Final Major Project - Week 8
First day of the final week for my FMP was quite informative. From having my finished scenes and frames, instead of using Adobe Animate to piece the animation together, I instead used Adobe Premiere to connect all the seperate frames. While tiresome it became over the day of editing I did however see more errors in my animation which i discovered whilst editing. I saw that a few frames had a few inconsistencies (Excluding the cloud continuitity) which I am very thankful for finding out because it means I can correct the frames once I return home.
On the second day I continued to edit my animation making sure all the scenes flowed well and so that some scenes didn’t linger long enough for it to be irriatating. The last time I exported and viewed my animatic I heard that the sound of the video was quite low so this time round I changed the volume for all the voice overs and music I used so that it is audiable. I did run itno a problem when editing which was finding a method of how to create speed lines of motion (Facing forward) which was from this scene.
The 1 was my first attempt at creatind inward speed lines, 2 was my second failed attempt
Thankfully though I found a video that I didn’t realise I you could overlay a video on top of an image which was amazing to discover. This now meant the image of the idea I had come up with in my mind had been achieved. I must say that there was one scene in the animation that irriated me, which was the part when the top of the tower (having been slashed) falls it doesn’t keep to the consistent movemment pace of the animation as a whole. I could say the same for the bat the Detail cops used but I feel the slow movement of the bat being swung helped to establish the idea he was about to hit s Simple civilian.
In addition after I did finished editing my animation video I was quite happy with the effort and time I had used to create this piece, I do think however I will go back to edit it once more to be extra careful and make sure all the scenes are great.
The next day i didn’t do too much work other than creating a first draft of my Evaluative Statement. The next day however was a lot more aggravating because of the editing issues I ran into with premiere pro and the computer I was using constantly kept logging me out. This also meant I lost time because of this issue which is something I did not want to lose especially with my hand in being the next day.
Research - Strong Influences
Drawn to Life & Scribblenauts
Interestingly enough, both these Nintendo DS games focused on using drawing as an aspect to bring there world to life, using this power as a narrative weapson, allowing the gamer to let their imagination be the one thing that can run wild. While Scribblenauts uses the mechanic of typing the word then summoning it, Draw to Life lets you draw your character and alter him how you see fit.
Final Major Project - Easter, Week 6&7
Considering this was the first week of work in the Easter holiday it has been long, tiresome but informative as well. Because I had finished the drawing and shading of the backgrounds (the portion I found to be the least exciting), I found respite when I had begun to animate my scenes and the frames within them. There were times through the week I thought of ways to create a good animated piece keeping with the small time frame and also having to keep the quality and the message consistent. It was not easy.
However from my difficulties I grew as an animator making considerations to thinking of different ways to express the personality of the character through his actions rather than his words, since I would be narrating over the course of the animation. A prime example of this is something I am quite proud of:
A breakdown on why the new scene is better than the original
On the other hand however, I was very dishearted I could not draw the backgrounds traditionally rather than digitally. It would have reinforced the idea that the world I was making was indeed something that could be mind with a creative imagination, a pencil and paper. So instead to try to stay true to this idea, I chose to use a pencil tool on my digital drawing program that has a pencil-like texture.
Example of the pencl tool and it’s texture
There was also the issue of I did not own a scanner or have access to one during the week so I couldn’t even scan my traditional backgrounds even if I tried to. I also couldn’t go forward with the idea of the bird that is outside the window would fly away which was annoying to say the least but understandable because of how taxing creating the expressive movement of jumping down off the bed. I had the idea of the protagonist walking or jumping out of scene but I eventually thought of how even the motion of the character getting out of bed and standing is enough to suggest his need to move as if he has somewhere to be.
In addition, as I draw closer to my own personal deadline I started to clearly see scenes that I would consider redundant and or unnecessary in terms of effectiveness to providing a feeling and to convey that feeling. so I scrapped them.
Frames A&B were completely unnecessary in the grand scheme of things. I had already established that the protagonist would be leaving the house when they exited, the fact that we’d still have to follow the character to see the laborarious task of running around the corner is something I see as completely unneeded.
As for Frame C i thought of how I could just show the second tower with the Detail king on could be shown with a shot I had already created. I was very glad with this decision considering it meant I had more time to finish other frames.
What really irritated me about the scenary is that I eventually had to scrap most of the detail from scenary I had researched for the sake of time purposes and considering it would have taken too long to add to my current scenes I felt this was the best choice.
One other animation trick I thought of using for fast movement was this frame.
