epic pied-billed grebe moment… i tried a new technique on him for t-shirt printing… everyone already knows this is my favorite bird but here’s some stuff about it because i LOOOOOVE talking about them and this is MY tumblr and i do what i want!!!!!

pied-billed grebes are GREBES and NOT DUCKS they have different feet and different bills and other things are different but that’s the main visible things

they need vegetated wetland habitat for nesting because they make FLOATING PLATFORM NESTS that are controversial in their ability to generate heat for incubation, some people think it helps incubation and some think it’s largely unimpactful. the heat comes from the reeds they use to build the nests being largely taken from the bottom of the water body they’re on and the decomposition of these plants produces enough heat to keep the nests consistently at a higher temperature than surrounding air/water temps

they have a really sweet call

they carry their babies on their back for the first little bit while they’re too little to swim well

my mom got this gorgeous photo of a female lesser scaup with this super interesting flagpole reflection and i wanted to paint it :)) i dont think sparkbird has mentioned a lesser scaup yet… so my drawing every bird they mention in their songs is still on hold until i finish some more wips but i had so much fun drawing a bird again

Bazooble probably has hidden but shallow scratches from Evil Gangle… if her claws even reach that deep, they have super thick fur. She’s a total brat of a cat who 100% bites when you aren’t petting her and bunny kicks when you do. It’s cool tho, Bazooble doesn’t mind and thinks it’s cute and she’s playing probably. They also get her back by laying on top of her and crushing her because they have apples for brains.

Also instead of the moon effecting them, the sun does. Not sure why… kinda lame for a werewolf I know. I’m thinking like how a full moon makes Zooble go kinda impulse only mode, solar flares do the same for Bazooble? Or some sort of sun spectacle. IDK!!!

Miss Mortis is known by many different names and titles, but is mostly referred to as the god of death. She has been painted out to be some kind of devilish creature, but she hasn’t been seen for hundreds of years… It’s a mystery to humanity if she actually still exists or not.

I hope everyone likes her! She’s one of my favorite characters I’ve ever made 💕!!
