“If they’re free possibly. If not, I’ll have to pass, since I’m pretty much broke. And don’t have a job at the moment.”
Seems like Remy just doesn't even want to stay in LA. Think she'll stick around?
I’m not sure. I’d like to see her stay and find her way in a new city. But, if she’s truly not happy here, then there’s not much anyone can do about it. It’s up to her.
“Grammy, you can thank your Grandson for me staying. Looks like you and Grandpa will have to put up with me a little longer, until I can find a place to stay.”
Grammy will you still love me if I move out?
Of course. Honestly, I wish you all would’ve left a month ago. You’re all too noisy, I miss my peace. And Grandpa is getting, what was the word? Thirsty?
“Oh, jeeze, Grammy...Please....I don’t want to hear about Grandpa getting thirsty...”

“I’ve gotten to the point in my life where I spend my lunch breaks scouring the internet for some sign of a decent upcoming horror film, only to be sorely disappointed by what looks like glorified over hyped jump scares. Why’s it so hard to come out with a good horror film?”
“Because horror movies are some of the cheapest movies to make, and anybody with a camera phone and a computer can put crap out into the world. Let’s face it. The days of a decent horror film are few and far between now.”
erikarayner:
“I finally bit the bullet and quit my job today. I feel so refreshed, I’m gonna go eat my body weight in McDonalds.”
“Hard thing to do, but props for being able to do it. I’d join you, but the last time I had Micky D’s, I ended up spending two solid days in the bathroom.”
miasmh:
“so today a very concerned client came with her dog because he had suddenly become lethargic and nervous and was peeing at random times. so i thought he might’ve been poisoned or something in the like and i started asking related questions, the mom was very confused while the daughter seemed suspiciously nervous and evasive until she finally admitted that the dog somehow found and ate her marijuana stash. i mean, i get it’s legal now but it’s moments like this when i wonder if it’s really worth it.”
“Seriously? I’ve never actually encountered that before. Of course, I come from a really small town. So what course of action did you take? My apologies for intruding...It’s just, I’m a Vet Tech back home, and it would be valuable information to know. But, more importantly, is the dog okay?”
nolxnderson:
“It’s a long story, but I needed to relocate my family,” he shrugged, offering a hand. “Nolan.”
“Whoa, really? Is everyone okay? California is definitely the place to do it as big as this state is.” Remy noticed his hand and met it with her own giving Nolan a good firm handshake. “It’s nice to officially meet you, Nolan. I’m Remy.”
alexagrhm:
“Want to hear a secret? This sandwich tastes ten times better than it looks. Just saying. You should totally get one.”
“Dammit, Lex...You were a bad influence on me then, and you’re still a bad influence on me now...You’re the enemy here. Quit trying to make me like you again.”
reid-vossler:
“Just because I’m two years older that doesn’t mean I’m any better at navigating a city other than Aurora. I’m sure you even know way more about life than I do anyway.” He smiled softly when he felt the weight of the bed shift and her shoulder leaning into his, Reid looking up and over at Remy before he tried to help answer some of her questions. “I know people. I’ve met a few vets through my classes and trips we’ve taken, I’m sure I could talk to them. And Remy, I thought I missed my opportunity years ago too. I’m twenty-five and just now starting classes, I didn’t think I would make it that far.” He gave a little laugh at her last concern, nodding his head. “I know. But Remy, there are people all over Los Angeles always looking for roommates. This will be my second one and I don’t think I’ve had any problems yet. We can find you a place.”
“Have you gotten out and explored any since you’ve been here?” She glanced up to him. That’s all Remy had been trying to do. Take in the city while she could. Of course that had been before she had ever had the inkling to stay. “Networking. That’s all Dr. Davis kept telling me over and over again back home. If I ever decided to move out of Aurora...make sure you know how to network. Guess I’m networking through you?” She had hoped he would be able to find her something. If Remy was going to make this moving thing permanent, she wanted to enjoy what she was doing and not have to start all over. She couldn’t handle working at another bar or in fast food. “But you know, college has just never been a desire...I don’t know...I’m more street smart than book smart. You know that.” The roommate thing. She didn’t even want to think about that right now. Everything was overwhelming her all at once.
kalebmoran:
“Yea, I mean, he’s bound to have met people in the business already so I’m sure he could hook you up. You’re both going into the same business? How’d that happen? Could you imagine trying to work the machine and steam shoots out and just burns your crotch or something? I see your point now. I feel like Ryan’s a nice enough dude to be cool with it, ya know? Wow, jerk move, jerk move.”
“Hopefully, because if I’m gonna stay here, I’m gonna need a job. Farm life. When you grow up around animals all your life, you kinda find a passion in wanting to help them.” She snorted at his mention of steam shooting out and hitting him in the crotch. “One good thing about being a girl.” A grin spread across her face. “Eh, yeah...since he wouldn’t be the one getting hit in the crotch with hot steam. I know. It’s one of my many talents...being a jerk. Ask Reid.”
alexagrhm:
“No, no. Go on. I’m not ignoring you. I’m just fucking starving, sorry. Anyways, you were saying?”
“Well...actually...I don’t really remember what I was saying, because you’re making that sandwich look way too good...Why am I hungry again? I just ate...”
kalebmoran:
“But you have the experience. If schooling is required I’m sure any place around her would work with you while you got certification just to get you in there because you know what you’re doing already. And I don’t think it takes as long for vet technicians to get their requirements as it does for vets themselves, right? And hey, working at Starbucks is a perfectly respectable job…at least they’re working and most people wouldn’t get by without their coffee so they’re very much needed. I resent that. I’m sitting here having a perfectly nice conversation with you and trying to help and you generalize my gender.”
“I guess you’re right. I suppose a leg up in the business back home is still a legit leg up here. I don’t know. My brother’s going to school to be an actual vet. Maybe he can do me a solid and find someone who needs help. Oh, for sure. But just because it’s a respectable job for some, doesn’t mean I’d be good at it, especially in California...the land of the rich and famous. Could you imagine what it’d be like to screw up Ryan Gosling’s order and get yelled at? I don’t want to be that girl. And yes, you are, and yes, I am.”
jake-carter:
Okay so Jake had a tendency to overnap. It was a real issue for him and when he woke up with like ten minutes to spare, he used at least two of those minutes kicking himself. He likes to think he’s a good friend and although he’s only ever done painting with a twist like twice but he figured it was probably a better option than rock climbing considering it was mid-50s even in LA.
When he did arrive he was greeted by Remy whom he guessed had planned like a sensible person and hadn’t overnapped right before meeting a friend for something. Especially since this was his idea, after all. He covered the distance pretty quickly, realizing the woman up at the front was already addressing everybody. Without much fuss he slid into the empty seat beside her and gave her an apologetic smile, “Listen my cats were so happy on the couch that I couldn’t get up. You know how it is.” He laughed quietly, “How are you?”
When Remy heard the woman, leading the class, begin to speak, she immediately shoved her phone back in her pocket. She may have been a bit of a hellion back in school, but she still knew when to listen and pay attention. There was nothing worse than not hearing something simple and looking like the class fool. However, Jake coming through the door caught her eye. It was like a wave of relief washed over her body, and she could breathe again. She wouldn’t be doing this alone, now that her best friend had arrived, “You and those damn cats...and this is coming from someone who loves cats. Dogs more. But cats are nice, too, except they do some weird things when they mate...”
Shifting her attention back to the instructor, she made sure to get all the important stuff down, before turning back to Jake, “So, you’ve done this before...You can pretty much lead the way...Also, I wasn’t entirely sure if we needed to bring our own alcohol, so I snagged this before I left home.” Remy pulled out a bottle of Scotch, from her jacket pocket, that was older than she was.
nolxnderson:
“Ah, see? Already startin’ to feel like home,” he smiled cheekily. “Anything domestic. I need it to taste like home, regardless of how shitty the beer actually is.”
“Yeah, yeah. Just don’t rub it in.” She laughed. “Domestic it is. So, what brought you back here, Mr. No Name?”
reid-vossler:
“You don’t have to go.” It had slipped out before Reid could stop it and he kept his eyes glued on the box in front of him. He knew he and Mackenzie wouldn’t have room for another roommate and that living with Grammy wasn’t the best solution but he didn’t want his sister to leave. Things had seemed…so much easier with her here and if she left he felt like things would feel so much more overwhelming like they had before. “I don’t want you to go. I may look like I have a handle on this place but…I’m a mess out here, Remy. I’m terrified of all the new experiences and yes, I have Dylan to help me, something I’m very grateful for, and I’ve made friends but…having you here is different.”
He had actually wanted her to stay. Sure, she knew somewhere deep down he wouldn’t have minded his little sister being there, but to hear it voiced out loud was different. To hear him actually say he needed her was different. “But you’re my big brother...you’re supposed to have a handle on things?” Quickly wiping the tears from her eyes, she moved towards him, before sitting down next to him leaning her shoulder into his good one. “What am I gonna do about a job though? My life’s back home? Besides, it’s not like I could afford to go to college. I’m not as smart as you, and I think I missed that opportunity several years ago.” She looked up to him. “Plus, there’s the whole Grammy thing. I love her and Grandpa to death, but come on...they’re, like, the ultimate cock block.”

James: I don't accept that answer.
James: But I appreciate the Star Wars reference.
Remy: Fine. I'm an impostor that you texted by accident.
Remy: It was just too good of a text to pass up, okay?

“Okay but here’s the important question. Is it scarier to think we’re alone in the universe, or that were aren’t?”
“Well, that depends. Are we friends of aliens or foes? Because if we’re foes, then I think it would be scarier knowing we aren’t alone. When has television or movies ever portrayed aliens as being dumber than humans?”