I stretch the character’s body proportion as a way to create false illusion of movement, something going so fast it would take the appearance of the character moving multiple frames.
Research - The Use of Medium as a Narrative Device
Morph
Morph and his friend Chas is a series of clay stop-motion comedy animations, named after the main character. While I do not plan to use 3D animation as a medium in this project, how it is used to create life is an interesting concept. What also makes Morph so loveable is the fact that you speend a short time with him (Because the process of creating a clip takes a long time.)
Logorama
Unlike ‘Morph’ Logorama uses literal brands and business names to create a surreal world where everying is embodied by a a brand.corporate consumerism. It is a fairly hidden discussion on corporate consumerism how everything is now owned by such things. It’s a unique concept because of how it usesthese brands to speak it’s mind behind it’s hidden layer.
Out of the Ink Well
Similar to ‘Morph’, the barrier between real life and drawings started to come together. While I don’t plan to incorporate this idea into my project, I still admire how well animated it is. Not to mention the correction of each frame to be able to make it look as if the drawing really is blending with reality.
Research - The importance of Music
For my animation I chose to include three songs that would help captivate three distinct feelings I wanted to bring out. The three songs I chose were Neon Genesis Evangelion’s version of ‘Fly me to the Moon by Frank Sinatra’ which was covered by Claire Littley and which acted as it’s ending theme, another theme music titled ‘Decisive Battle’ and the final song I used is one by Eevee called ‘House of memories’.
Neon Genesis Evangelion - “Fly me to the Moon”
The reason I chose this song is because of the feeling that it brings. It is quite calming and invokes a feeling of love and longing too. It speaks volumes to how well it relates to the characters in the anime, mostly relating to Shinji and Asuka.
Both characters face the idea that if they don’t fight for the world using their collassal mechanisms known as Evangelions (EVAS for short) they face the possibilitity of them being seen as useless. I think it shows a lot to how as they become so depend to prove themselves using the EVAs, some artists can too depend on the idea that a ‘Drawing Style’ is something that can define them. While this can be considered true in the aspect that having a ‘specific drawing style’ is unique, it doesn’t define themselves as artists. This is why I think this song would work well for the beginning section of my animation, it works to ease the auidience into the message I will be giving.
Neon Genesis Evangelion - “Decisive Battle”
As for the reason I chose one of the battle themes from the show is because I need a song that proved to invoke the feeling of urgency and importance. For example, like when Shinji is defending his home from enemies because it could be the possible extinct of humanity, for artists we try to hasten our progress to find and claim a drawing style for our self and we think this to be a matter to whether which decides if we are actually an artist with or without it. Both follow the idea that the battle in the present defines them.
Eevee - “House of Memories”
To complete the ascent, the climax and eventual falling action I discovered this song to fit the conclusion of my message. The purpose for this was to draw in the audience with a slightly energtic song, eventually leading to the conflict of the story which then leads back to a calm ending as if it was comforting the artists who lack confidence to become better. If I ended on a strong and energtic tone it would ruin the message I wanted to convey to the audience at a reasonable pace; going fast would only bring hype, I wish to motive them in a more subtle way.

Final Major Project - Week 5
In my fifth week, I’ve started to digitise my very rough story boards digitally, and I seem to be on a steady course for now with drawing them out. However, there is an idea that came mind in relation to how scenes are animated. I realised that some scenes could require separate parts of the frame to be separate items that can be altered according to how I’d want the story to be visually told. For example in some shows they utilise focal changes to create realisations and for dramatic effect. I could use this technique withn my own animation for this scene.
I also had by one to one tutorial with my tutor Joe which we went through my work and progress thus far which he found to be going well. However he did point out a few issues I haven’t settled yet which I will do now. In the tutorial we discussed aims for this animation was to be very informative and lecture-esque even. Similar to the works of online creators ‘Life Noggin’ and ‘School of Life’ which both create an engaging videos that are both educational and there by informative as well. Lecture through animation as in how I plan to tell my subjective opinion on the matter that has me narrating over the animation. Also very similar to Youtube animaators TheOdds1out and JaidenAnimations who tell engaging stories and thoughts through animation.
In addition, after seeing different methods of informing the audience in an engaging way, I thought of the idea of it being told as a voice over narration rather than hearing character voices. Not only would my voice make it more personal as a whole but it also means I wouldn’t have to look for or hire a voice actor to do the narration for me.
