Why Dante and Vergil are 19 in DMC3? But needs to be considered they are even in DMC5?
A lot of people (myself included) don't need to know more if they need a validation, confirmation, clarification from Capcom themselves to say that "Dante and Vergil are 19" knowing they have given us clues already.
Why did I have to this post? Simple, curiosity to myself and to the minority that need more validation.
Before we discuss let's get over what we know so far, since I have discussed the Canonical Age of DMC.
We know that Dante and Vergil are 18 in DMC3 manga, since it was confirmed both the DMC3 manga itself and Before the Nightmare that it had been 10 years after Eva's death making not just the manga, but also the DMC1 novel happened in the same year.
Next up the banter between Dante and Vergil especially Mission 7
To me, this is probably the biggest hint of all. It doesn’t matter if it comes across as banter. There are clues hidden in the dialogue.
Saying “nearly” means almost a year has passed, so when Dante says in Mission 7 that “it’s been a whole year,” a full year has passed since then.
To make sense of this, the twins last met when they were 18 years old. For Dante to say in Mission 7 that a whole year has passed, the dialogue isn’t just casual banter. It also signals a birthday celebration.
Timeline:
Before Mission 7: nearly a year has passed since the events of the DMC3 manga.
At Mission 7: a full year has passed since the DMC3 manga.
Here’s why this matters:
If you take the banter literally, it suggests that Dante already knew, from childhood, that Vergil would help their parents to plan birthday celebrations. Sparda and Eva decided to celebrate their birthdays when Dante reached the same age Vergil was at that moment, since Vergil was born just hours earlier than Dante according to the 3142 artbook
This gives the dialogue a double meaning: it works as both banter and a birthday celebration reference. The reason we know why they were 18 in DMC3 manga is because of the difference in dialogue regards to how Dante said it in the dialogue.
The thing with DMC writers like Shin ya Goikeda and Bingo Morihashi is that they prefer subtle breadcrumb trails. They often say things like “a year,” “nearly,” “a decade”, "5 years" rather than giving exact ages. The only time Bingo directly stated an age was Nero’s in Deadly Fortune.
If you want proof? Here you go... This is a lot so, strap in. (Excluding 2000 years ago)
20 years ago… Although Sparda put an end to him in that battle, Mundus resurrected and killed Dante’s mother (Trinity of Fates)
Arkham: About 10 yrs ago… A woman was murdered on the outskirts of town. Her corpse had been altered beyond all recognition. The house was burned and the cause of her death was unclear, but there appeared to have been a struggle with something. Countless scale and feather like objects were littered about the surroundings (DMC3 Code 2 p. 32)
Dante PoV: Two years ago, Tony Redgrave drifted into town as a mercenary (DMC1 novel)
It started with killing Solemnis, which took two years. And kill him he did, though not as directly as with a sword or a gun. No, what he did was merely supply him with a small amount of poison over time (Deadly Fortune)
(Mission 1) 3Dante: "It's been nearly a year since we last met. Where does the time go?"
(Mission 7) Dante: “You sure know how to throw a party. No food, no drinks, and the only babe just left. Vergil: “My sincerest apology brother. I was eager to see you, I couldn’t concentrate on preparations for the bash” Dante: “Whatever, at any rate. It’s been a whole year since we last met”
Trish: "You, the man who lost a mother and a brother to evil 20 years ago" (Devil May Cry 1)
"Hearing Patty, Dante frowned a little. He had known her for 10 years" (Before the Nightmare Chapter 10)
Nero: When was the last time I’d been to the castle? I couldn’t remember the specific occasion. Maybe when I went with Kyrie and the kids from the orphanage? I wasn’t a knight yet back then, so at least over three years ago. Though in theory it’s a historical and religious place, there’s no need to ever come here for business, and the damp, stuffy air of the building made me uncomfortable (Deadly Fortune Ch 5 p. 135)
Sanctus to Nero: I see… but I remember something. A few years ago, that was the year I became Pope. And in that same year, in Fortuna… That boy must have been sixteen, perhaps seventeen. Seventeen… that was the year I killed a man." | 「そうか……だがわしには覚えがある。――数年前と言えば、わしが教皇となった年だ……そしてその年、フォルトゥナの地で……」 「彼様の年齢は……十六、十七といったところだろう……」 「――十七、わしは一人の男を眠らせた。この――」 (Deadly Fortune JP p. 250)
""5 years ago...” A mysterious white giant attacked the fortress town of Fortuna" (Before the Nightmare Prologue)
But in her opinion, she’d already paid up for that when she repaired the Red Queen at least twice just this year. (Before the Nightmare Chapter 8)
It wasn’t until a decade after Eva’s murder that he began to suspect a man called Tony Redgrave to be the second son of Sparda. (Before the Nightmare Chapter 13)
Another one, let's take a look on how we know Dante and even Vergil are 19 thru Nero's age
We know that Nero was 16-17 in DMC4 via Deadly Fortune, 21-22 in Before the Nightmare Chapter 1 to Interlude, and 22-23 in Before the Nightmare Chapter 8 to Epilogue and DMC5.
