it's hitting me that there's really still quite a bit that I need to do before even thinking of beginning to rewrite Isaak's story. like I don't Have to do anything before rewriting really but my life will for sure be way easier if I do indeed do that.
before rewriting i will most likely need to dedicate a whole day to rewriting my timeline. a lot of the starting stuff will be able to stay, yeah, but quite a bit of stuff will have to be moved around. maybe i could move Isaak's face wound back. move around the end of the war too. do something. maybe of possible move back when the reveal happens, idk man, its rlly tough. thats why i wouldnt recommend working with timelines. cuz its damn difficult and maybe even borderline stupid to try and attach a dated timeline to a show that doesn't actually showcase a directly dated timeline. sure theres time that passes between events, but you dont have the exact dates. you have 3 years, 4 years, u have a month. u have day 1 after even, day 2, day 3, day 4. week. weeks. that type of stuff. ugh. hate hate hate this
mmm i believe my timeline is like extremely wrong and needs to be pulled back by a whole half a year but i literally dont know how the hell i would be able to do something like that. ugh.
raid on liberio happens in winter in my timeline. that feels very wrong. all of it happening in winter is just reaaally wrong. it is. it doesn't match up. it would be around spring/summer. maybe summer/fall. fuuuuck
stuck. while Isaak's storyline is written with Isaak staying with Reiner once rumbling starts... I'm wondering if it would be better to instead let Isaak go with Gabi. What does Gabi even do. I need Isaak to acknowledge Magath at the campfire. ugh. I need to add more scenes between Magath and Isaak.
Leaning towards keeping Isaak staying with Reiner because I just really love the idea of Isaak spooking everyone that comes to like, get Reiner, by making Isaak shoot his rifle at the door cause he doesn't know who the fuck is coming in.

hmmm. something something Reiner crushing on Historia because it seems Right and what would be expected of someone like him. something something. (i'm saying he's Gay.)
I think after I am done with Isaak's main storyline, I might look into writing a longer AU where he's left behind in Paradis. I think he could become way more cruel and problematic there.
my current biggest struggle is the fact that I want Isaak to be in the last fight. yk on the founder. but ugh. writing thst will probably be so extremely tough. and also he would then have to get turned into a titan.
also he would be fighting there with a like 12 hour old gunshot wound to his chest. would he be able to do anything. surely he wouldnt take his rifle. his rifle wouldnt help shit... right? ugh this is hard.
ty @reinerbf for making this! my biggest OC inspo!!
Basics.
Q. What is their full name? Does their name have any specific pronunciation?
A. Eva Katja Burke
Q. Is their name recognized to have some special/specific meaning in canon?
A. Nope, just a name her mom thought was pretty :)
Q. Do they have any nicknames? Do they hold any significant importance or are they just simple nicknames based on their name that everyone uses?
A. She never had a nickname until she met Floch in the Cadet Corps, who started calling her "Evie". It was very much his nickname for her, so no one else used it while he was alive. However, at some point, Cato (another OC) starts using it after Floch's death. It is a comfort to her, so she lets him keep calling her that. Connie calls her Evie once or twice, just to test it out, and she doesn't mind. When Reiner jokingly asks if he should call her Evie, she explicitly says he can NOT call her that. She wants a sharp line between him and Floch.
Q. Do they have any alias’? Big titles given to them by others?
A. Her most defining title was Command Sergeant Major of The Yeagerist Army … AKA 'Sergeant Burke'.
Q. When is their birthday?
A. February 8th, 836
Q. What is their age?
A. 5-years post-Rumbling (when FOL starts) she is 25. Reiner is 29, almost 30 when they first meet.
Q. Where were they born? Did they grow up there?
A. She was born and raised in Mitras. Firmly middle class
Q. What is their gender? Sexuality?
A. Female, heterosexual
Q. Do they have a significant other? If so, are they the endgame or will they be shipped with someone else further down the line?
A. Eva's significant other in 'Night After Night' is Floch. He is her first and greatest love … the idea that he is her 'greatest' largely stems from her feelings of nostalgia and trauma and loss. Reiner is her main ship, though. In contrast to Floch, he is a safe, secure person. Reiner may not induce the incredible swings of emotion, blind faith, etc., that she had with Floch … because, well, he isn't trapping her in an extremely abusive relationship and she's older and wiser, now … but she experiences a different kind of love with him: one that is based on mutual respect, empathy, and communication.