The topic on how I plan to inform my audience in regards to tone was brought up as well. At first the idea of the characters talking and interacting with each other was a concept I considered but in the end I didn’t have the time to hire or ask for someone to voice for my characters. Ultimately, the narration should suit the tone of the animation and the world that work embodies. Fairly often, works that are fantasy and unreal in nature use an old voice that could link to a wise narrator or a character in the story that has begun to recount the events that took place. These are present in works like Gurren Lagan which the narrator speaks usually in the beginning that acts as a recount of the previous episode that helps give the audience information on what is currently going on. In relation to my animation and considering that I will be using my very own voice I experimented with different tones that would help suit the atmosphere of the tale.I tried an energic voice, a mellow voice, a very monotone voice and a endearing voice tone. I eventualy settled on the endearing voice tone because I felt it conveyed a better feeling of how personal I found the messge of my project to be. The use of the monotone or energetic tone I felt would have brought the viewer out of the experience. Which is why I went to the CLS for a decent voice recorder to use.
My Aims:
In addition, the message I wanted to speak to the audience about is how for one, you don’t have to be embrassed of your own style because you can be comfortable in your own drawing style. Two however, if you want to better your style you should use the help others give you and take your external influences to improve your style. The third point is to set a goal and challenge yourself to able to achieve and overcome them. And final when you do and you have overcome this you can be proud of your progress you’ve made so far. Overall the purpose of my project is to be able to change the audience’s mind for who ever that is currently going through the struggle of improving their drawing style because they feel inadequate. So for this to be done I thought that if i wanted to accurately be able to pass on this message I could characterise it in the style system the world in habits. Hence why the drawing styles are categorised in this way from Simples, to Roughs and lastly to the Details.
Lastly for this week I completed my rough animatic. It was surprising how tiring and important the editting phase of animation is. It really gave me a new perspective on the matter. It is definately something I will consider when I edit again for my updated scenes.

Final Major Project - Week 4
In this week, I decided to experiement with different ways to add life to my animation by using colours and textures. I previously used watercolours on my previous project ‘Tell Me a Secret’ to add a grity colour and feel to my Noire Detective theme I was aiming for.
Reference Photos from my ‘Tell Me a Seceret’ Animatic
For this animation I am conducting on my Final Major Project, to suit the up beat and informative tone of my animation I should aim to use a slightly colourful background. Hence Why I experimented with colour on a bird and on the environment.
Intially, earlier on in the project I had the idea to use colour as a narrative device to help convey my the idea that as more colour is added to the world the Details would grow to appreciate the Simple and the Roughs. However, in the end I had to exclude this idea from my story because not only would it prolong the story and subsequencially the animation length but it also made it difficult to concentrate on the points being made with the visual aniamtion, the two didn’t connect well. Hence why i decided to keep the idea of having a world filled with some colour that would look like paint splats or just random blotches in the background to give the idea that everything is still unfinished. This also helps me in terms of animation sine it means I don’t have to concentrate a lot of my time on the colouring of thr background and so I can focus more on the subtle details, allowing the audience to find it easier to digest the information I will be giving them verbally. The potential even presents itself for me to even add colour to certain objects that could be important in relation to the scene that would be going on. In adition, while Studio Ghibli are influences for me as to how I want by background to look, the amount of detail that goes into each scene is both something I do not have to time to produce nor is it necessary in relation to my animation. However the innocence that goes into many of the films is one aspect of the films I want to take into my backgrounds.
The importance of the incorporation of ‘The Tower of Babel’
I previously I had some trouble with creating a tower/citadel because I ran into the problem on the size of the tower was difficult to decide because it could possibly hold all (or most of the details). After trying to find monuements and towers that would relate to the one I was tryign to create, I found the Biblical story of the Tower of Babel interesting. Of how it is a city and a tower at the same time that is tall enough to reach heaven. Even though there is no real life record of such a city tower, the various art work I’ve found do the tower justice in my opinion. Hence why I find the purpose of the tower interesting, especially because it shows so much power.
I also briefly looked at how Disney told stories in the movie ‘Hercules’ using the art on the Greek Urns. The purpose for ths was to understand how they used those art to tell a story. Similar to how Eygyptians used hieroglyphs to record history.