Thru here, we have to know the calendar that was shown both in-game and in the artbook. It lands on May 2016.
Why 2016? Why not 2011 or 2005?
The sticky notes visible in-game using a free camera mod and in the artbook feature the Peanut Butter Jelly Time and Doge memes. These were popular internet memes from the early 2000s to 2010s. Peanut Butter Jelly Time appeared in 2002, while Doge emerged in 2013. Therefore, the calendar cannot represent 2005 or 2011, since the Doge meme didn’t exist yet.
By subtracting, 2016 to Nero's age either using 22 or 23... You will get 18 and 19. The same age when Dante and Vergil are both 18 (DMC3 manga) and 19 (DMC3). It doesn't matter on what age you believe Nero is canonically. The calculation is proof of it.
Here's another one, but it's minor. It's the tally argument between Dante and Vergil
Dante: Score one for Dante! I'm up one. Vergil: Where did you learn to count!? We're even!
Technically, true for Dante's part if you ignore DMC3 manga. However, Bingo is hinting to include DMC3 manga as Vergil is the correct one
Now here's the kicker... A lot of folks wanted Capcom to outright confirm it already instead of this whole well... headache inducing calculation of connecting the dots. The thing is they did not since, Hiroyuki Kobayashi said before that "Dante was a teenager", and Itsuno said before that "Nero is the same age as Dante in DMC3" (He said during 3142 before the retcon of 31245)
People have done this also... Sadly, you have to search the internet extensively especially the exclusive Japanese articles and interviews related to Devil May Cry.
The Law of Equivalent Exchange in DMC
"Alchemy: the science of understanding, deconstructing, and reconstructing matter. However, it is not an all-powerful art. It is impossible to create something out of nothing.
If one wishes to obtain something, something of equal value must be given.
This is the Law of Equivalent Exchange, the basis of all alchemy.
In accordance with this law, there is a taboo among alchemists: human transmutation is strictly forbidden.
For what could equal the value of a human soul…?" - Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood
In Devil May Cry, the Law of Equivalent Exchange happens to Vergil, Arkham, Sanctus, and Arius
Vergil - sacrifices identity, humanity emotionally and literally due to being Urizen
Arkham - sacrifice his humanity, his wife, for the sake of godhood
Sanctus - sacrifices the idea of humanity
Arius - sacrifices the ethical side of humanity
The difference to Sparda is that he sacrifices his power for stability.
The truth about demonic ascension is akin to a taboo it sacrifices the user's humanity. It corrupts the user who wanted more power in exchange for humanity
Every villain from DMC3 and beyond became monstrous, and unstable because without balance... Chaos will destroy identity
Why 22 years old Nero make sense?
By saying "Nero is 18 and 19 in DMC4" doesn't make sense in the current timeline. If Nero was born in 1996 or 1997. Vergil was already defeated, corrupted, tortured by Mundus and became Nelo Angelo after DMC3 which it happened in 1994. How can he have sex to Lady in Red if he is already Nelo Angelo?
