Oh, well, thank you then. I sometimes walk around in my socks to give the floors some reprieve, but not everyone is comfortable with doing that. We don’t expect anyone to hover, but it wouldn’t be unwelcome.  I think that the easiest thing to do though is tread lightly. Oh! Say that you see a patch of flooring that looks particularly worn, you could sidestep around it. Honestly, just the smallest things can make the largest impacts.

[ Admittedly, he was hesitant about shedding his shoes. While tidiness was of a certain importance to him, Regulus was simply more concerned with whatever embarrassment he might incur due to his first-day socks. Still, the nature of the girl implied she’d...well, he couldn’t quite place her, really. So, shedding his shoes, he smiles sheepishly at the girl, revealing the bright socks with various colorful designs on them. ] My brother made them when I was a first year. Are there any other things I should take precautions of? Certain paintings I shouldn’t look in the eye or stairwells that have a biting step?

“I imagine the world would be a better place if you didn’t flatter yourself so much, but perhaps that’s just wishful thinking. Ah, uh…

Fuck: Gwenog. although…well, she scares me a bit. She’s so powerful and I feel like, if this ever gets back to her, she might hurt me, so please don’t lead her into thinking this was meant with any ill-will?

Marry: Pandora, because she’s eerily captivating and I don’t think I’d actually mind getting to know more of her, um, odd fascinations.

Kill: Emma, but only for the sole reason that I’d probably get to become Slytherin Team Captain.

Fuck: Gilderoy. He’s always seemed rather…well, ‘interesting’ isn’t quite the word, but I can’t think of any other.

Marry: Rabastan. A match even my mother would approve of.

Kill: Peter. I’d like to imagine it’d do a world of good, but that’s obviously just my skewed opinion.

Marry: Sirius, I suppose, though he’s not my first choice given almost everyone else in the world. Still, I’d much rather spend the married portion of my life with someone who knows me, somewhat. And, besides, everyone expects it from our family anyway…

Kill: James. Self-explanatory, even for the likes of you, I’d hope.

thoughts on sirius? just existing in general.

I envy him. I envy him more than I ever thought I could envy a person who shared my name and my blood. He’s a voice in my head, constant and heavy, but before he was something intangible…he was my best friend. He was all I had. Now, he’s nothing more than  a ghost, reminding me of every supposed ‘sin’ I never had the courage to commit.

‘Existing’ is an awfully generous term, don’t you think? He’s coasting through life, if anything, quite feebly holding onto whatever he thinks his so-called friends are providing him with. Generally, I don’t think of him at all. His kind is of no use to me, anyway.

Honest opinion of the Slytherin boys?

Luscious Lucius: 

On point. Everything about this boy is on point. I saw him wear Van Gogh socks once and I had to physically restrain myself from committing a fashion crime #1 and copying him. He’s kind of like fine art - beautiful, but you wouldn’t cuddle with it because it seems like it’d be uncomfortable?

Amycus:

Scary and so mean. He’s very pretty though.

Rabastan:

Actually a puppy and so, so outwardly sweet, which is rare in this particular group of people. I’d definitely cuddle with him.

Regulus:

Everyone on the face of the planet should be courting Regulus, I don’t understand why they aren’t. Handsome, kind, distinguished, intelligent - what else can you ask for in a guy? Hop on that, people.

Rodolphus:

Unpopular opinion, but I think he’s a diamond in the rough. Yes, he is vaguely threatening most of the time but there are these little moments where he gets this look in his eye and I think… I don’t know. Something underneath all that hostility.

Severus:

Leave him alone. He’s not that greasy, he’s not that weird, and he’s not that mean. People who take time and effort out of their pathetic lives to bully him are far worse than the person he is or ever could be.

Aelius:

Physically flawless. Straight money. He looks like he sweats Chanel.

MULCIBER I DID NOT FORGET YOU MY LOVE:

I am very worried about him. Does he have health insurance? Does he have enough raw steaks to put over his eyes? Does he keep track of all the people he punches so he doesn’t accidentally invite them to his wedding?