Q. Status? Dead or Alive?
A. Alive
Q. If they live through their main storyline, what is their ending like? Happy, bittersweet, sad?
A. Happy ending <3
Q. If they die, how does it happen?
A. It won't happen in the series but they'll die of old age. Eva will go first, Reiner soon after.
Physical.
Q. Height? Weight?
A. 5'3", 136 lbs
Q. Eye color?
A. Grey
Q. Hair color? Style?
A. Long, straight/wavy auburn hair. She often wears it in a braid, mainly out of habit from her life in the military. Although, as she settles into retirement, she wears it loose a lot more often. Reiner likes brushing it.
Q. Specific features?
A. None in particular
Q. Marks (scars/tattoos)?
A.
Tattoos: Yeagerist symbol across chest (something forced upon her to prove her loyalty)
Scars from Bullet Wounds: Left thigh (sustained in 854), Left shoulder (sustained in 854), Right forearm (sustained in 861)
Scars from Sharp Objects: Right foot (sustained in 842), Stomach (sustained in 854), Left shoulder blade (sustained in 854)
Paradis.
If they went into the Cadet Corps:
Q. What made them join the Cadet Corps?
A. First and foremost, Eva just wanted to leave. Home hadn't been the same ever since her mom died. She looked up to her sister a lot, who was in the Military Police, so she set her sights on following in Sara's footsteps.
Q. What regiment did they want to make it to?
A. Military Police
Q. Did they get into the regiment they wanted to join? If not, did something (bad grades, that type of thing.) stop them or did they change their mind?
A. Yes! And even though Floch tried to convince her to join The Survey Corps, she stuck to her guns (literally, lol) and joined the MP. This caused their first big fight, and was a huge point of contention throughout their entire relationship.
Q. What was their graduation class? (for example, Eren graduated from the 104th Cadet Corps)
A. She was in the 105th; one year behind Eren's crew. She didn't interact with them all that much in training except for Floch, although she did at least meet most of them … and Sasha/Ymir were in her bunk during her first and second year. She never interacted with Reiner, though, until post-Rumbling.
Q. What was their graduation rank?
A. Ninth
Q. If they were a high graduation rank, what skills helped them reach such a high rank? And if they were a low graduation rank, what skills made them drop so low?
A. She was an excellent marksman/shooter and did very well at anything target-based or arms-based. She also had a lot of direct training from Floch (and had even learned some ODM tips from Jean and Bertholdt), so she became quite proficient in ODM stuff as a result. And, because of her upbringing in the capitol, she had a leg up in the classroom. The one area she really struggled with was hand-to-hand combat, as she was quite small in her early teens and could be easily overwhelmed by the larger guys in her year, and even some of the girls.
Q. Do they defect from Paradis? What would it take for them to defect and oppose Paradis?
A. No, although Ryker (Commander of the Yeagerists, OC) would argue that she does. But everything she does is always in the best interest of Paradis, in her opinion. Even when she's more or less banished from Paradis, she still tries to do her part in helping The Yeagerists during the Occupation Arc. I will say, however, that this 'Paradis-first' mentality has less to do with a selfless nationalist identity and moreso with her personal loyalties.
Q. During the rumbling, did they take a side? Alliance, Yeagerists, Neither?
A. Yeagerists
Other questions.
Q. What was their big life-changing event? How has it impacted their behavior? How does it impact their current life?
A. Uhhhhh two answers here. And kindof a long ramble. Oh well, I guess that's the point of this right?! :)
Obvious answer: When Floch died.
I strongly believe, unfortunately, that Eva never would have left Floch and that she would have just endured his treatment her whole life. Him dying affected her personhood in many ways. She lived in Floch's shadow, and his personality steamrolled over hers. On a positive note about their relationship, he was always extremely protective of her when it came to others, and would come to her defense. He NEVER let anyone push Eva around (unless it was him). Because of this, when he died, Eva had to learn to stand up for herself. She becomes fairly outspoken, however, there are certain people that know how to push her into similar states of submission.