In reality, that was already retconned just by retconning the timeline from 3142 to 31245
Here is another interview for Matt Walker in feed4gamers
For the 16 and 17 part.. It was stated in the original Japanese Deadly Fortune novel that Nero is 16 or 17, since that is the time where Sanctus met a man who is visiting the island. Bingo never wrote 18 十八 (jū hachi) nor 19 十九 (jū kyū)
When it comes to Japanese numbers, they are just adding it for example 16 is 十六 (jū roku). Ju is ten and roku is six. Same thing with 17 which is 十七 (jū nana).
The thing is as I stated in my "DMC Canon Ages and Years". Sanctus poisoned Solemnis for 2 years, before he became a pope when Vergil was 17 years. From 1990 to 1991, Sanctus is poisoning Pope Solemnis before he became the pope in 1993.
If you parallel it with Dante it make sense. You see in DMC1 novel, it is stated that he drifted 2 years while Before the Nightmare stated Mundus found Dante 10 years after Eva's death. This gives us the timeframe/timeline that Dante was 18 in the novel and he was 16 when he drifted and started doing mercenary work. He left the town at 18 after what happened
This is the same case with Vergil since he is 16 at that time when he visited Fortuna, met Sanctus at 17, and left Fortuna at 18 leaving Lady in Red not knowing she was pregnant and at some point came back after seeing her died in front of him like Eva. If you will believe on what the Devil Moon lyrics said
I did the calculation just this week btw or last week (as of writing, Sept 5 2024) and the answer lies on the start and end of the rivalry between Dante and Vergil. Itsuno said before that DMC5 is the end of the Sons of Sparda arc
Both numbers 16 and 17 are potential, since you can say that the rivalry started at DMC3 game or DMC3 manga. Happened both in 1993 for the manga and 1994 in the game. Since the manga is canon. Counting Nero's age make sense to start during DMC3 manga and why 22 years old might be the current age canon age of Nero in DMC5, while he was 16 in DMC4
Edit: I think it's more on the consistency from Capcom or well the writers of DMC especially Bingo Morihashi than, pushing the narrative that Nero was 18-19. When it has already debunked, during the marketing for DMC5 since late 2018-early 2019 to changed the timeline and make the Deadly Fortune novel canon
The whole Nero was 18-19 (Itsuno) vs Nero was 16-17 (Bingo) was a debate argument between DMC lore fans during the 3142 timeline. Since at that time, people questioned how canon Deadly Fortune novel is.
It's the whole "who do you think you should believe mentality... The game director or the writer?"

Devil Moon explanation (again)
I did this before without the chorus, but now Full song.
(As of June 9, 2025… I forgot to put this while, doing this analysis oopsie. Here is the link in Youtube)
Chorus:
Reclaim my throne The dark angel inside me Honor and victory A warrior with pride Humanity will see I have no place for weakness Sparda will live in me The answers, I will seek
Sparda will live in me The answers, I will seek talks about Vergil seeking answers. I think its what he thinks after the fire accident during First Redgrave Incident, when he was 8 years old
Verse 1:
Lost in a dream Demons in my mind Calling for me to release this burden Leave no stone unturned My birthright will be mine “Calling for me to release this burden“ Talks about his burden of responsibility being the elder son of Sparda and Eva, and him thinking that his family is already dead and he is alone
According to Britannica, "To leave no stone unturned" is an idiom that means to do everything possible to find something or to solve a problem.
In this case, Vergil wants to find something to solve his problem. This correlates to him researching regards to Sparda and learning who Mundus is. Another can be him practicing Iaido
"My birthright will be mine" Birthright or Inheritance means the right or possession to give something to a person according to their position in the family. To which case, Vergil inheriting the Yamato
It can also be a reference for this and him wanting to get rid both of his trauma and feeling of powerless
Verse 2:
Fight to be free My battle rages onward I’ll be standing at the end of it all
Mundus found Vergil first, because he didn’t change his name oppose to Dante.
"Fight to be free" or fighting for his freedom against the demons, his nightmare
"My battle rages onward", is his battle alone revenge to the one who did this to his family
"I'll be standing at the end of it all" can be him envisioning that he wanted to win his battle against demons
Struggling to find The only love I needed I’ll continue on
At this point, he thinks that Eva didn’t love and care him. He is finding a replacement.. Someone who will love him. Think of it as him coping mechanism to his childhood trauma. He is struggling, until he met Lady in Red or Nero’s mother in Fortuna at 16 or 17.
