He needed to leave, every time he came around it left her feeling emptier than before he’d stop by. He’d practically broken in, annoyed her, and even tried to kiss her; why hadn’t she just let Finn and Jake pound him into next week? It be so much easier than whatever the hell this was.
Grabbing a clip of the ground she shoved it into his face, “Huh? Look! This clipping! This was you, Simon! Before the War!”
The confusion on his face made her even more frustrated as he blinked back at her face completely blank of any recollection of her. Going through more pictures she recoiled in surprise when he requested she sing for him.
“Marceline, is it just you and me in the wreckage of the world? That must be so confusing for a little girl. And I know you're going to need me here with you... but I'm losing myself, and I'm afraid you're going to lose me, too..."
The words, words from Simon, her Simon, before he’d become this empty shell of himself. The Simon who’d cared and took care of her when he had no obligation to.
As he cheered her on she blinked in surprise scrambling through the pictures breath shaking as Ice King began playing a steady beat.
"This magic keeps me alive, but it's making me crazy, and I need to save you, but who's going to save me? Please forgive me for whatever I do,” her voice cracked tears threatening to spill out at any moment,”...when I don't remember you."
“Wow, I wrote that? Hot stuff,” he called out cheerfully looking more than a little pleased with himself.
Fists tightening she glared at him, “What?! Don’t you remember what it means?”
What I mean, what I meant to you?
Grabbing another picture she shoved it in his face as he sang back to her, "Marceline, I can feel myself slipping away. I can't remember what it made me say... but I remember that I saw you frown. I swear, it wasn't me. It was the crown. This magic keeps me—"
Floating over she picked up her axe bass strumming it as tears streamed down her cheeks joining him in the melody,  "—alive, but it's making me crazy, and I want to save you, but who's going to save me?! Please forgive me for..."
Blinking Marceline groaned at the stream of sunlight hitting her face, sitting up she rubbed at her eyes pulling her hands back she stared at them in surprise. Tears. Her face was wet with fresh tears, taking a shaky breath she hardly remembered why she could have been crying. Humming a soft tune she shook her head reaching over to her phone. Scrolling through her contacts she hesitated before dialing a familiar number. When it went straight to voicemail she felt her heart clench in disappointment shaking it off. It was better this way she mused as she heard a beep.
“Hey Ike...we should meet up this week. Get coffee or something, call me when you get chance ok? Um..bye.”