An example of this is Ryker (which brings me to my next major life-changing event). She has no love for Ryker — no attraction — but he picked up her abuse where Floch left off. Of course, she does not accept it as easily as she did with Floch, but he has no problem exerting his dominance both physically and verbally over her. This has given her a strange sense of attachment and loyalty to him, and I actually think she has such a hard time leaving The Yeagerists because it meant fully defying HIM, and also because she felt that The Yeagerists were Floch's legacy, and she felt like she was betraying him by betraying them.
Her next and arguably MOST life-changing event is when she decides to take Reiner/The Survey Corps' side over Ryker's. During the Paradis Arc, he offers her a chance at redemption in exchange for taking his side during the talks about how to smooth things out with Marley. After a heart-to-heart with Reiner, she decides against this. It is the final straw between her and Ryker, and NOW Eva is truly free to learn who she is. The second half of FOL, which I am now writing, Eva is truly getting to know herself and developing her own identity separate from Floch and The Yeagerists.
Q. Do they have an event where they were truly and utterly terrified?
A. The first time Floch beat her, it was REAL bad. He'd gotten intense and semi-violent before, but the first time he truly snapped, it was BAD. Like, smashing her head against a wall. Yeah, that wasn't fun. She really thought he was going to kill her.
Q. Do they hold any secrets that they wouldn’t want anyone to know? Does anyone ever learn of it?
A. To cope with Floch's abuse, Eva turns his, uh, violence into 'training'. Basically, she figured that if she treated Floch wailing on her as a "sparring session", she could dissociate from the situation. She shared this little tactic with him as a way to make her feel in control, and it actually made everything way worse because then he felt justified every time he did it. She held a lot of shame and embarassment over this … and this exponentiates her feelings of 'this is my fault' because she feels like … yea … I literally told him this was okay and that he's helping me grow stronger because of it. She never tells anyone this, even Reiner. She lives and dies thinking that, because of this 'roleplaying' exercise she came up with, all abuse after that was fully her fault.
Q. What is the worst mistake they have ever made? How did it happen? Have they moved on from it? If the mistake involved other people, have they moved on from it?
A. I think the worst mistake Eva ever made may have been when she decided to protect Floch's brother. Instead of turning his treason/plot with Ryker into the Survey Corps, she tried to ignore it. It resulted in the death of a bunch of innocents, the near-death of Armin, and … yeahhhh. It wasn't an intentional betrayal on her part ... she just thought Oliver would stop when she told him to, and that everything would be okay … but it definitely was not. Most people do move on from it eventually, but it takes a long time.
Q. Have they ever been betrayed? Have they ever betrayed someone else?
A. I'm defining the word 'betray' here as: intentionally doing something to oppose a person with whom you share mutual trust with.
Has Eva ever betrayed anyone? In this context, I will say NO. She never intentionally deceived and acted against somebody who wholly trusted on her.
Has Eva been betrayed? Yes. Floch, of course, betrays her on a very intimate level that she will never understand. Also, I'd argue that Pieck betrays Eva. While they were never 'friends', Eva certainly doesn't expect Pieck to turn against her in the way she does. Pieck basically hands Eva over to the Marleyan soldiers during the occupation arc and they have their way with her. I'm undecided on how fucked up i'm going to make her time in imprisonment but … it will not be pleasant.
Q. Have they ever been tortured? Have they ever tortured someone else?
A. Yes, Eva will be heavily tortured during The Occupation Arc. I don't think she's ever tortured anyone … she mainly handled assassinations. Quick in-and-out.
Q. What was the worst mental trauma they have ever sustained?
A. Floch's abuse :,)
Q. What was the worst physical injury they have ever sustained?
A. Floch's first beating and then the torture she endures during The Occupation Arc.
Q. Have any of their physical injuries left a long lasting physical impact on their body? What about psychological?
A. Scars … and I have come to the conclusion just now that she's gonna lose 2 toes during her time in imprisonment. Psychological? With Floch she developed a severe inferiority complex. From her imprisonment on Marley she certainly struggles with PTSD in certain situations. She becomes especially protective and fearful over her children being taken (she does not have kids at the point when she is imprisoned by Marley, but she was kindof in charge of 6 young Yeagerist recruits at the time, four of whom are killed by Marleyans).
Q. Is their family still alive? If yes, how is their relationship with them? If not, how was their relationship with them?