Chorus:
Reclaim my throne, alone The dark angel inside me Honor and victory A warrior with pride Humanity will see I have no place for weakness Sparda will live in me The answers, I will seek Every day
Sparda will live in me The answers, I will seek Every day - His frantic research regarding Sparda according to Dante in Deadly Fortune
Verse 3:
Secrets untold In my mind reliving moments Tormenting me, unending
Untold can be him not saying to everyone including LiR about his trauma or only saying it to LiR. But I prefer the 2nd one due to how important Vergil is to her. There are too many reference not just from this pachinko song that describes that Vergil really did love her. For him, he trust her not to tell his secrets to anyone. His secrets are his trauma that he is still reliving like a nightmare. Just like Dante in DMC1 novel and DMC3 manga
During his research, he knows who Mundus is. I theorize that Sparda didn’t tell to his children who he really is. It’s more of a secret, and I think Vergil realizes that majority of his stories are true and not fantasy. It to correlates to the line “Sparda will live in me The answers, I will seek Every day” in the 2nd chorus. We can also say that the answers he needed to get his revenge against the deaths of his mother, Dante, and Sparda is in Temen-ni-Gru. But..
I've seen angels fall With strength, I will go on
Tragedy struck again.. His life became dark again so.. imagine his life from light > dark > light > dark. Light meaning peace, happiness and dark well.. tragedy, disaster, trauma. The lyrics saying “angels” is not literally angels, but a compliment how he sees Eva and Lady in Red as angels. Them being the kind, and caring people for him. Even though he despise his mother, he still loves his mother. So he sees in separate age timeline both of them died in front of him.
With strength, I will go on He left Fortuna at this point around 18, before he met Arkham.
Verse 4:
Born into this world My innocence was stolen Screaming, helpless Yelling into the void Nor will the emptiness That I’ve forsaken Crucify my soul
The root cause of his trauma is still what happened during the 1st Redgrave Incident. Imagine somewhere around 18 yrs old you see the love of your life died in front of you and you’re remembering what happened to your childhood.
Chorus:
Here on my throne, alone The dark angel revived me Power and majesty Eternal fight for life
"Eternal fight for life" can be also talk about Vergil (19 y.old) challenging Mundus in DMC3, until he was defeated
Humanity will see I make no room for sadness
Sparda will live in me Corruption, I will seek Until my grave
Yeah.. you get the idea regarding the Corruption, I will seek. Until my grave
Finale:
Reclaim my throne, alone The dark angel inside me Honor and victory A champion with pride Dante: "A man with guts and honor. I like that, but it's a shame you serve Mundus!" (DMC1).
Vergil became Nelo Angelo after his defeat, when he was still 19. 9 years of grueling agony and torture at the hands of Mundus before he was freed by Dante, since both of the twins are already 28 years old
Humanity will be The only place for weakness Father will live in me The answers will be mine Until my grave
The answers will be mine It can be Force Edge or anything regarding Sparda's sword that's it, then why? well.. let's rewind what Sparda did for Locking the Temen-ni-Gru after the war 2000 years ago.
Vergil needs the Perfect Amulet, and Force Edge to combine it again to become Devil Sword Sparda. The only reason why Vergil wanted to go to hell alone is a revenge against Mundus, because Mundus himself was already anticipated it
This part is a theory: In the original post, I also pointed this out regarding the difference of I have no place for weakness, and The only place for weakness. There are 4 chorus overall in Devil Moon. First 3 uses the I have no place for weakness, and the last part uses The only place for weakness
I have no place for weakness - talks about the after effects of his mother died in front of him abandoning his humanity. How he is dealing with his childhood trauma. We know Vergil saw Eva's corpse in front of him, while the manor is burning. Him rejecting his humanity and all that, and how he still have a grudge/hate against his mother
The only place for weakness - Vergil admitting it after seeing Lady in Red died in front of him. Humanity is his weakness, therefore in order to become stronger, he needed power.
Why he needed power?
One fan theory is like a blanket for protection.
