5-min sketch that I ended up really liking, accidentally did the more refined sketch on the same layer as the gesture though. Ehh oh well.

Trying a slightly different way of doing gestures/studies. I love it. Photo is from the pixelovely gesture tool.
Practising blending and colour mixing in Photoshop. Worksheet taken from Matt Kohr’s digital painting tutorial, ctrl+paint. The exercise basically consists of only colour picking from colours A and C in order to create B and the colours in between.
Doing Inktober this year! Been wanting to do it for a while, so yeah. Here’s hoping I can stick to it.
Gonna attempt to learn how to do spotting blacks properly throughout October. So many things wrong with this, ahahah.
5-min studies using http://artists.pixelovely.com/practice-tools/figure-drawing/. Need to practise male anatomy more, as well as longer drawings; I’m used to drawing super quickly for 30-60s poses. Found a new brush that I really like though. Probably gonna use that as my default for gestures.
Thumbnail studies based off photos and environment concept art.
Working on a reference sheet. Also butts because they’re fun to draw. I feel like my anatomy (particularly legs) and proportions are so so much stronger after the like 5 figure drawing classes I’ve had at Uni so far.
First time animating. Making the ball was really cool, got to use the principles of squash & stretch and anticipation first hand. The cat run cycle was referenced off a Muybridge plate like this (can’t find the exact one I used for some reason). Would like to do more of those.
Value study of this photo. WIP. Need to work more on human face proportions. Values a bit too dark.
Some actually current art! Need to do more of these value studies. And human face studies. Aaah.
NUA.
Progress shot.
NUA.
I used Shadowbox to create the initial rough model to work from.
NUA.
Preliminary sketches to kinda work out the design of the gargoyle. Having not worked with 3D before, I chose to do these in 2D so I’d have something to work with.
Work on the second module at NUA.
So I’m back. Well, I’ve kinda been back for a while, when it comes to art anyway, just haven’t been using social media much. I’d like to change that, start using this tumblr more again as it’s such a nice archive of all my work from the past, what, 6 years? But yeah. Mostly for my own purposes but whatever: ended up dropping out of the Norwich University of the Arts back in, uh, 2015? Went for a year doing nothing (but still living in Norwich), then got 2/3 of my mental illnesses mostly dealt with, which let me get a shitty night shift minimum wage corporate factory job fixing iPhones. Doing that for 2 months made me more sure than ever that art is what I want to do with my life, no matter what; every day (night) I was left exhausted after fixing phones all night, and had no energy to do anything but watch anime and play League or Pokemon. The only constructive thing I did was work on my Japanese in breaks at work, and read Kafka or manga while walking home for 1~1.5 hours as the buses didn’t start running until 6:30, while I finished work before 6.
So, while on my week off, I started looking into different work, mainly Norwegian<->English translation type jobs, as I’d be able to do them from home as a freelancer. Happened upon a job posting by SEGA Europe for a Norwegian Localisation QA Tester in London. Applied for it, and got to the language test phase. Meanwhile, me and my partner were moving from airbnb to airbnb, finally arriving in London. Did the interview with SEGA, and actually got the job. However, as we couldn’t for the life of us find any decent housing (council was no help whatsoever), we ended up having to move back to my partner’s parents’ place in Scotland. After staying there for a while, I had to make the decision of either going to London on my own (my partner would follow me whenever I’d manage to find housing), or staying in Scotland with my partner. Chose the latter. A couple weeks and a lot of Overwatch later, we both ended up going back into education. My partner to college in order to get their qualifications to go to Uni for possibly physics, and me to Abertay University for Computer Arts.
So yeah. That’s my story so far I guess. Here’s to actually succeeding at art school this time. Most of my posts are probably going to be reblogs from my separate blogs for each of my Uni modules, but yeah. We’ll see.
Random sketches. The bear is referenced.
Messing around with Clip Studio Paint Pro (the download/digital version of Manga Studio). I like it a lot. I'll probably start using it as my default sketching/inking programme, and then move things over to SAI to paint them (unless Clip Studio does painting better than SAI; I've yet to try that part of it).
Also I still need to learn how to draw humans aaargh