Surprisingly enough, I had the idea of involving a fourth secret demographic or style race that would have been called ‘The Intorables’. They were supposed to be diferent types of drawing varying from each other and having a style that wouldn’t usually be seen as a well liked style but more like a style you’d just draw and coem up with out of boredom. Similar to the ‘DoodleBob’ from the Spongebob Square Pants episode ‘Frankendoodle‘. The idea came to me when I thought of how in Fullmetal Alchemist (Both the manga and the anime) there is are the Ishvalans who are an ethno-religious group identified by their ethnicity but are discrimated against the wider population because of there appearance. Another similarity that can be drawn was in the 1970′s United States of America and the racism and discrimation Black African-Americans faced consistently. Why they eventually fought for their rights to live equally.
Photo of DoodleBob, the Ishvalans and the African Americans in 1970s
The idea of these ‘bad drawings’ also came to me from the ‘Wall of Pride’ me and my class mates created in our Film and Animation class. Where it show cases a multitude of different ideas, drawings, doodles, styles and even meme culture as well.
Wall of Pride - Mood Board
Research: Steven Sugar
Steven Sugar is the brother of showrunner Rebecca Sugar as well as the inspiration for main character Steven Universe. He works for Cartoon Network as a background artist for Steven Universe.
Sugar’s ability to capture the innocence and almost sublime nature of the environment that Steven Universe has is impressive. He deliberately separates the different gradients of each colour. It’s a simple technique that helps to not overload the mind with information and instead breaks it down and gives you the most necessary information that we’d need to understand what is happening within the story and it personally I think it is quite efficient but also gives the world a unique style to the cartoon.
What I really admire about his backgrounds is how simple they can be broken down. Say for this example background of Steven’s bedroom from the cartoon.
All these aspects of Sugar’s style to creating bakground art are one of the reasons why I incorporated his style into my animation project called ‘Give It Away’ and why now I plan to use it for my current animation project for my background work to the best of my ability.
Final Major Project - Week 3
This week was much slower than Week 2 because of the heavy snow and lack of heating, but considering that however I did learn quite a bit. Even from my group seminar and meeting Isabel.
The intial start of the week consisted of deciding on how i would be able to portray the tower/citedel that would present the symbol of power the Details possess. The reason for the long structure idea was because I need to show the progression of grow as you improve and strive to better yourself. Which is why I used a literal high tower to compare to grow and with Sketch reaching the top of the tower he has grown more than even he realises.
The problem I faced was that I couldn’t think of a good design that would be large enough to show power but at the same time have an architectual design that suits the setting.
The Tower/Citedel - Early Concept Design
The top left sketch was me rough out an idea as to how all the locations in the world would connect and even now I still haven’t fully figured it out yet. The earliest drawing of the tower on the right side was very much Fairy Tale-like and I felt that it didn’t suit the architectual tone I had in mind. In addition, the design I had on the bottom left was somewhat going towards what I was looking for with the design being fairly modern but still more advanced than the houses below it. I also ran into the problem of what would actually be in the tower because I know the Tyrant King would be at the top but I went through the debate of would some of the Details be living in the tower, would it be all the Details or would it be only the King that lives there? This was a situation that bothered me quite a lot because it meant I would have to increase the size of the tower if Details did live there. But of course there wouldn’t be much of them because since the Details are supposed to be a simlarity to the rich class as well, the rich are always outnumbered by the poor.
Building Mood Board - The Architectual Tone I’m Drawing Inspiration From
The Tower/Citedel - Concept Design
The top left is an ancient idea of the tower where possibly the ‘Power’ was found and the Details could have built and developed their tower now into what it is in the present. It would work great if I wanted to create a visual transistion that showed the old tower in the past and the tower now are one and the same. The tower on the right side is ironically a much more simpler design for the Details, however the clouds that circle the tower and the style and shape of them is something I want to keep consistent through my animation. The middle tower design was the most promising design I had thought up so far. The fact that it spiralled upward reminds me of the anime ‘Toppa Tengen Gurren Lagann’ and their idea that drills and spirals mean the concept of people being ale to break past their limitations. So the idea that the tower goes up like a spiral soldlifies the idea that the Details have grown and evolved so much more compared to the Roughs and Simples.
Male Character Design for the Simples, Roughs and Detail
I’m fairly happy with the majority of the character designs for the Roughs and the Details but while I do like the appearance of Simples literally being simple shapes, I feel like I’m not completely counting the drawing styles that are considered bad and or simple.
Female Character Design for the Simples, Roughs and Detail
A simple issue I’m having with the female character sheet too
Tyrant King Character Sheet
I am quite fond of the character design of the Tyrant King. I modelled his likeness after the statue of Saint David which I found very appropriate when considering the position and status the Detail has being revered as the best style. And with realism being considered this is also important when creating this character. He had to have an air of power, hence his physical appearance being very fit. The crown and fur crown just help to reinforce the position of the character.