Another is mine because of this song....
A revenge against Mundus, if Vergil won or just ignored Dante and he already combined it. He has a chance of defeating Mundus, but because of his wounds and exhaustion after his last battle against Dante due to rivalry he was defeated or he is doing this as the elder sibling. The elder sibling who protects his younger sibling, Dante is his only Sparda family member left (well... there is Nero who is still a baby, but they don't know he exist and alive)
"who do you self insert as when you read?"
This is me when I read:
fan artists and fanfic writers when it's time to make some diabolical angst
Readers when the diabolical angst has finished cooking

Might be a weird question but what’s people’s opinions on the DMC lore? I feel like there’s some extra steps to get to it other than just playing the games, I wonder how y’all feel about that? How relevant is it to your enjoyment?
For me, it took almost a year or so to compile everything like not just the novels, but also books or any other material that is considered canon and make sense in the current timeline
To me, the lore is akin to like a spaghetti code. It just works and if you want to fix it to make sense. I don't how to explain better but that's DMC lore for me. Its everywhere
Currently, I don't talk too much about DMC lore. Since majority is just waiting for them, I mean.. Capcom to drop a canon lore media and game.
How I interpret and understand is very deep into using every type of reading analysis and comprehension. Thanks to the BLEACH fandom, who are analyzing BLEACH lore to this day.
I don't mind if there's a difference to one translation to another (besides the canon age of Nero in Deadly Fortune that now... New fans think he is 17-18 or 18-19 rather than 16-17, which was stated in the original Japanese version). It's easy to spot the difference between two versions and what is easy to understand
When I see people asked, why translations or versions are different, especially in DMC5.
Reuben, Dan, JYB, and Brian have answered this in previous panels around 2019. They were given the 1st version of the English script yet, there are things in that specific script they don't understand. Them revising their scripts became a group effort between the English VAs and the devs.
There's trust between them
Anyways, the Lady in Red theory has change here and there from what I knew before and then what I learned after. Exploring the latter is going out basically research until, I stumble in youtube the CR: Devil May Cry 4 - Devil Moon
I really don't think she left Nero in the orphanage but, she died protecting his son. A knight of the Order found Nero and left him to the nun of the orphanage. Knowing that the Order has a history of lying if someone died to demons. They did this to protect the faith and belief of every Fortuna people who believe Sparda will save them against demons.
Vergil found her dead similar to how Eva died... Her face got distorded by demons. Not knowing he has a son
Not to mention how willing Mundus is to order his minions on killing any connection to the Sparda Family and well... trauma the twins. Mundus is still a threat from their childhood until DMC1 Like his minions killed their mom, Gilver killed countless of people including Nell and Grue that are connected Dante in DMC1 novel
And he is still a threat that looms in the background and everyone thinks he is already dead. But nope, still alive.. Dante didn't kill him just trapped him in-between worlds after DMC1
What do you expect when regards Lady in Red? Of course, Mundus did something to traumatize Vergil more that was never revealed unless, they release a new game or novel
I just hope said novel is release and has good translation. I don't need a 100% one to one perfect translation from Japanese to English. I just need to understand
Concept of DMC
I want to gather these thoughts as the concept alone is interesting to me, when regards to canon. It was Hideaki Itsuno who said that the concept of Heaven doesn't exist.
Then I thought "Why is it?"
One thing that struck me is them talking about how normal it is due to familiarity because of anime, and manga. How anime and manga goes with the same concept on focusing only Human World and Demon World.
From here, its better to look outward outside DMC itself.
I think the best example (for me at least) is Yu Yu Hakusho despite, there is a Spirit World concept in it. It focus more on investigating Humans or Demons who wants to conquer these 3 worlds.
For the devs, it's Devilman despite, some DMC fans who watched Devilman criticized what Itsuno said in here, since there is God and angels.
I think the main point of what Itsuno is saying is more on how some Japanese stories focused more on the concept of Human vs Demon World than, the Spirit or Heaven World. Since they sometimes put God in the alignment of Evil, than Good. You have this some kind of "6th sense" that you already know they will put the war against the Heaven World at the end.
