Absurd, perhaps, but absolutely necessary. As a young dragon, Remus needed to learn restraint. Without it, he risked crossing others of his kind- older and volatile creatures with little care for his inexperience. Dark eyes followed him from where she stood at the entrance to the boardwalk, watching and waiting for the young man to make his next move. She waited for neither success nor failure. Esmeralda waited for progress.

For a brief moment, the dragon boy nearly stooped right where he stood to curl around the tiny morsel of shine. The burning blood that settled from his throat to his fingertips had a certain need for it and the crowd had long since been forgotten. His eyes lost their focus on the curling waves beyond them, but Remus remained rooted to his spot. He hadn’t the confidence to move, but had plenty enough stubbornness not to.  

His jaw was set in dismay at all of the world that stumbled over this little coin. “It is being wasted.”
