sirius wasn’t surprised when his brother kept insisting that he would be fine. they BOTH knew it was a lie. with a sigh of his own, he got up, standing in front of his brother. for a moment he hesitated, not sure what he should do next ; hugging regulus.. he wasn’t sure about his brother’s reaction, even though it was something he’d wanted to do for a long time now. “ ━ NOT when you still live there,” he commented, placing a hand on his shoulder. “come live with me when school is over. you must’ve heard that uncle alphard - he left me some gold. and a flat.” there was no chance in hell that regulus would even consider his offer, but it was worth a try.
“mother doesn’t have to know,” he said with a shrug. but his brother was the better son than he ever was. sirius barely remembered what was it like to … actually listen to his parents, do as he was told. that was the difference between them.
His immediate instinct was to reject such affection, but even Regulus had to admit he’d needed a hug from his brother and he wasn’t getting any affection at home not from their mother or father anyway. Wrapping his arms around the older’s frame, the younger let out a small sigh shaking his head; Maybe Sirius was right, he wasn’t ever going to be okay while he was there...but for some reason Regulus felt a need to be loyal to his family even if what they were doing wasn’t great. “I know...” the darker haired sibling replied, pulling back to look at his brother even with such an offer Reg as much as he wanted to accept...just couldn’t. “Sirius, you know I can’t. Even if I wanted to...but that’ll be nice for you. Actually having a home of your own.”
“She’d find out and as always, i’d be even more restricted in what I could do-She wants me to get the mark you know, before I turn seventeen.” his words in more of a whisper at this point as he’d completely pulled away from his older sibling. “I’m terrified, not that she cares about that. The only person who cares in the house at this point is Kreacher and you know how he can be sometimes.”
Regulus wasn’t even sure why he’d told his brother, other than to simply talk to someone who wasn’t expecting it of him; someone who’d try and talk him further out of it. Although at this point Regulus imagined there mother would pin him down and force him to get the mark regardless of his answer.