The advice Isabel gave me was to record my voice for the script with appropriate pauses to understand how long the entire animation would be, which I then found out was 5 minutes and 45 seconds. She then advised me to cut down my script to make it easier to animate so that it could end up to be around 2 minutes which is hard to accept. I understand animating a scene with fluid movement makes the time need to finish it very long but I cannot see myself being able to cut down or condense my story into something as small as 2 minutes.
Protagonist Research
These are my main influences for my main character called Sketch who derives from the category of ‘Roughs’ from my planned aniamtion tale. These influences are KO, Sonic the Hedgehog, Son Goku and Sun WuKong (From Left to Right)
K.O. - O.K. K.O. Let’s Be Heroes
K.O. is an eager young boy who wishes to be one of the world's greatest heroes and to make his mom proud of it. He is willing to learn anything that would make him a great hero, such as friendship. He is extremely loyal to his place of work called the ‘Lakewood Plaza Turbo’. He is also optimistic about anything that comes his way. He has a strong willpower and courage but is very naive.
Sonic the Hedgehog
Sonic is said to be a drifter that is always on the move and is noted for being free-spirited and adventurous. He values freedom above all else and strives to live his life according to his own rules rather than the standards of those around him or for the sake of heroism and duty, never thinking twice about what other people say or think.
Born to run, Sonic enjoys nothing more than traveling the world. Endowed with a strong passion for enjoying life, he is never in one place for long and always moves forward to look for his next challenge, making his life a never-ending series of adventures. Because of his need for freedom, Sonic loathes the idea of being constrained, and being cooped up for too long makes him twitchy and restless. He also possesses at times a short temper. In addition, because of his impulsive nature, Sonic can be reckless and quick to act before thinking, throwing himself into trouble without a second thought and regards for others' warnings. Nevertheless, he is honest and always keeps his promises. strong sense of justice and fair play, and firmly stands for truth and freedom.
Son Goku - Dragon Ball Series
In the original Dragon Ball manga and anime, Goku was depicted to be known for his energetic and caring personality. Goku is also pure of heart, possessing no negative feelings or thoughts and highly loyal to his friends and family, even willing to sacrifice himself to save others. Despite his genuine compassion for others, Goku's ignorance at times comes off as a lack feeling familial ties, but rather views his family simply as companions.
Sun Wu Kong - Journey to the West
In the Journey to the West story, Wu Kong’s most prominent personality trait is bravery and fearlessness. Wu Kong is a confident, optimistic person. He doesn't just go down when he faces hardships, he devises ways to overcome them, putting a smile on his face even when he has been defeated numerous times. In short, Sun Wu Kong symbolises hope, justice, and the fighting spirit that we all possess.

Final Major Project - Week 2
The main struggle I faced this week was the attempt to form a a coherent, short and easy-to-take in story. It was difficult becuse I either thought of the story to be too long for my FMP or it was much too short to even create a story that would be able to pass on the message I wanted to convey. There were other factors I had to simultaneously consider. For example, I had to think of how the environment would be small enough for my protagonist to be able to navigate through my world’s environment so the design of the world and how everything is placed was important to be able to show the interactions within this world. In the end I had to deal with how my environment I wanted to create would be organised so that each style would intereact with one another and making sure the interactions are seen are vital. This made it increasingly difficult to create.
Establishing the different styles within the world
I also played around with the different styles that would relate to the different sections of the world the protagonist lives in. For A the ‘Simples’ drawing style I wanted to create a more cartoonish and simplified shape for the scenic props and objects like the trees and bushes. This is so that the trees and objects are able to be identified by it’s simplest form which still requires consideration because if the size of each object varies I could accidentally make one object to be perserved to be another.
For B, I made the shapes more dynamic and gives more of an impression to suit the ‘Roughs’ drawing style. This time I added small little details that can make it more distinct on it’s own. Furthermore, because my protagonist is a part of the Rough category it means I would use that style more than the others.
As for C, I wanted to illustrate that this style is indeed the most detailed so I added even more small details like adding more leaves of the trees and bushes and giving the shape of the trees and bushes more definition by adding stronger shading. I also wanted to make the appearance more appealing than the other two to give this false idea that detail is better than the other two categories which actually helps if it is observed in the scenery and environment.