Natural Selection || Gwenog & Regulus

Out of the many things he knew he was meant to complain about and take great distaste in, nothing managed to irk the youngest Black so much as the idea of being paired up with another witch or wizard. Prone to hours that teetered over into days spent entirely alone, silence and a lack of anyone else’s influence held a certain comfort for him, and when he was in the company of others, it was generally on his own terms, surrounded by people he knew didn’t pose too much of a threat.

So, when Professor Binns tasked pairs of students with a research project on important figures of the Wizarding Giant Wars, Regulus couldn’t help but think of this with disdain. Paired with the ball of spitfire that was Gwenog Jones, one of the fiercest and most challenging Quidditch players he’d ever played against, the boy wondered if her approach to scholastics were any bit reminiscent to her athletic capabilities.

And so, he waited in silence, pacing just outside of the entrance to the Library as silence lingered, heavy in anticipation of his project partner.

He could heart the shift in Regulus’ tone, could hear the slight unhappiness as he spoke about how family wasn’t as constant as Benjy’s. The thought made Benjy’s heart sink; family was supposed to always be around for you, regardless of the situation. His curiosity piqued, and he wondered what about his family could not be constant, but then he remembered Regulus was Sirius’ younger brother, the same Sirius that was Sorted into Gryffindor instead of Slytherin like the rest of his family. That would cause an irreparable schism, Benjy figured. “Green elf?” Benjy said, a small humourless laugh leaving him. “I suppose that’s what he’d look like to the Wizarding community. His name’s Yoda. I’m surprised you’ve even seen a Muggle movie, though. Isn’t that against some sort of pureblood bylaw?”

Had he revealed too much of himself? Father always warned him of that, forever insisting that the ‘defect’ in his son’s inclinations were a result of a certain older brother’s own faults. Then again, practically everyone knew Sirius, and by extension, most were familiar with Regulus, even if it was only through whispered words and slanderous stories. When the other boy moved on to talk of that Muggle film, Regulus couldn’t help but let out a slight, though wholly relieved, smile - one that shifted immediately downward at mention of the pureblood elitism that was so commonly associated with his name. “In my first year, there were some older students projecting it in the library for their Muggle Studies class, and I thought I heard my Grandfather Pollux speaking, but it was that strange little elf named - what is it? Yoda? Right.” Never mind the fact that he found the little snippet of whatever he’d seen to be quite humorous, that was for his mind only. “You speak as though you’re more familiar with the Muggle community,” Regulus added, a forced tone of disdain coloring his words.

It’s really the constellation names that do us in and leave you with stuff like ‘Equuleus’ and  ‘Auriga’. Who’s idea was that anyways? I swear to Salazar I am going to get my hands on a time turner just so I can go back and wack them over the head. Oh, well, you just wait. Something weird happens to you guys between 4th and 5th year - suddenly you’re, like, prowling.

Not a lot because my parents did the same, but there is one of you and me and Bella at a Garden Party, and I’m pretty sure it was taken right after she stole your macaron because you’re ugly crying. Definitely my most prized possession.

I dunno if Mum ever ranted and raved to you about this, but she’s got this belief - well, she claims there’s proof - that we’re descended from Circe herself, and so in an effort to pay homage to the celestial witch herself, we’ve all been blessed with starry names. So, you’d better have a Time Turner that can go back eons, dear cousin. [ Another blush, lighter this time, and he shakes his head at the notion. ] I am in 5th year, but we all know that it’s Sirius who gets the attention around here.

Let me guess - I’m dressed up in those awful light green dress robes Mum always made me wear to those parties, the one that made me look like a bloody tree... And, oi! Uncle Alphard always makes the most delicious macarons, you’d have to be totally heartless to not cry if one was taken right as you were about to take a bite out of it. Well, if anything, it’d certainly distract the other team, which would give us a winning advantage. Actually, now that I think of it... No.

The boy’s words, of course, struck a particular chord within Regulus. Family was a constant, or at least, it was meant to be -- and yet, here he was: without a brother, who (by every definition) was every bit his family, his blood. “So they say. I have about sixteen years of proof to the contrary, however.” Perhaps his own response had a bit more bite than bark, but they were nonetheless true, and Regulus was all but coming apart at the seams over the apparently shared nature of a family’s disappointment. “Do or do not, there is no try. Some little green elf said that in a Muggle move and it seems rather fitting.”