There are also a lot if you think about it... I think it’s more a mix of Shintoism, Japanese folklore, and alchemy. In the game’s lore, it plays out as Light (Human World) vs. Dark (Demon World). Order vs Chaos
In Shinto mythology, Amaterasu (the sun goddess) embodies light, life, and purity. Her light banishes darkness and restores balance to the world.
In Japanese folklore, light vs. darkness is a common theme. Sunlight, lanterns, and even sacred fire are seen as forces that repel spirits, yokai, and malevolent beings.
From an alchemy perspective, it’s about order vs. chaos. Chaos represents raw, unformed potential the Prima Materia. Order represents completion, harmony, and enlightenment, often symbolized by the Philosopher’s Stone or cosmic balance. Chaos is necessary for transformation to begin, but Order is the perfected state the ultimate goal.
Take for example... Fatal Frame or Project Zero. Yes, it’s a horror supernatural game, but it uses real Japanese spiritual concepts.
First, there’s the idea of Demon Gates or Kimon (鬼門). The northeast direction believed to be unlucky, where demons could enter.
Then there’s the Gate of the Underworld, the boundary between the living and the dead. This connects to the myth of Izanagi and Izanami, where Izanagi travels to the underworld to bring back his wife.
Another key element is the priestess or shrine maiden (miko), which is very Shinto. People often forget that Lady’s ancestor was described as a legendary priestess.
Purification is an important part of both Shintoism and Buddhism staying clean inside and out. In the Izanagi and Izanami myth, Izanagi felt tainted after visiting Yomi (the underworld) and purified himself by bathing in a river at Awagihara.
In Buddhism, purification also means complete detachment. Letting go of things that cause suffering, whether they are material possessions, relationships, or even thoughts and emotions. In Shintoism, detachment exists too, but the focus is on spiritual cleanliness or purity and keeping balance with others and nature, while avoiding pollution (kegare)
The similarity:
Buddhism — Let go so you don’t suffer.
Shintoism — Let go so your spirit stays pure, balance and stay in harmony.
It’s possible that Lady’s ancestor is a legendary powerful shrine maiden who purified herself and was used as a sacrifice by Sparda to keep the Hell Gate sealed, alongside Sparda’s blood and the separated perfect amulet.
"Otamer, you said she purified herself. How?"
Although there’s no concrete evidence in the lore itself, we can back it up with Shinto concepts and a very specific battle in DMC3.
Her powers could draw from one or both of the following:
Shinto misogi purification rituals - using water to cleanse spiritual impurity and strengthen one’s connection to the divine. Since the practice of harae (purification) involves using either water, salt, and fire.
The symbolic purity of light (moonlight) - Often used in modern stories as a symbol of cleansing or protection, even if it’s not a traditional Shinto belief.
The light aspect connects directly to gameplay in the Dante vs. Doppelganger fight, where the only way to damage the Doppelganger is by striking the plates on the arena’s edge to release light. Without that light, he’s completely invulnerable.
Edit (May 10, 2026): Since I mentioned light, we have to discuss Amaterasu's myth. Amaterasu Omikami, the supreme diety of Shinto mythology itself. The Sun Goddess. In Kamiya's Okami game, there is a reason why the Celestial Brush gods call her first before introducing themselves "Ah Amaterasu... Origin of all that is good, and mother to us all"
There are too many mythologies regading Amaterasu, but the famous one is regarding the cave In this myth, it talks about when she hide in the Amano Iwato or Heavenly Rock Cave and the world was plunged into darkness without light since, she grieved and outraged for what her brother Susanoo did
The 8 million gods or kami planned to gathered by throwing a party outside. Ame no Uzume no Mikoto or simply Ame no Uzume, the goddess of humor, dancing, happiness, dawn, mirth, meditation, revelry and arts performed a dance. Amaterasu got curious of what is happening outside of the cave and peeked out.
The Yata no Kagami, a sacred bronze mirror that the gods have crafted and hung before the cave. She was transfix by her own reflection. Ame no Tajikarao waited at the cave's door to forced or pull out Amaterasu from the cave and the world was bathed into light again
Thus, in some Japanese fiction storytelling. Light is another form of purification as a spiritual symbolism besides water because of Amaterasu's myth.