In addition, I didn’t like the how I used the cubes to try to identify the different drawing styles since my examples are already established in the A, B and C examples I had drawn. I wasn’t too fond of that so I want to try and find a way to utilise this idea in a better way.
My experimentation with different ways to shade, texture and draw using crosshatching, smudging etc...
Rough Protagonist Character Design
Here are my rough drawings of my protagonisr named ‘Sketch’ which I predominately focused on the head design of the characters. My inspiration for this design and his personality are because of KO (from OK KO Let’s Be Heroes), Sonic the Hedgehog (Of the same Franchise) Son Goku (From Dragon Ball) and Sun Wukong the Monkey King (From the Chinese story Journey to the West)
All these characters have a similar personality of being protectors but also finding love in the world they live in which is something I found sweet. So I wanted to incorporate the small body form and use that for my character. The Sonic CD opening Toei animation was a massive influence for my character.
In my Group Seminar I had this week, I was given insight on how i should go about structuring my story being the story was lore heavy, thinking of a solution to provide the necessary information for the plot and maybe even include a few visual story telling two. As I said it was still a tough time afterwards because I had to complete my story so that it wasn’t too long to be able to animate.
FMP - Story Reflection
At first I had the idea of creating a problem in the story, being the protagonist being unreluctant to change his opinion of the world in accurdance to the society he lives in, and eventually ending with the protagonist facing an architypical villain with a fight scene and all. However, when thinking in the grand scheme of things, the fight scene wouldn’t be necessary with the message i wanted to present even if how awesome i thought the outcome could be. If i followd a similar narrative structure to ‘The Journey to thre West’ it would better suit the message I would want to convey. I still need to complete my vision entirely before I can say it will work fine, I need to make sure I am most effective.
Final Major Project - Week 1
The first week for my Final Major Project was trickier than I anticipated.
Tuesday involved me making sure my project proposal was done correctly before i decided to hand it in. This was because the week before i was advised upon my proposal and it didn’t make a whole lot of sense before. So insted of having a broad idea being ‘What s Good Art?’ I instead focussed on what i was talking about and improved on what I wrote to be more specific on my topic, eventually going from ‘What makes an Art Style good?’ to ‘Art Styles: A Commentary’ to finally ‘Evolution of a Drawing Style’ I think this better suited my aim.
Then on Wednesday, I conducted primary research on drawing styles through the ages which I gained from the National Gallery. It was quite insightful into what artists used their art for and the reason behind it. For instance some artists were hired to create paintings of public figures while others were tasked to create religious paintings and others detailed the daily lives of ordinary people. This would then help me to understand how i would want to portray different styles in my FMP. I was very glad I found art pieces that were not completed too becuase it meant i could understand the process behind the style.

As for Thrusday, it did not go as i had planned. The point of this day was to go to the UAL Peckham Road Library to find and research two books that would relate to my idea. Unfortunately, the first book I tired ti find was no where to be found and when i found the second book called ‘Toy Story: The Art and Making of an Animated Film’ it didn’t suit well with the theme i was trying to construct though my research. This set back my research a bit so decided to begin creating various mood boards for my FMP.
Drawing Style Mood Board
As for Friday, while having research with me I began to finish the narrowing down of my idea effectively making sure that my ‘Drawing style’ is visually showed to be my main idea I stuck with and will continue to stick too. Then after my studio hours I headed to the V&A, the Victoria and Albert Museum, to gain more knowledge and research on the many different drawing styles cultures around the world have which were sometimes specific to an era in their past. It really helped me gain information on other drawing styles not specific to Western European hyper realistic paintings.
Reminders to myself (and any other artsy people who follow me i guess)
-You don’t get better at drawing by avoiding drawing until you are better at drawing.
- You don’t have to make a new masterpiece every day it’s okay if all you drew is a doodle of a bug. You are now +1 bug doodle better at doodling bugs.
- Also it’s okay if the thing you drew didn’t turn out very good. Everything you draw makes you one step closer to being able to draw good. You are still +1 step better at drawing whatever you drew no take backsies.
- You are the only person who knows if your art didn’t turn out as good as you wanted it to. You are the only person who can see the things in your art that weren’t what you imagined in your head. No one else will know unless you tell them.
- Comparing yourself to other artists just isn’t fair. You get to see all of your art, the best stuff and the worst stuff. You usually only get to see the best stuff other artists make. You don’t get to see that half drawn badly propotioned face they drew at 2 am and immediately scrapped. So don’t compare your badly drawn 2 am face to their best work.
- Just keep making art. The only way you can really fail is if you give up.