A. No, her family is all dead. She had a sister, Sara, who was about eleven years older than her. Her life pre-fall of Wall Maria was peaceful and quiet; her mother was a nurse, father was an architect. This stable existence turned on its head when the wall fell. Her mother died at a job in Shiganshina, her sister was already in the Military Police, and her father was overcome with grief and was never really the same afterward. Eva was forced to grow up after this, and while Sara would come home on weekends to care for the family, Eva had to take on most of the housework during the week. She stopped attending school full-time, etc., in favor of helping her father. Her father died of an illness (type undecided at this time, but I have to figure it out soon bc it's about to become relavent in NAN), and her sister dies by drinking Zeke's spinal fluid-wine and everything that came with that.
Q. What is their most important relationship? (excluding romantical.)
A. I'm actually going to say Connie here. Connie lets her be herself, is goofy with her, and really just gives her a safe place to figure out who she is outside of her relationships and professional identity.
Q. Do they have any enemies? And does anyone consider them their enemy?
A. Mikasa and Pieck for very different reasons.
Mikasa: she hates Mikasa and will never forgive her. Ever. Even if she acknowledges that her hatred of Mikasa is logically flawed, she does not care. Ultimately Mikasa is who shot Floch, therefore Eva will never forgive her. Who cares if it was war? Eva doesn't. She just cares that Floch was killed, and that Mikasa was the one who did it.
Similarly, Mikasa really does not like The Yeagerists. She has it in her head that, if it weren't for The Yeagerists, then Eren never would have turned out the way he did. She places all of Eren's flaws and plops them onto the Yeagerists, blaming them for his mistakes.
Pieck: Eva never had much of a problem with Pieck, even after Pieck ends up being the reason she is brutally imprisoned for a few weeks. Pieck, however, sees Eva as a zealot, a threat, and overall bad news. They learn to deal with each other after the Occupation Arc, but Pieck never warms to Eva.
Q. What were/are their goals? If they had goals, have they reached them or failed them? If they have goals, do they believe they will reach them, and will they really reach them?
A. Eva had a goal of reaching the Military Police to be like her sister: achieved.
She then loses any real will of her own as her entire identity and purpose becomes wrapped up in Floch, and then The Yeagerists (which, in a way, is still a identity controlled by Floch). Then she's in survival mode until after the Occupation Arc. Post-Occupation, her goal is to just … find peace.
Q. What is their threat level?
A. Not high unless she's been specifically ordered to target somebody. Eva's overall pretty passive, however, she is an excellent assassin and can be quite deadly if she needs to be.
Q. What are their motivations?
A. Pleasing others. Not the sexiest or most badass answer … but … yea.
Q. What is their biggest fear?
A. Her loved ones dying violently. Not really a crazy fear to have, but Floch died in her arms in such a bloody and fucked up state that she absolutely never wants to see that ever, ever again.
Q. It’s late at night, there’s one thing on their mind. What is it?
A. Pretty soon it's gonna become Reiner.
Q. Have they killed anyone? (excluding nameless kills. this question is about killing someone outside of war and outside of randoms.)
A. Yup. She led a little assassination squad in The Yeagerists, so she's gotten her hands dirty.
Q. What is their human kill count? Do they have any failed attempts of significant characters?
A. Oh gee. Hmm. I'll say … 13 assassinations? A bunch of nameless human kills since Yeagerists were fighting humans, not titans.
Q. What is their titan kill count? Solo? In team? Total?
A. Two with the help of Cato when the wine incident happened. She managed to avoid titan combat until that point, though.
Q. What is something that they always carry with them?
A. Nothing. Eva lost her ring from Floch when she went to get him out of the ocean when he got shot.
Q. Do they have a signature weapon?
A. She prefers guns but doesn't have a special type.
Q. What are their Likes?
A. Hizuran tofu pudding, long walks, playing cards with Connie and Jean
Q. What are their Dislikes?
A. Alanna the seamstress, seafood
And lastly!
Q. Is there anything you have been waiting for a chance to yap about regarding your OC? (now’s your time :) )
A. Just gotta read FOL/NAN and find out ;;;;;) My fingers are tired from typing this on my phone so I will conclude my AOT Ask yap here. THANK YOUUUU @reinerbf for making this <3