i heard that pluto a demon from 20,000 years ago split the world into demon world and human world. and then before 2000 yrs ago sparda rose to rebellion against mundas (who unified the split) and split it and acted as a guardian of human world. am i correct or am i wrong?
A bit, the rebellion is after 20 000 years ago according to the timeline that I compiled
Mundus' plan is not unification but rather occupying via a war. He wants total authority and control of the Human World while, still handling the Demon World. Sparda realized during the war that he himself is against the idea of occupying and invading the Human World
Sparda split the Human and Demon World not like what Pluto did, but rather sealing all gates to the Underworld. Think of it as a door so you can enter and exit.
Sparda became the hero like any hero in each of our country's history books when regards to occupation and invasion during the war. He became a hero for the Human World
Here’s the picture version of the last post in case you didn’t want to see the cringe video quality.
Ichigo channeling his inner Nero.
Twinnies
For the next game I just need Vergil to be old man Zangetsu to Ichigo's Nero, you get me?
I need to see that same calm and strict but caring mentor to a aggressive strong and resolving protagonist.
What is Dante and Vergil dynamic like?
One thing people don't notice especially when talking about the lore is the parallel between Dante and Vergil once you understand their perspective in the story or POV. Since we're talking the canon story
Dante starts as a child always in hiding and running against demons, who got temporary amnesia due to childhood trauma, reclaiming his name and who he was, his character development regards to his motive on protecting humanity to thinking he's alone again after "killing" Vergil during DMC1, until he met Nero that he got protective. He doesn't think he's alone because, he knows Nero is his family, but doesn't ignore the fact he's still blaming himself regards to Vergil. That by the end of DMC5, he moved on from his traumatic trauma regards to the endless cycle of blaming himself that he killed Vergil
Vergil on the other hand, is way more subtle and hidden. That people will not notice unless you dig deep into the rabbit hole. The story doesn't shove it in like Dante's Vergil starts on this idea of
"As the eldest, I have no family. What shall I do?"
Why he has the Yamato in the first place? Because he is the eldest sibling. Sparda trusted him. Big responsibility already as a child.
Why he needs power, besides survival? To protect the people that he cherished the most. Preventing the same death regards to Eva. People will not think nor believe it at first, until you heard Devil Moon from the pachinko. The plan of his perspective story was in motion before they retconned DMC3 manga regarding his backstory. Yet, he failed as Nero's mom died also by demons. This reiterate again by the subtle hints from Deadly Fortune, Before the Nightmare, Visions of V, DMC5. Nero's Devil Trigger and Vergil's Bury the Light on how Vergil cherish Nero as a father without making it too cheesy. He sets his plan for the future as a subtle hint since DMC3 manga that he himself plan to go alone and kill Mundus After DMC1, it focus heavily on the connection between father and son without them meeting each other personally until, Nero met V. The two met each other but, only during Nero's dreams. That by the end of DMC5, Vergil is happy not because he is with Dante, but more on thinking about Nero
I have questions how old are all the characters in dmc 5
Good question
It really depends on the question... "At what age regards to Nero during Devil May Cry 4, do you believe? 16 or 17?"
If 16, he was born during DMC3 manga If 17, during DMC3 Honestly, I always believe he was 16 at that time
To me... Dante and Vergil are 41 years old Nero is 22 years old Kyrie is 23 years old Nico is 20 years old (2 years difference to Nero) Lady is 39 (based on a theory regards to Lady's age since her character design in DMC3 depicts as a high school student, due to her clothes. It was intentional by the character designer at Capcom to market it to the Japanese fans according to the 3142 Artbook)
I really want to get into devil may cry lore like I watched the game and read the manga, but is there more and what order should I do it?
Sorry for the late reply.
The order will always be the long version of the 31245 timeline. That includes the canon novels, manga, Madhouse anime and it's drama CD DMC1 novel, DMC 3 manga, DMC3, DMC1, Madhouse DMC anime and drama CD, DMC2 novel, DMC2, DMC4 and Deadly Fortune novel, Before the Nightmare novel, DMC5 and Visions of V manga
