Summary:
Gi-hun falls back upon the bed, exhausted from late-night sex with Young-il in the dorms, only to find himself with a dagger at his throat from a man he thought he could trust. A man he might have been coming to love.
A time loop, as viewed by a character not in the loop.
Or, I FINALLY FINISHED MY OTHER INHUN WEEK PIECE… so late.
quick update to say I’m alive lol. I work in DC and things have been… crazy lately 👀👀 but I’m working on fics for the inhun after dark week so hopefully I can be more active then!
When you die you are teleported to the moment of your greatest regret.
Ao3 link
Gi-hun doesn't look up as the players make their choices. He knows the outcome won't change. He stopped trying to influence them dozens of votes ago.
It doesn't matter whether he begs, threatens, or pleads. If he dies in the next game or reaches the final again. Whether he presses the button or not. The result is always the same. The moment he falls asleep the night after the last game, he is teleported to the moment of the first vote.
No matter how hard he tries, he is always faced with inexorable defeat.
It was as if fate wanted him to suffer. Wanted him to relive his worst moments as a punishment for challenging them. For thinking he could save the other players when he couldn't even save himself.
So when the last person casts his vote, it takes him a moment to realize something has changed.
That the wrong, the right side bursts into cheers. That Jung-bae hugs him tightly, and the grimace on his face expresses joy, not disappointment.
Confused, scared to be wrong, he finally dares to look up at the scoreboard.
183 -182
He gasps.
What?
It's impossible, unless...
The crowd begins to disperse, the Xs chatting happily, the Os grumbling under their breath.
The act just like before, as if nothing extraordinary had happened, as if it was in the script from the very beginning.
Jung-bae says something to him, his words drowned out by the prevailing commotion and the blood thumping in his head.
Gi-hun's gaze shifts lower, to the lone man standing by the voting machine.
He knows everyone's moves almost by heart, like the choreography of a deadly dance they repeat over and over.
There are no exceptions, unless he changes something himself. And he didn’t.
Any moment now, Young-il should look at him with a glint of satisfaction in his eyes. A silent challenge he's issuing every time.
Show me what you're made of, hero.
It didn't matter whether he told him the truth immediately or in the days that followed. Regardless of whether he managed to convince him to side with them or not, like every other person around him, he forgot everything when the time was up.
He holds his breath.
Young-il turns around slowly.
But this time, a smug smile is gone. A grimace on his face bitter, regretful.
When their eyes meet, his gaze softens slightly - imperceptibly to outsiders - but Gi-hun spent eternity looking at him. Knowing him.
He shouldn't be looking at him like that. Not now. Not yet.
Realization crashes down on him like a tsunami, the room narrowing to the two of them.
It's real. He's real. He's In-ho. His In-ho.
He takes a step towards him before he can stop himself.
In-ho’s eyes widen. Something flickers in his gaze, as if Gi-hun were the one acting strangely.
Then, slowly, without taking his eyes off him, as if afraid he would disappear if he looked away, In-ho bows his head slightly.
Recognition, admission of defeat. You won, he seems to be saying.
It doesn't seem to bother him in the slightest.
Gi-hun’s heart skips a beat, and for the first time in ages, a spark of hope rekindles within him. For the first time in ages, in a room full of people, Gi-hun doesn't feel alone.
I'm happy to present the prompts and dates for Inhun Week: After Dark!
All the info should be there, but if there's something I've missed, let me know. Would love to hear your thoughts on which prompts stand out to you 😈
have you guys noticed that there have been a lot of posts recently about the baby like this and this and this and this and this or about Inho like this where they always have tons of reblogs from blogs whose names sound eerily similar, the reblogs themselves are either blank or repeat the same sentiment (lion king gif, #abort that thang, hwang inho is a victim too) and when you go to those blogs they're all just endlessly reblogging from each other and one popular squid game blog who's very into johnny depp?
'why does everyone has this opinion?' - they don't. it's just one person sharing it on multiple blogs over and over again.
'why is everyone reblogging the same gif?' - they're not. it's the same person.
one person with a lot of side blogs reblogging their own posts over and over again, reblogging and agreeing with themselves (pretending it's not them) to generate 'notes' to look 'popular' and like their opinions are agreed with and shared. when they're not. it's pretty fucking obvious who it is if you look into it deep enough and normally i wouldn't give a shit, but when you do it to start discourse - you've crossed a line. it's the most bizarre behaviour and frankly a little frightening. but believe me when i say posts that are generating 400-800 notes in the squid game tags are one person.
inhun vampire au when in ho's wife was rebirth as gi hun
Anon honestly this is one of my favorite ideas, and I’ve always wanted to write a story with this concept. I was actually talking to Niterose about a Twilight AU for this like a week ago. It’s utter crack but it could work xD
Essentially in this AU In-ho is part of the Volturi. The default assumption would probably be that he’s Aro, the leader. However, I think Il-nam is more suited to that role and there’s another depressed little guy in the Volturi who suits him a bit more.
Magnus. Magnus is one of the leaders of the Volturi but he basically spends his whole life depressed because his soulmate/wife died several centuries ago. As for who killed her—well it wouldn’t take a genius to guess. Aro (Magnus does not know this).
Gi-hun is Charlie/aka the reincarnation of In-ho’s dead wife.
The divergence would come around the New Moon Era. His foster daughter Sae-byeok has been moping around since her vampire girlfriend Ji-yeon dumped her, and then later has to fly to Italy in order to prevent her from getting getting killed. Gi-hun of course, is just a little more socially aware than canon!Charlie, figures out that his teen daughter left for another country, and chases after her.
This lands him alone in Italy. Where actually, he’s too late to stop anything but he accidentally gets recruited with some of the unsuspecting tourists to be lunch for the Volturi Coven.
