotypes, instead of something factual, right?
And I'm sure people are more accepting now. I'm sure these people would be okay with seeing two men holding hands in public. I'm sure they won't tell them to "keep it in the bedroom" or to "stop forcing your agenda on us".
I'm sure Pride isn't because people are tired of being ashamed over what they can't control. I'm sure it isn't because these forbidden lovers want to finally express themselves.
I'm sure that can't be the case. It's gotta be another silly holiday.
